Used 2020 Hyundai Kona for Sale nearDallas, TX

How much does the 2020 Hyundai Kona cost?

Prices have softened 5.98% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.

There are 1,099 listings available, which gives you a solid pool of options to compare on price and condition.

Is the 2020 Hyundai Kona a good car?

Yes — the 2020 Hyundai Kona earns a 4.68/5 user rating and a 6.83/10 expert rating. The standout strength is Performance at 9/10.

Drivers consistently praise its fun driving experience, responsive handling, stylish design, and fuel efficiency. The overview also frames it as a small crossover that prioritizes style and driving enjoyment, with all-wheel drive and the higher seating position many crossover shoppers want.

The trade-offs are clear: the cabin is cramped, the interior disappoints, and value for the money is weak. That makes it a better fit if you care more about engaging road manners and distinctive looks than maximum space or bargain pricing.

Good and great deals account for 33.2% of listings, so you still have room to shop selectively.

Is the 2020 Hyundai Kona reliable?

Owners rate it 4.68/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

The user feedback points to a dependable-feeling ownership experience, with drivers highlighting the Kona as fun, efficient, and easy to live with over time. That kind of praise usually matters most when you want a used vehicle you can count on day to day.

The expert evaluation also emphasizes that Hyundai backs the Kona with a long warranty and three oil changes, which helps support confidence in ownership. For used buyers, the main long-term risk is less about outright durability and more about living with its tight cabin and modest cargo space.

What should I look for when buying a used 2020 Hyundai Kona?

At 72.1% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should start with a vehicle history report and then prioritize a careful inspection of body panels, paint consistency, and signs of prior repair. Because this model’s appeal depends heavily on how it drives and presents, condition matters a lot more than simply finding the lowest price.

Pay close attention to interior wear, since the cabin quality is already a known weak point. It’s also smart to confirm that the features you want are actually present on the specific trim you’re considering.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The SE has the basics, including a 7-inch touchscreen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, while the SEL adds proximity entry, auto up/down windows, vanity mirrors, heated front seats, heated mirrors, a leather-wrapped steering wheel, tinted rear windows, blind-spot monitoring, SiriusXM satellite radio, and HD radio. The SEL Plus adds wireless charging, an auto-dimming rearview mirror with garage door openers, an eight-way power driver’s seat with lumbar, an eight-speaker Infinity stereo, and Blue Link connectivity. The Limited and Ultimate add more upscale equipment, with the Ultimate bringing the sunroof, 8-inch navigation screen, auto high beams, and adaptive cruise control. The SEL is the best-value trim if you want the biggest jump in everyday convenience.
• Powertrain: The standard setup uses a naturally aspirated 2.0-liter inline-four with 147 hp and 132 lb-ft, paired with a 6-speed automatic. The turbocharged 1.6-liter inline-four makes 175 hp and 195 lb-ft and pairs with a 7-speed dual-clutch transmission. Front-wheel drive is standard, AWD is optional, and AWD models get an independent rear suspension.
• Safety package: Forward emergency braking, lane-keep assist, and a driver attention monitor come standard on every Kona. The Ultimate adds adaptive cruise control, and pedestrian detection is limited to that trim. The safety suite is strong, but some trims miss the more advanced driver-assistance content.
• Infotainment: The base model gets a 7-inch touchscreen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. The SEL Plus adds wireless charging and Blue Link connectivity, while the Ultimate upgrades to an 8-inch touchscreen with navigation.
• Fuel efficiency: The 2.0 AWD returns 26/30/28 mpg, while the 1.6T AWD is rated at 26/29/27 mpg. FWD versions can reach 30 mpg combined and up to 33 mpg highway.

Which 2020 Hyundai Kona trim should I buy?

The 2020 Hyundai Kona is offered in 6 trim levels: SE, SEL, SEL Plus, Limited, Ultimate, and Night Edition.

Here's the short version:

• SE: This is the entry point, and it gives you the core Kona experience with the 7-inch touchscreen and smartphone integration. It makes sense if you want the lowest price and can live without the extra convenience and safety features found higher up.
• SEL: This is the best-value trim because it adds the features most drivers will actually notice every day, including proximity entry, heated front seats, blind-spot monitoring, and a leather-wrapped steering wheel.
• SEL Plus: This is the right pick if you want a more premium-feeling daily driver, thanks to wireless charging, Blue Link connectivity, and the upgraded audio and power-seat setup.
• Limited: This trim is the gateway to the turbo engine and 7-speed dual-clutch transmission, so it’s the one to choose if you want stronger acceleration and a more energetic drive.
• Ultimate: This is the most fully equipped version, adding the sunroof, navigation, auto high beams, and adaptive cruise control. It suits you best if you want the most advanced convenience and safety content.
• Night Edition: This trim is for shoppers who want a more distinctive look, with blacked-out styling details and 18-inch wheels.

The safety package is strongest on higher trims, especially the Ultimate, which adds adaptive cruise control and pedestrian detection.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2020 Hyundai Kona?

This is a moderate, selective-buyer market, so you can shop carefully and still find worthwhile listings.

• Deal availability: 33.2% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 1,099 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 5.98% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 72.1% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $14,634, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2020 Hyundai Kona's resale value?

The current average of $15,189 sits slightly below last year's $16,155.

That decline suggests the Kona has softened in the used market, which can work in your favor if you’re buying now. For a future seller, it also means you should expect resale value to depend heavily on trim, condition, and feature content rather than just the badge.

Because the Kona has a relatively narrow price band and a meaningful share of listings are already discounted, well-kept examples should remain easier to move than rough ones. Higher-demand trims with stronger equipment and cleaner histories are likely to hold up better than base models with visible wear.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.68/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2020 Hyundai Kona safe?

The 2020 Kona earns five-star ratings overall from NHTSA, with maximum ratings for driver and passenger in the frontal test and for driver and rear passenger in the side test, and it earns a four-star rating in the rollover risk test. It also earns a 2020 Top Safety Pick from IIHS.

It earns an 8/10 safety score from our experts.

Forward emergency braking, lane-keep assist, and a driver attention monitor come standard on every Kona. The Ultimate trim adds adaptive cruise control, and pedestrian detection is limited to that trim.

One caveat is that the Kona does not include front knee airbags or rear side airbags, and pedestrian detection performs less strongly than some rivals.

Should I buy a 2020 Hyundai Kona or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2020 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2020 if:

• 33.2% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 72.1% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 5.98% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.68/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• The 2020 brings a new trim level and more standard driver assists.

Consider the 2021 if:

• At $15,485, the 2021 costs more than the current year's $15,189 average.
• It adds a Night Edition with blacked-out styling.

The bottom line: If you want the better value play, the 2020 is the smarter buy because prices have eased and the feature set is still strong. If you’re willing to pay more for a slightly fresher lineup and a special-edition appearance package, the 2021 is the cleaner alternative.
