How much does the 2020 Hyundai Santa Fe cost?

Prices have softened 10.47% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.

There are 2,229 listings available, which suggests solid inventory for shoppers comparing prices and trims.

Is the 2020 Hyundai Santa Fe a good car?

Yes — owners rate it 4.71/5, and the expert rating is 8.83/10. The model scores 10/10 across Cost effectiveness, Technology, and Safety.

Owners consistently praise its comfortable seating, great features, value for the price, safety features, and spaciousness. The Santa Fe also stands out for easy-to-use technology and a cabin that feels practical for everyday use.

The main trade-offs are the underpowered, noisy base engine and a design that may not suit every buyer. That said, the Santa Fe’s five-passenger layout and broad appeal make it a strong fit if you want a practical crossover without moving up to a larger three-row SUV.

With 38.8% of listings marked as good or great deals, there’s still meaningful room to shop selectively.

Is the 2020 Hyundai Santa Fe reliable?

Owners rate it 4.71/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

The owner feedback points to a dependable, trouble-free ownership experience for many buyers, with comfort and value reinforcing the sense that this is a vehicle people can count on. The expert evaluation also emphasizes the Santa Fe’s strong value equation and long warranty coverage, which supports confidence in long-term ownership.

Hyundai’s free maintenance for three years or 36,000 miles adds another ownership perk that can reduce early running costs.

For used buyers, the main long-term risk is making sure the vehicle has been maintained well, especially if you’re considering one with higher mileage or a harder life.

What should I look for when buying a used 2020 Hyundai Santa Fe?

At 74.9% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should start with a vehicle history report and then prioritize a careful inspection of body panels, paint consistency, tires, and suspension behavior. Because the Santa Fe’s value proposition depends heavily on condition, it’s worth focusing on signs of prior repair quality and how well the cabin and technology have held up.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: SE, SEL, and Limited are the trim levels, and the base SE misses blind-spot warning and rear cross-traffic warning. The Limited adds the most upscale equipment, while the SEL is the key step up if you want more safety tech without going all the way to the top.
• Powertrain: The standard 185-horsepower 2.4-liter four-cylinder is the one to skip if you can. The 2.0T versions add a turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder with 235 hp and 260 lb-ft of torque, and they’re the better choice if you want stronger passing power or live at altitude.
• Safety package: Every Santa Fe includes adaptive cruise control with stop-and-go capability, forward collision warning, automatic emergency braking, lane-departure warning, lane-keeping assistance, a driver monitoring system, and a rear-seat reminder system. SEL trim adds blind-spot warning, rear cross-traffic warning, and safe exit assist, while the SEL Convenience Package adds an ultrasonic occupant alert system tied to Blue Link.
• Infotainment: Every Santa Fe has Bluetooth, Apple CarPlay, and Android Auto. SEL trim adds SiriusXM and Blue Link connected services, while Limited trim upgrades to an 8-inch display, navigation, a surround-view camera, wireless smartphone charging, and a 12-speaker Infinity audio system.
• Fuel efficiency: The turbocharged front-wheel-drive model is rated at 23 mpg in combined driving, and the test vehicle returned 22.1 mpg.

Which 2020 Hyundai Santa Fe trim should I buy?

The 2020 Hyundai Santa Fe is offered in 3 trim levels: SE, SEL, and Limited.

Here's the short version:

• SE: This is the entry point, but it’s the trim most likely to leave you wanting more because blind-spot warning and rear cross-traffic warning are not included. It makes sense only if price is your top priority and you’re comfortable with the most basic setup.
• SEL: This is the best-value trim for most shoppers because it adds the key safety upgrades missing from SE, plus SiriusXM and Blue Link connected services. If you want the smartest balance of equipment and price, this is the one to target.
• Limited: This is the trim to choose if you want the most upscale Santa Fe experience, with the larger 8-inch display, navigation, surround-view camera, wireless charging, 12-speaker Infinity audio, and the Blind-Spot View Monitor. It’s the right pick if you want the most features and the most polished feel.

The SEL trim is the most balanced choice, while the Limited is the best fit if you want the fullest safety and tech package.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2020 Hyundai Santa Fe?

This is a moderate, selective-buyer market, so you can shop with some leverage if you stay disciplined.

• Deal availability: 38.8% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 2,229 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 10.47% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 74.9% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $16,645, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2020 Hyundai Santa Fe's resale value?

The current average of $16,645 sits slightly below last year's $18,591.

That decline suggests the Santa Fe has become more affordable for buyers, which can help keep demand healthy in the near term. For a future seller, the current pricing trend means you may need to be realistic if you plan to trade or sell soon, especially if the market continues to favor shoppers.

At the same time, the Santa Fe’s strong value reputation and broad appeal can help support resale interest. Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.71/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2020 Hyundai Santa Fe safe?

The 2020 Hyundai Santa Fe earns a five-star overall crash-test rating from NHTSA and a Top Safety Pick rating from IIHS.

It earns a 10/10 safety score from our experts.

Every Santa Fe comes with adaptive cruise control with stop-and-go capability, forward collision warning, automatic emergency braking, lane-departure warning, lane-keeping assistance, a driver monitoring system, and a rear-seat reminder system. SEL trim adds blind-spot warning, rear cross-traffic warning, and safe exit assist, while the SEL Convenience Package adds an ultrasonic occupant alert system tied to Blue Link.

One important caveat is that blind-spot warning and rear cross-traffic warning are not included on SE trim, so safety-minded shoppers should pay close attention to trim level.

Should I buy a 2020 Hyundai Santa Fe or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2020 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2020 if:

• 38.8% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 74.9% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 10.47% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.71/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• The 2020 stands out as the only Santa Fe in the lineup, giving you a five-passenger crossover with strong value and useful tech updates.

Consider the 2019 if:

• At $14,907, the 2019 costs less than the current year's $16,645 average.
• It offers a practical middle ground between compact and midsize SUVs.

Consider the 2021 if:

• At $19,559, the 2021 costs more than the current year's $16,645 average.
• It brings a substantial update with new styling, controls, displays, engines, technology, and safety systems.

The bottom line: The 2020 is the right choice if you want the strongest mix of value, safety, and tech in this price range. If you’re focused on saving money, the 2019 is the better budget play; if you want newer updates and are willing to pay more, the 2021 is the upgrade path.
