FAQs
Nissan’s compact Rogue crossover offers ample space, plenty of features, and versatile style. In select markets, the automaker offers a gasoline-electric Rogue Hybrid, providing the only competition for the similarly sized Toyota RAV4 Hybrid. For 2019, the efficient Rogue Hybrid sees some minor updates.
Visually, the only way to tell the Rogue Hybrid apart from the ordinary Rogue is by a set of hybrid badges on the exterior of the vehicle and an energy-flow readout in place of the standard car’s temperature gauge. Importantly, you don’t lose much space by going with the Rogue Hybrid. The rear floor is a bit taller, contributing to a cargo-hold that decreases from 32 to 27.3 cubic feet. However, passenger space is exactly the same, with room for 5 people across two rows and identical sliding, reclining, and 60/40-split-folding rear seats.
In place of the conventional Rogue’s 2.5-liter engine, the Rogue Hybrid gets a downsized 2.0-liter inline 4-cylinder engine, a single electric motor, and a lithium-ion battery. Together, they put out 176 net horsepower. All power goes through a continuously variable automatic transmission (CVT), and standard front-wheel drive (FWD) or optional all-wheel drive (AWD). With FWD, it’s good for 33 mpg city, 35 highway, and 34 combined, while AWD offers 31, 34, and 33--both beating the regular Rogue’s 26, 33, and 29.
You can specify either the SV Hybrid or SL Hybrid trim for your Rogue Hybrid, and either one commands a slight premium over a comparable non-hybrid Rogue. The SV trim includes 17-inch alloy wheels, a motion-sensing power liftgate, dual-zone automatic climate control, keyless access and start, an 8-way power driver’s seat, a 7.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, LED map lights, mood lighting, roof rails, heated outside mirrors, and heated front seats. Opt for the SV Hybrid Premium Package, and you’ll get navigation, satellite and HD radio, a panoramic moonroof, a heated leather-wrapped steering wheel, a memory driver’s seat, and a Bose audio system with 9 speakers.
The upmarket SL Hybrid gets almost everything from the SV Hybrid trim and SV Hybrid Premium Package, along with leather upholstery and LED headlights and taillights. The available SL Hybrid Premium Package now bundles a panoramic sunroof, 18-inch wheels, and the Bose audio system.
With the 2019 update, Nissan focused on improving the Rogue Hybrid's safety features. A reversing camera was already standard, but you’ll now find lane-departure warning, lane-change intervention, automatic emergency braking with pedestrian detection, rear automatic braking, rear parking sensors, and automatic high beams on every model. Other features includes the Easy-Fill Alert system that chirps the horn as you fill each tire to the recommended tire pressure and a new rear-door-alert system, intended to remind you to check your backseat for children or precious cargo. Adaptive cruise control and blind-spot monitoring are the only available options. While the Rogue Hybrid hasn’t been crash tested, the structurally similar non-hybrid model earned a 2018 Top Safety Pick designation from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS).
The Nissan Rogue Hybrid continues to offer plenty of space, technology, and comfort, making it a great choice for shoppers looking to go green.
