Is the 2019 Nissan Altima a good car?

Yes — the 2019 Nissan Altima earns a 4.88/5 user rating and a 7.83/10 expert rating. The standout strength is Safety at 10/10.

Owners consistently praise its smooth drive, advanced tech features, and stylish design. They also highlight comfortable seating and responsive handling, which fits the Altima’s role as an easy everyday sedan. On the trade-off side, the expert review points to fairly pedestrian performance and a potentially polarizing design.

That makes it a strong fit if you want a comfortable, tech-friendly midsize sedan with a polished cabin rather than a sporty personality. With 27.3% of listings marked as good or great deals, there is still room to shop selectively.

Is the 2019 Nissan Altima reliable?

The owner feedback points to a smooth, dependable-feeling sedan that many buyers felt good about choosing. The expert review also emphasizes that Nissan built this Altima around modern commuter-friendly features, with straightforward controls and a well-integrated tech setup that should make daily use easy to count on.

Nissan also gives you a strong ownership value story through the Altima’s feature content, which helps support confidence over time. For used buyers, the main long-term risk is less about outright complexity and more about making sure the specific car you choose has been maintained well and hasn’t been worn down by heavy use.

What should I look for when buying a used 2019 Nissan Altima?

At 55.7% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should start with a vehicle-history report and then prioritize a close inspection of body panels, paint consistency, tires, and interior wear. Because this model year was redesigned, it is especially worth confirming that the technology, driver-assistance features, and all-wheel-drive or turbocharged equipment on the car you’re considering all work as intended. Focus on condition first, then compare trim content so you know whether the asking price matches the equipment level.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The S trim includes Zero Gravity seats, push-button start, an 8-way power driver’s seat, four USB ports, satellite radio, and an 8-inch touchscreen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Higher trims add features such as 19-inch wheels, LED headlights, heated seats, leather seating, Bose audio, navigation, and a surround-view monitor, so the base car is the one to scrutinize most closely if you want a richer feature set.
• Powertrain: The Altima offers a 2.5-liter 4-cylinder with 188 horsepower and 180 pound-feet of torque, plus an available turbocharged 2.0-liter 4-cylinder with variable compression technology. Both pair with a CVT, and the car can be had with front-wheel drive or available all-wheel drive.
• Safety package: ProPilot Assist is standard on the SV, SL, and Platinum trims, while forward-collision warning and driver-alertness monitoring are standard on every Altima. The standard safety equipment also includes front- and side-impact airbags, traction control, vehicle dynamics control, and a reversing camera.
• Infotainment: You get an 8-inch touchscreen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, plus NissanConnect and a 7-inch color Drive Assist display. The setup is straightforward, and the hard buttons below the screen make it easier to use on the move.
• Fuel efficiency: The 2.5-liter engine returns 28 mpg city, 39 highway, and 32 combined, while the AWD version is rated at 25 city, 35 highway, and 29 combined. The turbocharged 2.0-liter engine is expected to return 25 city, 34 highway, and 29 combined.

Which 2019 Nissan Altima trim should I buy?

The 2019 Nissan Altima is offered in 5 trim levels: S, SR, SV, SL, and Platinum.

Here's the short version:

• S: This is the value-focused starting point, and it already gives you the Altima’s comfortable Zero Gravity seats, an 8-inch touchscreen, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and a strong basic equipment list. If you want the lowest entry price and still want the core tech experience, this is the trim to start with.
• SR: This trim adds a sportier look with 19-inch wheels, LED headlights, a rear spoiler, and a leather-wrapped steering wheel with paddle shifters. It makes sense if you care more about appearance and a slightly richer cabin feel than maximum value.
• SV: This is the best-value trim for most shoppers because it adds a lot of everyday comfort and convenience, including heated seats, a heated steering wheel, power lumbar adjustment, a moonroof, automatic climate control, adaptive cruise control, and Intelligent Climate Control. It also gets ProPilot Assist, which makes it the sweet spot if you want the most useful upgrades without jumping to luxury pricing.
• SL: Choose this if you want a more upscale feel, with leather seating, a 4-way power front-passenger seat, Bose premium audio, and navigation with live traffic updates. It is the right pick if cabin refinement matters more to you than value.
• Platinum: This is the most fully equipped Altima, adding 19-inch wheels, memory settings for the driver’s seat, a 360-degree surround-view monitor, and interior accent lighting. Buy this if you want the most features and the most premium presentation.

ProPilot Assist is standard on the SV, SL, and Platinum trims, so those are the trims to target if that driver-assistance suite matters to you.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2019 Nissan Altima?

This is a moderate buyer’s market, so you can shop selectively without feeling rushed.

• Deal availability: 27.3% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 2,314 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 10.35% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 55.7% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $13,698, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2019 Nissan Altima's resale value?

The current average of $13,698 sits slightly below last year's $15,279.

That decline suggests the market has already adjusted downward, which can help you as a buyer but may limit upside if you plan to resell soon. For a future seller, the key takeaway is that the Altima’s value is being supported more by its equipment and broad appeal than by price momentum. If you buy well and keep the car in strong condition, you should be in a better position to preserve value than someone who overpays today.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.88/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2019 Nissan Altima safe?

The 2019 Nissan Altima earns a 10/10 safety score from our experts.

It comes standard with front- and side-impact airbags, traction control, vehicle dynamics control, a reversing camera, forward-collision warning, and driver-alertness monitoring. ProPilot Assist is standard on the SV, SL, and Platinum trims, and it adds steering assistance and speed matching in traffic to help reduce fatigue on longer drives.

That said, the safety story is strongest on the better-equipped trims, so you should confirm the exact driver-assistance content on any used listing before you buy.

Should I buy a 2019 Nissan Altima or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2019 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2019 if:

• 27.3% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 55.7% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 10.35% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.88/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• It was all-new for 2019 and brought a more upscale cabin, easier tech, and a stronger overall package than the outgoing model.

Consider the 2020 if:

• At $14,406, the 2020 costs more than the current year's $13,698 average.
• Safety Shield 360 becomes more widely available.

The bottom line: If you want the better value today, the 2019 is the smarter buy because it combines a lower average price with strong owner satisfaction and a modern feature set. If you are willing to spend more for broader safety availability, the 2020 is the better path for safety-focused shoppers.
