Is the 2019 Nissan Altima a good car?

Yes — the 2019 Nissan Altima earns a 4.9/5 user rating and a 7.8/10 expert rating. The standout strength is Safety at 10/10.

The main trade-offs are fairly pedestrian performance and a potentially polarizing design. With 29.4% of listings marked as good or great deals, you have some room to shop selectively.

Is the 2019 Nissan Altima reliable?

Owners rate it 4.9/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

The user feedback points to a dependable, trouble-free ownership experience, with buyers repeatedly highlighting smooth driving manners and a car they felt good about choosing. Nissan’s emphasis on straightforward controls and commuter-friendly features adds to the sense that this is a car built to be counted on.

For used buyers, the main long-term ownership risk is less about outright durability and more about finding a well-kept example with the right equipment and maintenance history.

What should I look for when buying a used 2019 Nissan Altima?

At 52.2% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should start with a vehicle history report and then prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially if the car has had bodywork or multiple owners. Focus on condition, maintenance records, and whether the features you want are actually present on the trim you’re considering. Because this model was all-new for 2019, it’s worth making sure any early-production quirks or wear items have been addressed.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The S comes with Zero Gravity seats, push-button start, an 8-way power driver’s seat, four USB ports, satellite radio, and an 8-inch touchscreen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Higher trims add more comfort and convenience, and the SV stands out as the best-value choice because it adds heated front seats, a heated steering wheel, a power moonroof, automatic climate control with rear vents, and more driver-assistance tech.
• Powertrain: The standard 2.5-liter 4-cylinder makes 188 horsepower and 180 pound-feet of torque, while the SR and Platinum can be had with a turbocharged 2.0-liter 4-cylinder that aims to deliver V6-like power with 4-cylinder fuel economy. Both engines use a CVT, and AWD is available on the 2.5-liter models.
• Safety package: ProPilot Assist is standard on the SV, SL, and Platinum trims, while forward-collision warning and driver-alertness monitoring are standard on every Altima. The standard safety equipment also includes front- and side-impact airbags, traction control, vehicle dynamics control, and a reversing camera.
• Infotainment: You get an 8-inch touchscreen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, plus NissanConnect and a 7-inch color Drive Assist display. The setup is designed to be easy to use, with physical knobs and buttons below the screen.
• Fuel efficiency: The 2.5-liter engine returns 28 mpg city, 39 highway, and 32 combined, while the turbocharged 2.0-liter is expected to return 25 mpg city, 34 highway, and 29 combined. AWD lowers the 2.5-liter’s figures to 25 city, 35 highway, and 29 combined.

Which 2019 Nissan Altima trim should I buy?

The 2019 Nissan Altima is offered in 5 trim levels: S, SR, SV, SL, Platinum.

Here's the short version:

• S: This is the entry point, but it still gives you the core Altima experience with comfortable Zero Gravity seats, an 8-inch touchscreen, and standard smartphone integration. It makes sense if you want the lowest-cost way into the model and can live without the extra comfort and driver-assistance features.
• SR: This trim adds a sportier look with 19-inch wheels, LED headlights, a rear spoiler, and a leather-wrapped steering wheel with paddle shifters. It suits you if style matters more than value, but it is not the best all-around buy.
• SV: This is the best-value trim because it adds the most useful everyday upgrades, including heated front seats, a heated steering wheel, a power moonroof, automatic climate control, rear vents, and adaptive cruise control. It also gets ProPilot Assist, which makes it the sweet spot for most shoppers.
• SL: This trim leans more upscale with leather seating, a Bose premium sound system, and navigation with live traffic updates. Choose it if you want a more premium cabin and are willing to pay for it.
• Platinum: This is the most fully equipped version, adding a 360-degree surround-view monitor, memory settings for the driver’s seat, and interior accent lighting. It is the right pick if you want the most features and do not mind paying for them.

ProPilot Assist is standard on the SV, SL, and Platinum trims, so those are the trims to target if advanced driver assistance matters to you.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2019 Nissan Altima?

The market looks moderately favorable if you’re a selective buyer.

• Deal availability: 29.4% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 2,341 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 10.74% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 52.2% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $13,313, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2019 Nissan Altima's resale value?

The current average of $13,313 sits slightly below last year's $14,914.

That price movement suggests the Altima has already absorbed a meaningful amount of depreciation, which can help future sellers avoid the steepest early drop. If you buy at the right price and keep the car in strong condition, you may have a better chance of limiting your loss when it’s time to sell. The current market also shows enough demand to support used values, especially for well-equipped examples with clean histories.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.9/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2019 Nissan Altima safe?

The 2019 Nissan Altima earns a 10/10 safety score from our experts.

Standard safety equipment includes front- and side-impact airbags, traction control, vehicle dynamics control, and a reversing camera. ProPilot Assist is standard on the SV, SL, and Platinum trims, and it adds partially autonomous driving functions such as speed matching and lane-centering steering inputs while you keep a hand on the wheel. Forward-collision warning and driver-alertness monitoring are standard on every Altima, which helps broaden the safety story across the lineup.

Should I buy a 2019 Nissan Altima or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2019 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2019 if:

• 29.4% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 52.2% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 10.74% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.9/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• The 2019 is all-new and brings premium-feeling interior materials, easy-to-use technology, and a major step forward in overall competitiveness.

Consider the 2020 if:

• At $13,993, the 2020 costs more than the current year's $13,313 average.
• Nissan Safety Shield 360 becomes more widely available.

The bottom line: If you want the better value today, the 2019 is the stronger buy because it combines a lower average price with solid owner satisfaction and a broad set of modern features. If advanced safety availability matters more than upfront cost, the 2020 is worth a look, but you’ll pay more for it.
