Used 2020 BMW X3 M for Sale nearNew Brunswick, NJ

How much does the 2020 BMW X3 M cost?

Prices have softened 4.70% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.

There are 98 listings available, which gives you a modest amount of inventory to compare before you buy.

Is the 2020 BMW X3 M a good car?

Yes — the 2020 BMW X3 M earns a 4.9/5 user rating and an 8.3/10 expert rating. The model scores 9/10 across Performance, Form and function, Technology, and Safety.

Owners consistently praise its impressive power, sporty handling, and stylish design, and they also like that it feels at home both on the track and in everyday driving. The trade-offs are a subdued exhaust note and fuel economy that may not satisfy every driver. In practical terms, you’re looking at a performance-focused luxury SUV that still keeps the utility and straightforward design that help the X3 remain appealing over time. 38.8% of listings are priced as good or great deals, so there is still some room to shop selectively.

Is the 2020 BMW X3 M reliable?

Owners rate it 4.9/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

The owner feedback points to a dependable-feeling ownership experience, with drivers describing the model as impressive, sporty, and satisfying over time. The expert evaluation also emphasizes that the X3’s utility and straightforward design should continue to appeal to buyers for years. BMW includes three-year/36,000-mile maintenance, which helps reduce early ownership friction. For used buyers, the main long-term risk is that a high-performance SUV can be expensive to keep in top shape if it has been driven hard or poorly maintained.

What should I look for when buying a used 2020 BMW X3 M?

At 70.4% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should start with a vehicle history report and then prioritize a thorough pre-purchase inspection, especially if the SUV has been modified, tracked, or driven aggressively. Focus on condition details that matter most on a performance model: tires, brakes, suspension wear, and signs of uneven panel fit or repair work. It also helps to confirm that maintenance records are complete and that the car’s electronics and driver-assistance features work as expected.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The X3 M stands apart from the more restrained X3 trims with its lowered stance, 21-inch wheels, black quad exhaust pipes, aggressive front intakes, blue brake calipers, and M-exclusive interior details like quilted leather, carbon fiber trim, and bucket seats. The base X3 trims emphasize sporty driving with less visual drama, so the M is the one to choose if you want the full performance look and feel.
• Powertrain: The X3 M uses a twin-turbo 3.0-liter inline six-cylinder engine with 473 hp, and the Competition version raises output to 503 hp. BMW pairs that with an eight-speed automatic, AWD, and multiple drive, steering, suspension, and drivetrain modes. It is extremely quick, but the ride is firm and fuel economy is not a strength.
• Safety package: The standard safety setup includes forward emergency braking, pedestrian detection, adaptive cruise control, and parking sensors. Blind-spot monitoring, lane-departure warning, lane keep assist, evasive steering assist, Traffic Jam Assist, and auto high beams are tied to packages, so you should verify which features are actually fitted on the car you’re considering.
• Infotainment: You get a sharp touchscreen with standard navigation, wireless Apple CarPlay, and no Android Auto. The system also supports 360-degree cameras, Gesture Control, onboard manual access, wireless charging as an option, and a WiFi hotspot as an option.
• Fuel efficiency: The X3 M is rated at 14 mpg city, 19 mpg highway, and 16 mpg combined.

Which 2020 BMW X3 M trim should I buy?

The 2020 BMW X3 M is offered in 2 trim levels: X3 M and X3 M Competition.

Here's the short version:

• X3 M: This is the better-value choice if you want the core X3 M experience without chasing the highest output. You still get the twin-turbo inline-six, AWD, the aggressive M chassis tuning, and the performance hardware that makes the model special.
• X3 M Competition: This is the one for you if you want the most extreme version of the X3 M. It adds 503 hp, and the expert review makes clear that it is the more intense, track-ready setup. Choose it if outright performance matters more than comfort or cost.

The safety package is not fully standard, so check carefully for the driver-assistance features you want before you buy.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2020 BMW X3 M?

This is a moderate market for selective buyers, so you can shop with some leverage if you’re patient.

• Deal availability: 38.8% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 98 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 4.70% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 70.4% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $42,635, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2020 BMW X3 M's resale value?

The current average of $43,162 sits slightly below last year's $45,291.

That decline suggests the market has softened, which can work in your favor if you’re buying now but may pressure resale returns if you plan to sell soon. For a future seller, the key takeaway is that pricing remains sensitive to condition, mileage, and equipment, so a clean, well-kept example should hold up better than one with accident history or heavy wear. Because this model has strong owner satisfaction, demand should remain healthier than average for a performance SUV.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.9/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2020 BMW X3 M safe?

The 2020 X3 is rated a Top Safety Pick+ by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) and earns five-star ratings overall and in all three crash tests from NHTSA.

It earns a 9/10 safety score from our experts.

The standard safety equipment includes forward emergency braking, pedestrian detection, adaptive cruise control, and parking sensors. Blind-spot monitoring and lane-departure warning are optional on the Driving Assistance Package, while the Plus version adds lane keep assist, evasive steering assist, and Traffic Jam Assist for semi-automated control. Auto high beams are part of another package. Knee airbags are not available.

Should I buy a 2020 BMW X3 M or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2020 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2020 if:

• 38.8% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 70.4% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 4.70% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.9/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• The expert review highlights that the X3 M is track-tuned, with ultra-responsive steering, immense grip, and nearly zero body roll.

The bottom line: If you want the most engaging version of the X3 lineup and you value performance over comfort, the 2020 X3 M is the right path. If you’re more price-sensitive, a standard X3 trim may make more sense because it delivers more comfort and lower running costs while still keeping the same basic utility.
