How much does the 2019 MINI Cooper cost?

Prices have softened 7.34% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.

There are 437 listings available, which gives you a modest amount of inventory to compare.

Is the 2019 MINI Cooper a good car?

Yes — the 2019 MINI Cooper earns a 4.56/5 user rating and a 6.33/10 expert rating.

The model scores 7/10 across Look and feel and Form and function.

Owners consistently praise the fun driving experience, sporty performance, stylish design, and unique personality. The overview also points to a car that is best for buyers who care more about character and driving enjoyment than everyday practicality.

The trade-offs are clear: advanced safety features are not standard, the technology is unintuitive, and the car is poor value for money.

With 35.5% of listings marked as good or great deals, you have some room to shop selectively if you want the MINI’s charm without overpaying.

Is the 2019 MINI Cooper reliable?

Owners rate it 4.56/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

The owner summary points to a car that feels dependable in the ways that matter to enthusiasts: it is fun to drive, has a strong personality, and delivers the kind of ownership experience many drivers want to keep coming back to. The expert review also frames it as a car for people who value a smile-inducing, small-car experience over bland transportation.

The performance write-up reinforces that sense of confidence by describing the car as lively, engaging, and rewarding when you want a quick, responsive drive.

For used buyers, the main long-term ownership risk is that the car’s charm comes with complexity, so condition and maintenance history matter a lot.

What should I look for when buying a used 2019 MINI Cooper?

At 73% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should start with a vehicle history report and then prioritize a careful inspection of body panels, wheel condition, and any signs of prior repair. Because the car’s features can be complex, it also makes sense to test every major control and infotainment function before you buy. Focus on overall condition and maintenance records, especially if you are considering a higher-spec example.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The cabin uses an 8.8-inch display screen, navigation, MINI Connected Services, and an available head-up display, but the system is described as complex and unintuitive, so lower-spec versions may feel less polished if they lack the nicer equipment.
• Powertrain: The John Cooper Works version uses a turbocharged 2.0-liter 4-cylinder engine with 228 horsepower and 236 pound-feet of torque, and it can reach 60 mph in 5.9 seconds with the automatic or 6.1 seconds with the manual.
• Safety package: Active Driving Assistant includes forward-collision warning, automatic emergency braking, automatic high-beam headlights, and a speed-limit information system. Adaptive cruise control is available with the Driver Assistance Package, which also adds Parking Assistant and front parking sensors.
• Infotainment: The top-level system has an 8.8-inch display, navigation, MINI Connected Services, wireless charging, and wireless Apple CarPlay, but Android Auto is not available.
• Fuel efficiency: The available performance content does not state MPG or MPGe figures.

Which 2019 MINI Cooper trim should I buy?

The 2019 MINI Cooper is offered in 1 trim level: John Cooper Works.

Here's the short version:

The John Cooper Works trim is the clear choice if you want the most power, the strongest brakes, and the most aggressive driving character in the lineup. It is the best fit for you if performance matters more than value or simplicity, especially since the expert review specifically calls out the basic, focused version as the one that best suits the car’s personality.

The safety package is limited, and advanced driver-assistance features are not standard.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2019 MINI Cooper?

This is a moderate market for selective buyers, so it pays to compare listings carefully.

• Deal availability: 35.5% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 437 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 7.34% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 73.0% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $15,553, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2019 MINI Cooper's resale value?

The current average of $16,240 sits slightly below last year's $17,526.

That decline suggests the market has already adjusted downward, which can help you as a buyer but may limit upside if you plan to resell soon. If you buy at the right price, you reduce the chance of taking a bigger depreciation hit later. The year-round low of $15,553 also gives you a useful benchmark for negotiating.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.56/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2019 MINI Cooper safe?

The MINI Cooper earns a four-star overall rating from NHTSA.

It earns a 6/10 safety score from our experts.

The car comes with eight airbags, a reversing camera, and Active Driving Assistant, which includes forward-collision warning, automatic emergency braking, automatic high-beam headlights, and a speed-limit information system. Adaptive cruise control is available with the Driver Assistance Package, along with Parking Assistant and front parking sensors.

The main safety gaps are the absence of blind-spot monitoring, lane-departure warning, lane-keeping assist, and lane-centering assist. The IIHS also rated it a Top Safety Pick in 2018, but it lost that rating when requirements changed in 2019.

Should I buy a 2019 MINI Cooper or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2019 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2019 if:

• 35.5% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 73% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 7.34% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.56/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• The 2019 stands out for its fun-to-drive personality and stylish design, even though advanced safety features are not standard.

Consider the 2020 if:

• At $18,667, the 2020 costs more than the current year's $16,240 average.
• It adds an electric powertrain option.

The bottom line: If you want the lower purchase price and the classic MINI personality, the 2019 is the better value play. If you are willing to spend more for a newer model with an electric option, the 2020 is the more flexible choice. For most used shoppers, the 2019 makes sense when you prioritize character and price over maximum practicality.
