Summary
With 196 currently listed for sale and an average price of $19,641, 21.9% of 2020 Chevrolet Colorado listings on CarGurus are rated as good or great deals.
Favorably reviewed: Owners rated the 2020 Chevrolet Colorado 4.67 / 5 stars.

Why it stands out
The 2020 Chevrolet Colorado stands out as a midsize pickup that blends real utility with a broad range of trims and powertrains. By this model year, the Work Truck trim had become the entry-level offering, and it came with a four-way power-adjustable driver seat, a 7-inch color touchscreen, front, side, and side curtain airbags, electronic stability control and traction control, manual folding mirrors, a locking tailgate, the CornerStep rear bumper, black moldings, and carpet. The LT added a body-color rear bumper, mirror caps and door handles, 17-inch alloy wheels, an 8-inch touchscreen, remote keyless entry, and the E.Z. Lift & Lower tailgate. That mix makes the Colorado appealing to buyers who want a truck that can be configured as a basic workhorse or a more comfortable daily driver.
It also offers a strong spread of capability-focused trims. The Z71 added an off-road suspension package, automatic locking rear differential, skid plates, unique wheels with all-terrain tires, automatic climate control, driver power lumbar control, and wireless charging. At the top, the ZR2 brought a Multimatic DSSV Damping System, increased ground clearance and track width, a spray-on bedliner, unique front styling, a black rear bumper, wheel flares, larger 265/65R17 all-terrain tires, leather front seats, and a four-way power passenger seat. Chevrolet also added the ZR2 Bison package in 2019, which brought even more hard-core off-road gear from aftermarket builder American Expedition Vehicles.
The 2020 Colorado is not without drawbacks, though. The model line’s early transmission woes are a known issue, with recurring problems reported on trucks built from 2014 to 2019 and even a few later ones, including shakes, jerks, clunks, failure to engage at all, and complete failure. Even so, the Colorado remains a solid companion with good value for the money, and its strength is in the mid-range and high trims, where it offers a good balance of performance and brawn.

This truck has more bells and whistles than the one I traded. Gotta get used to those. Not fond of the mirrors not being electric, but I can get past that. It has a couple of deep scratches in the paint that can be fixed. Based on the overall price I’m paying, I’m satisfied.

I got a great value on this vehicle from an individual. That is the main reason for buying it, although I had seen the reviews about it being a great vehicle. It is not a smooth ride - I call it rough and ready. But it gets around 23 mpg on average. It has a V6 and an automatic transmission. I wish it came with Sirius XM radio, but I can use Android Auto and the app on my phone to listen to my favorite XM stations.

Is the 2020 Chevrolet Colorado a good car?
Yes — 4.67/5 is a strong user rating for this model year. The 2020 Chevrolet Colorado stands out as a midsize pickup that blends real utility with a broad range of trims and powertrains, so you can shop it as either a basic workhorse or a more comfortable daily driver. Its appeal is strongest if you want a truck with flexible configurations and capability-focused upper trims. 33.9% of listings are priced as good or great deals, which gives you some room to shop selectively.
Is the 2020 Chevrolet Colorado reliable?
Owners rate it 4.67/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.
The 2020 Colorado does have known transmission concerns, with recurring problems reported on trucks built from 2014 to 2019 and even a few later ones. That means you should treat condition and service history as especially important when evaluating a used example. For long-term ownership, the main risk is buying a truck that already shows signs of the transmission issues tied to this generation.
What should I look for when buying a used 2020 Chevrolet Colorado?
At 68.2% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
You should start with a vehicle history report and confirm whether any prior damage was repaired properly. Put the truck on an inspection lift if possible, and pay close attention to the transmission’s behavior during a test drive. Focus on overall condition, service records, and signs of hard use, especially if you are considering a higher-trim truck that may have seen more demanding driving.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2020 Chevrolet Colorado?
This looks like a moderate market, so you can shop carefully without feeling rushed.

What is the 2020 Chevrolet Colorado's resale value?
The current average of $22,460 sits slightly below last year's $23,442.
That price movement suggests the market has cooled a bit, which can help you buy at a more favorable entry point today. For a future seller, the softer trend means resale upside may be more limited unless the truck is especially well kept or equipped. Strong condition and clean history matter more when the broader market is already leaning downward.
Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.67/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Should I buy a 2020 Chevrolet Colorado or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2020 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2020 if:
- 33.9% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- At 68.2% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 4.19% compared with last year.
- Owners rate it 4.67/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
Consider the 2019 if:
- At $21,537, the 2019 costs less than the current year's $22,460 average.
- It emphasizes simplicity and sensibility.
The bottom line: Choose the 2020 if you want the stronger current-market balance of price, availability, and buyer satisfaction. If you are especially price-sensitive, the 2019 is the better value play, but the 2020 gives you a broader shopping pool and a more current market position.
