The 2020 Raptor gets almost everything right — performance, comfort, design, and capability. It’s not just a truck; it’s an experience. Every time I drive it, it reminds me why this model has such a loyal following. ⸻ What I Think of Its Features The twin-turbo 3.5 L EcoBoost engine delivers incredible power and torque, and the 10-speed transmission keeps it smooth whether you’re cruising the highway or tearing up dirt roads. The suspension is what truly sets it apart — it absorbs rough terrain like it’s nothing, but somehow still rides comfortably on pavement. Inside, it’s spacious, refined, and well-equipped. The technology and controls are intuitive, and even though it’s built for off-road performance, it doesn’t sacrifice daily comfort. It feels just as confident on a long trip as it does on a back trail. ⸻ Is It a Good Value? Yes — for the right driver. You’re paying for both capability and character. If you’ll actually use what it was built for — adventure, off-road travel, or simply having the most capable full-size truck on the road — then it’s worth every dollar. Of course, if you’re buying it just for city commuting, the value depends on how much you want the performance and presence. Fuel economy and tire wear are part of the trade-off, but the Raptor delivers something few trucks can: it makes driving fun again. ⸻ What It’s Missing No vehicle is perfect. The Raptor’s towing capacity isn’t as high as some other F-150 models, and it’s definitely a large truck to maneuver in tight parking lots. It also drinks more fuel than your average pickup, and parts like the suspension or tires cost more to replace. But for me, those drawbacks are minor compared to what it offers in power, confidence, and enjoyment. ⸻ What I’d Compare It To If you want to compare, the Ram 1500 TRX is the closest rival — louder, heavier, and a bit wilder. The Raptor, though, strikes a better balance between power and everyday drivability. I’d also compare it to the Chevy Silverado Trail Boss or GMC AT4 for someone who wants off-road ability without going full performance truck. ⸻ Overall The 2020 Raptor is one of those rare trucks that feels alive. It’s strong, capable, and surprisingly refined. Whether you’re driving across the country or exploring back roads, it’s a truck that makes you want to keep going. That’s why I gave it a perfect 5-star rating.

The picture is deceiving. It’s actually missing driver side running board. And the inside was very dirty. Back head rest was also missing.

Prices have softened 5.08% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.
There are 9,626 listings available, which gives you a solid amount of inventory to compare.
If you find a listing below $28,537.77, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
Is the 2020 Ford F-150 a good car?
Yes — the 2020 Ford F-150 earns a 4.72/5 user rating and an 8.33/10 expert rating. The model scores 9/10 across Performance and Form and function.
Owners consistently praise its power, smooth ride, and interior comfort, and many specifically call out the 3.5L EcoBoost and 5.0L V8 engines. The truck also gets credit for being durable and practical, with a cabin that feels built to handle hard use.
The main trade-offs are that some drivers want more tech convenience and a more upscale cabin. That lines up with the F-150’s role as a do-everything truck: it works well as a commuter, family hauler, road-trip vehicle, and work truck, but it does not fully match the plushest rivals on interior feel.
With 30.0% of listings marked as good or great deals, you have room to shop selectively.
Is the 2020 Ford F-150 reliable?
Owners rate it 4.72/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.
The owner feedback points to a truck that feels dependable, durable, and easy to count on over time. Reviewers also emphasize its strong powertrain choices and comfortable day-to-day behavior, which usually matters when you want a used truck that can handle regular ownership without drama.
The expert evaluation also reinforces that impression by describing the F-150 as refined on the road and capable under load. Ford’s maintenance perk language is not present here, so your best protection is a careful pre-purchase inspection and a clean service history.
For used buyers, the biggest long-term ownership risk is usually condition variation, especially on trucks that may have been worked hard.
What should I look for when buying a used 2020 Ford F-150?
Accident-free inventory is solid at 79.2% — always verify the vehicle history report.
You should still check the report carefully, because a strong accident-free share does not guarantee the individual truck you are considering has a clean past. Prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, pay close attention to wear on the cabin and controls, and make sure the truck’s condition matches how it was used.
Key things to evaluate:
- Trim level: The XL is the work-truck baseline, with steel wheels, manual locks, and a basic cabin, while the XLT adds more convenience and tech. Higher trims bring more comfort, but the lower trims are the ones most likely to feel sparse.
- Powertrain: You get a 3.3-liter V6, a 2.7-liter EcoBoost V6, a 5.0-liter V8, a 3.5-liter EcoBoost V6, and a 3.0-liter turbodiesel V6. The base V6 is fine for daily driving, while the turbocharged engines and V8 are better suited to towing and hauling.
- Safety package: Ford Co-Pilot360 includes automatic high beams, blind-spot warning with rear cross-traffic alert, lane-departure warning, automatic emergency braking, and adaptive cruise control. Some of these features are not standard on every trim.
- Infotainment: The XL starts with a basic stereo, while the XLT brings an 8-inch touchscreen with SYNC 3, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and a pair of smart-charging USB ports. FordPass with a 4G WiFi modem is also available on XLT and above.
- Fuel efficiency: The turbodiesel with rear-wheel drive returns 21 mpg city, 29 highway, 24 combined. The 2.7-liter EcoBoost V6 with rear-wheel drive returns 20 mpg city, 26 highway, 22 combined, while the V8 returns 17 mpg city, 23 highway, 19 combined.
Which 2020 Ford F-150 trim should I buy?
The 2020 Ford F-150 is offered in 7 trim levels: XL, XLT, Lariat, King Ranch, Platinum, Raptor, and Limited.
Here's the short version:
- Base trim: The XL is the bare-bones choice, so you give up much of the comfort and convenience equipment found higher up the range. It is the trim to choose only if you want the lowest entry point and can live with a sparse cabin.
- Sweet-spot trim: The XLT is the best value for most shoppers because it adds SYNC 3, an 8-inch touchscreen, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and more everyday convenience without jumping too far in price.
- Premium/top trim: The Lariat is the most balanced upscale pick, adding leather-trimmed seats, heated and cooled front seats, dual-zone climate control, and a more polished feel without going all the way to luxury-truck pricing.
- Off-road trim: The Raptor is the specialized choice, but its off-road hardware and setup make it less practical for typical daily driving.
Ford Co-Pilot360 is the safety package to look for if you want the broadest driver-assistance coverage.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2020 Ford F-150?

If you find a listing below $28,537.77, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2020 Ford F-150's resale value?
The current average of $29,293 sits slightly below last year's $30,862.
That price movement suggests the market has eased, which can help you buy more confidently now but may also temper near-term resale upside. If you plan to sell later, the current softness means your return will depend heavily on mileage, condition, trim, and equipment.
The good news is that this truck still has broad appeal because it covers work, family, and towing duties well. Strong demand for well-kept examples should help support value over time, especially for trucks with desirable engines and cleaner histories.
Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.72/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Is the 2020 Ford F-150 safe?
It earns five-star ratings for the SuperCrew from NHTSA, while the SuperCab and regular cab earn four-star ratings overall. The SuperCrew also received top marks from IIHS in its various crash tests.
It earns a 8/10 safety score from our experts.
Ford Co-Pilot360 brings automatic high beams, blind-spot warning with rear cross-traffic alert, lane-departure warning, automatic emergency braking, and adaptive cruise control. Standard safety equipment also includes front- and side-impact airbags, curve control, tire-pressure monitoring, AdvanceTrac with Roll Stability Control, rain-sensing headlights, an anti-theft system, and the SOS post-crash alert system.
One caveat is that advanced driver-assistance features are not standard across the lineup, so you should confirm exactly which systems are fitted on the truck you are considering.
Should I buy a 2020 Ford F-150 or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2020 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2020 if:
- 30.0% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Accident-free inventory is solid at 79.2% — always verify the vehicle history report.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 5.08% compared with last year.
- Owners rate it 4.72/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
- The 2020 delivers a broad engine lineup, strong towing ability, and a comfortable, modern cabin.
Consider the 2019 if:
- At $26,858, the 2019 costs less than the current year's $29,293 average.
- It offers a strong reputation for reliability and a versatile, well-equipped cabin.
Consider the 2021 if:
- At $33,895, the 2021 costs more than the current year's $29,293 average.
- It brings a major redesign, a more refined cabin, and the available PowerBoost hybrid powertrain.
The bottom line: If you want the best balance of price, capability, and available inventory, the 2020 is the primary path to consider. If your budget is tighter, the 2019 can save you money while still delivering the core F-150 strengths. If you want the newer redesign and can spend more, the 2021 is the upgrade path to watch.
