Is the 2020 BMW 4 Series a good car?

Generally — the 2020 BMW 4 Series earns a 4.3/5 user rating, which points to strong owner satisfaction. Owners consistently praise its impressive power, agility, and design, and many also like the hardtop convertible setup and the way it feels on the road. For you, that makes it a strong fit if you want a stylish luxury coupe or convertible with a more distinctive presence than a conventional alternative. With 33.3% of listings marked as good or great deals, there is still some room to shop selectively.

Is the 2020 BMW 4 Series reliable?

Owners rate it 4.3/5, a solid signal of long-term satisfaction.

The owner feedback points to a car that feels dependable in daily use, with praise centered on its performance and overall ownership experience. That said, used luxury cars can carry higher long-term ownership risk if maintenance has been deferred, so you should pay close attention to service history and condition before you buy.

What should I look for when buying a used 2020 BMW 4 Series?

At 61.9% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should run a vehicle history report on any car you’re seriously considering and confirm whether prior damage was repaired properly. A pre-purchase inspection should be a priority, especially if the car has had bodywork, because condition and repair quality matter more than mileage alone. Focus on signs of uneven panel gaps, inconsistent paint, worn interior controls, and any evidence that the car has been driven hard or maintained inconsistently.

What is the 2020 BMW 4 Series's resale value?

The current average of $23,006 sits slightly below last year's $24,759.

That price movement suggests the market has cooled, which can help you buy at a better entry point now. If you plan to resell later, a lower purchase price can reduce your depreciation exposure, especially if you buy a well-kept example. Strong condition and clean history will matter most when it comes time to attract future buyers.

Vehicles with solid owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.3/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Should I buy a 2020 BMW 4 Series or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2020 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2020 if:

• 33.3% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 61.9% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 7.08% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.3/5 — a solid satisfaction signal.

Consider the 2021 if:

• At $31,834, the 2021 costs more than the current year's $23,006 average.
• It brings a redesigned, more dramatic look with a bigger, more luxurious feel.

The bottom line: If you want the better value, the 2020 is the stronger starting point because it combines a lower average price with solid owner satisfaction. If you’re willing to pay more for a newer design and a more upscale feel, the 2021 is the better alternative; if you’re price-sensitive, the 2020 is the smarter buy.
