CarGurus Analysis: 2019 Subaru Outback

Summary
With 130 currently listed for sale near Orlando, FL and an average price of $16,196, 22.3% of 2019 Subaru Outbacks for sale on CarGurus are rated as good or great deals.
Favorably reviewed: Owners rated the 2019 Subaru Outback 4.96 / 5 stars.

Why it stands out
The 2019 Subaru Outback stands out as a practical, all-weather family vehicle with a strong reputation for capability and safety. By this generation, Subaru had already made the Outback a crossover rather than a wagon, and the model’s appeal rested on standard all-wheel drive, a roomier cabin, and a more refined ride than earlier versions. It also benefited from the generation’s broader focus on technology and driver assistance, which helped make the Outback feel modern without losing its rugged, go-anywhere character.
For buyers, the 2019 model is especially notable because the entire EyeSight suite became standard across the lineup that year. That makes it an attractive choice for shoppers who want advanced safety equipment without moving up to a newer vehicle. The Outback also remained one of the more affordable ways to get a vehicle of this size and capability, while still offering the kind of comfort and practicality that have long made it a favorite among Subaru owners.
It is not perfect, though. The continuously variable transmission can feel droney, and the Outback still does not return the best fuel mileage. Long-term maintenance can also be costlier than some rivals, which is worth keeping in mind for used-car shoppers. Even so, the 2019 Subaru Outback’s mix of space, safety, and all-weather confidence makes it a compelling choice for drivers who value usefulness over flash.

| Year-Round High | $19,278 |
| Average Price a Year Ago | $19,274 |
| Change vs. Last Year | −7.86% |

Is the 2019 Subaru Outback a good car?
Yes — the 4.96/5 user rating points to very strong owner satisfaction. Drivers consistently praise the smooth ride, ample safety features, and roomy interior, and many also like the power and fuel economy in challenging climates. For you, that means this model fits especially well if you want a practical, all-weather family vehicle with everyday comfort and usefulness. With 33.5% of listings marked as good or great deals, you have room to shop selectively.
Is the 2019 Subaru Outback reliable?
Owners rate it 4.96/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.
The user feedback also points to dependable everyday use, with drivers highlighting the vehicle’s trouble-free comfort, safety, and confidence in difficult weather. That kind of feedback matters if you want a used vehicle you can count on for regular commuting, family duty, and long-term ownership.
For used buyers, the main risk is less about the overall reputation and more about finding a well-maintained example with a clean service history.
What should I look for when buying a used 2019 Subaru Outback?
At 74.3% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
You should run a vehicle history report before you commit, then prioritize a pre-purchase inspection if the listing has any accident or repair history. Focus on body condition, paint consistency, and signs of wear that could point to past damage or poor repairs. Because some owners mention exterior scratches and oil maintenance between changes, it also makes sense to check cosmetic condition and service records carefully.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2019 Subaru Outback?
This is a moderate market, so you can be selective without expecting every listing to be a bargain.
- Deal availability: 33.5% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 2,683 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 7.86% compared with last year.
- Clean inventory: 74.3% of listings are accident-free.
If you find a listing below $17,554, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2019 Subaru Outback's resale value?
The current average of $17,759 sits slightly below last year's $19,274.
That price movement suggests the market has cooled, which can help you buy at a more favorable entry point today. For a future seller, it also means resale value may depend more on condition, mileage, and documentation than on broad market momentum. If you keep the vehicle well maintained and avoid accident history, you should be in a better position when it’s time to sell.
Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.96/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Should I buy a 2019 Subaru Outback or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2019 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2019 if:
- 33.5% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- At 74.3% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 7.86% compared with last year.
- Owners rate it 4.96/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
Consider the 2018 if:
- At $15,943, the 2018 costs less than the current year's $17,759 average.
- It emphasizes affordable capability with smooth ride, safety, and cargo space.
Consider the 2020 if:
- At $21,018, the 2020 costs more than the current year's $17,759 average.
- It adds a larger touchscreen and updated safety tech.
The bottom line: If you want the best balance of value, owner satisfaction, and current market pricing, the 2019 is the primary choice. If your budget is tighter, the 2018 is the better price-first alternative. If you want newer features and can spend more, the 2020 is the upgrade path to consider.
