Is the 2019 Mazda CX-3 a good car?

Yes — the 2019 Mazda CX-3 earns a 5/5 user rating and a 7.83/10 expert rating. The standout strength is Look and feel at 10/10.

Owners consistently praise its sporty, fun driving character, stylish design, and great gas mileage. The expert review also highlights its premium interior materials and upscale appearance, which help it feel more refined than many small crossovers.

The trade-offs are clear: it is cramped inside, especially for taller passengers, and it does not offer much cargo space. That makes it a better fit if you value style and driving enjoyment over maximum utility.

With 31.7% of listings marked as good or great deals, you have some room to shop selectively.

Is the 2019 Mazda CX-3 reliable?

Owners rate it 5/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

User feedback points to a dependable, trouble-free ownership experience, with owners especially appreciating how well it performs over time and how confidently they can count on it. The expert review also describes it as a vehicle that feels more than basic and notes that the 2019 updates improve noise, vibration, and harshness.

The CX-3’s long-term ownership risk is mostly tied to its age and packaging compromises rather than obvious durability concerns, so a careful inspection still matters.

What should I look for when buying a used 2019 Mazda CX-3?

At 60.6% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should start with a vehicle history report and confirm whether any prior damage was repaired properly. Then prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially if you are considering a higher-mileage example or one with visible cosmetic wear. Because this model is small and practical compromises are part of the package, focus on cabin condition, seat wear, and cargo-area usability.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: Sport, Touring, and Grand Touring each add more polish, with Grand Touring standing out for full leather upholstery, a Bose sound system, navigation, and the available Premium Package. The base trim is the one most likely to leave you wanting more comfort and convenience features.
• Powertrain: A 2.0-liter four-cylinder with 148 horsepower and 146 pound-feet of torque is paired with a 6-speed automatic. Front-wheel drive is standard, and an optional predictive all-wheel-drive system can send power rearward before slip is felt.
• Safety package: Blind-spot monitoring and rear cross-traffic alert are standard, while iActiveSense packages add adaptive cruise control with stop-and-go, all-speed forward emergency braking, lane-departure warning, and adaptive high-beam headlights. Those packages are standard on Grand Touring.
• Infotainment: Mazda Connect uses a 7-inch touchscreen, center-console controls, and voice commands. It includes navigation and a Bose 7-speaker sound system on Grand Touring, but it does not include Apple CarPlay or Android Auto.
• Fuel efficiency: The EPA estimates 29 mpg city, 34 highway, and 31 combined with front-wheel drive, while all-wheel drive drops those figures to 27, 32, and 29.

Which 2019 Mazda CX-3 trim should I buy?

The 2019 Mazda CX-3 is offered in 3 trim levels: Sport, Touring, and Grand Touring.

Here's the short version:

• Sport: This is the entry point, and it gives you the CX-3’s core style and driving character at the lowest price. It makes sense if you want the look and feel without paying for extra comfort features.
• Touring: This is the best-value choice for most shoppers because it adds more everyday convenience and keeps the CX-3’s upscale personality intact without jumping all the way to the top trim.
• Grand Touring: This is the one to choose if you want the most premium experience, including leather upholstery, navigation, a Bose audio system, paddle shifters, and the available Premium Package features.

For safety, blind-spot monitoring and rear cross-traffic alert are standard across all trim levels, while the more advanced iActiveSense features are added through packages on Sport and Touring and come standard on Grand Touring.

If you find a listing below $15,712, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2019 Mazda CX-3's resale value?

The current average of $16,013 sits slightly below last year's $16,575.

That softer pricing suggests the CX-3 has become a more approachable used buy, but it also means future sellers may need to price competitively to stand out. If you buy well now, you may have a better chance of limiting depreciation pressure later. The model’s strong style and owner satisfaction should help support demand, even if its practicality limits the buyer pool.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 5/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2019 Mazda CX-3 safe?

It earns a 9/10 safety score from our experts.

Mazda’s iActiveSense packages add adaptive cruise control with stop-and-go, all-speed forward emergency braking, lane-departure warning, and adaptive high-beam headlights. Blind-spot monitoring and rear cross-traffic alert are standard on all trim levels, and the more advanced driver-assistance features are standard on Grand Touring.

One caveat is that the federal crash-test writeup notes elevated thoracic injury potential for the left rear-seat dummy in the side-pole test.

Should I buy a 2019 Mazda CX-3 or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2019 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2019 if:

• 31.7% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 60.6% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 3.39% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 5/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• The 2019 update brings more style, more sophistication, and improved noise, vibration, and harshness.

Consider the 2018 if:

• At $14,988, the 2018 costs less than the current year's $16,013 average.
• It adds standard low-speed emergency braking and improved cabin comfort.

The bottom line: If you want the more polished version of the CX-3 and can live with its tight packaging, the 2019 is the better all-around pick. If your priority is saving money and you can accept the same basic small-crossover compromises, the 2018 is the more budget-friendly route.
