How much does the 2020 BMW 5 Series cost?

Prices have softened 7.02% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.

There are 1,166 listings available, which suggests solid inventory for comparison shopping.

Is the 2020 BMW 5 Series a good car?

Yes — the 5/5 user rating points to strong owner satisfaction. The 2020 5 Series sits in the G30 generation, which had already shifted toward a more comfortable luxury-sedan character without abandoning its performance roots. You also get a broad range of powertrains, so you can prioritize efficiency, all-weather traction, or stronger straight-line performance depending on the version you choose. For shoppers who want a refined, well-equipped midsize luxury sedan with real performance credibility, it fits that brief well. There are 39.2% of listings priced as good or great deals, which gives you room to shop selectively.

Is the 2020 BMW 5 Series reliable?

Owners rate it 5/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

The overview also points to a better reliability record than the earlier F10 generation, which is encouraging if you want a used luxury sedan with fewer worries than some older BMWs. Even so, you should still expect normal used-car maintenance and pay close attention to service history, because premium sedans can become expensive if prior care was inconsistent. For long-term ownership, the safest path is a well-documented example with clean maintenance records.

What should I look for when buying a used 2020 BMW 5 Series?

At 69.6% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should run a vehicle history report on every candidate and confirm whether any damage was cosmetic or structural. A pre-purchase inspection should focus on bodywork quality, panel alignment, tire wear, and signs of uneven repair. Because this is a luxury sedan with multiple powertrain choices, condition and maintenance history matter more than mileage alone.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2020 BMW 5 Series?

This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop carefully and still find worthwhile options.

• Deal availability: 39.2% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 1,166 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 7.02% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 69.6% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $24,758, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2020 BMW 5 Series's resale value?

The current average of $25,292 sits slightly below last year's $27,200.

That decline suggests the market has already adjusted downward, which can help you buy at a more favorable entry point today. For a future seller, the same trend means resale upside may be more limited unless you buy well, keep the car in excellent condition, and choose a desirable configuration. Strong maintenance records and clean history should matter a lot when it comes time to sell.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 5/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Should I buy a 2020 BMW 5 Series or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2020 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2020 if:

• 39.2% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 69.6% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 7.02% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 5/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.

Consider the 2021 if:

• At $28,838, the 2021 costs more than the current year's $25,292 average.
• The refresh adds a 48-volt mild-hybrid system and a bigger infotainment touchscreen.

The bottom line: If you want the better value, the 2020 is the smarter starting point because it combines a lower average price with strong owner satisfaction and meaningful inventory. If you’re willing to pay more for a fresher feel and updated tech, the 2021 is the better secondary path for price-sensitive buyers who still want a newer setup.
