Is the 2019 Subaru WRX a good car?

Generally — 4.33/5 is a strong user rating for a car that blends everyday usability with enthusiast appeal. The 2019 WRX stands out as a practical sport compact with a rally-bred personality, standard all-wheel drive, and a turbocharged four-cylinder Boxer engine. It also benefits from the broader improvements of its redesign era, including more interior space, better fuel efficiency, and a stiffer chassis, while still emphasizing handling and traction for daily driving. The tradeoff is that you’re still dealing with outdated technology, a cramped back seat in older models, and poor fuel economy. 32.0% of listings are priced as good or great deals, which gives you some room to shop selectively.

Is the 2019 Subaru WRX reliable?

Owners rate it 4.33/5, a solid signal of long-term satisfaction.

The 2019 WRX’s reliability story is tied to its practical, proven formula: standard all-wheel drive, a turbocharged engine, and a generation that had already been on the market for several years. That usually helps reduce the risk of early-model surprises compared with a brand-new redesign. For used buyers, the main long-term ownership risk is less about novelty and more about how hard the car was driven and how well it was maintained.

What should I look for when buying a used 2019 Subaru WRX?

At 58.4% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should start with a vehicle history report and confirm whether any prior damage was cosmetic or structural. Put inspection priority on signs of uneven wear, sloppy repairs, and evidence that the car was modified or driven aggressively. Focus on overall condition and maintenance records, because a performance-oriented used car can vary a lot from one example to the next.

If you find a listing below $19,012, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2019 Subaru WRX's resale value?

The current average of $19,130 sits slightly below last year's $20,140.

That price movement suggests the market has cooled a bit, which can help you as a buyer today but may temper what you can ask later as a seller. If you buy at the right price and keep the car in strong condition, you’ll be better positioned to preserve value. The WRX’s enthusiast appeal can help support demand, especially when the car is clean and well cared for.

Vehicles with solid owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.33/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Should I buy a 2019 Subaru WRX or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2019 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2019 if:

• 32.0% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 58.4% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 5.02% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.33/5 — a solid satisfaction signal.

Consider the 2020 if:

• At $21,333, the 2020 costs more than the current year's $19,130 average.
• It adds a more modern-feeling daily-driver balance with sensible tech and safety features.

The bottom line: If you want the better value play, the 2019 is the stronger starting point because it combines a lower average price with meaningful inventory and a softer market. If you’re willing to spend more for a newer model year, the 2020 is the better secondary path for buyers who want the extra polish and are less focused on price.
