Is the 2019 Hyundai Elantra a good car?

That lines up well with the Elantra’s value-focused mission in the compact-sedan segment, especially if you want a practical daily driver with a lot of equipment for the money. Even so, the overview makes clear that the driving experience is not its strongest trait, so you should prioritize value and comfort over excitement.

29.9% of listings are priced as good or great deals, which gives you some room to shop selectively.

Is the 2019 Hyundai Elantra reliable?

Owners rate it 4.5/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

The owner feedback points to a car that feels dependable for everyday use, with praise for its smooth acceleration, comfortable interior, spacious trunk, and driving assist features. That kind of recurring praise suggests you can count on it as a practical commuter and road-trip companion, especially if you value comfort and convenience over flash. The expert review also frames it as a very nice car that delivers quality and value, which reinforces the sense that it should be a solid long-term ownership choice.

Hyundai’s warranty coverage adds another layer of confidence, with 5 years or 60,000 miles of bumper-to-bumper coverage and 10 years or 100,000 miles of powertrain protection. For used buyers, the main long-term risk is less about the brand promise and more about choosing a well-kept example with a clean history and consistent maintenance.

What should I look for when buying a used 2019 Hyundai Elantra?

At 58.2% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should start with a vehicle-history report and then prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially if the car has been in a collision or shows uneven wear. Focus on body condition, interior wear, and how well the safety and infotainment features work, since those are major parts of the Elantra’s appeal. If you’re comparing multiple listings, the cleanest example with the best maintenance record is usually worth the extra effort.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The sedan lineup includes SE, SEL, Value Edition, Eco, and Limited trims. The base SE is the most stripped-down version, while higher trims add more convenience, safety, and tech features that make the car feel more complete.
• Powertrain: The standard setup uses a 2.0-liter 4-cylinder engine with 147 horsepower and a 6-speed automatic transmission. It’s tuned for everyday commuting rather than excitement, and the driving modes can change the feel a bit, but not the character.
• Safety package: Starting with the SEL trim, you get forward-collision warning with automatic emergency braking, lane-departure warning with lane-keeping assist, a blind-spot-monitoring system with rear cross-traffic alert, and a driver-monitoring system. Limited adds adaptive cruise control, pedestrian detection enhancement, automatic high-beam headlights, and Safe Exit.
• Infotainment: Any version other than the base SE gets a 7-inch touchscreen with Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and satellite radio. Limited adds an Infinity premium sound system, and the Ultimate Package brings an 8-inch display and navigation.
• Fuel efficiency: The Elantra is rated at 32 mpg in combined driving, and the review also notes a 29.3 mpg test result and a 32.4 mpg trip-computer reading.

Which 2019 Hyundai Elantra trim should I buy?

The 2019 Hyundai Elantra is offered in 5 trim levels: SE, SEL, Value Edition, Eco, and Limited.

Here's the short version:

• SE: This is the entry point, but it’s the most basic version and leaves out some of the features that make the Elantra feel like a strong value. If you’re shopping strictly on price, it gets you into the model, but you’ll likely want to compare it carefully against the next trim up.
• SEL: This is the best-value trim for most shoppers because it adds the core safety equipment that makes the Elantra feel more complete, including forward-collision warning with automatic emergency braking, lane-keeping assist, blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, and a driver-monitoring system.
• Value Edition: This trim builds on the midrange formula with added convenience and connected-services appeal, and it’s a smart choice if you want more comfort and tech without jumping all the way to the top trim.
• Eco: Choose this if efficiency matters most and you want the more economy-minded version of the lineup.
• Limited: This is the most feature-rich choice, with the premium audio system and the available package that adds adaptive cruise control, pedestrian detection enhancement, automatic high beams, Safe Exit, navigation, and the larger display. It’s the right pick if you want the most upscale Elantra experience.

For safety, the key trim note is that several important driver-assistance features start at SEL, while Limited is required for the full set of advanced aids.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2019 Hyundai Elantra?

This is a moderate market, so you can shop selectively without expecting every listing to be a bargain.

• Deal availability: 29.9% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 2,282 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 6.29% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 58.2% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $11,414, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2019 Hyundai Elantra's resale value?

The current average of $11,650 sits slightly below last year's $12,432.

That decline suggests the market has become a bit more buyer-friendly, which can work against you if you’re planning to sell soon. On the other hand, it also means you may be buying after some of the steepest depreciation has already happened. If you keep the car in good condition and maintain it well, the Elantra’s value-oriented reputation can help it remain appealing to future shoppers.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.5/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2019 Hyundai Elantra safe?

The 2019 Elantra gets top marks across the board from IIHS, except for an Acceptable rating for the accessibility of its LATCH child-seat anchors. The government gives it a four-star overall rating from NHTSA, with four-star frontal-impact results and a four-star side-impact protection rating for rear-seat occupants.

It earns a 9/10 safety score from our experts.

Most versions include forward-collision warning with automatic emergency braking, lane-departure warning with lane-keeping assist, a blind-spot-monitoring system with rear cross-traffic alert, and a driver-monitoring system. Limited adds adaptive cruise control, pedestrian detection enhancement, automatic high-beam headlights, and Safe Exit. The main caveat is that you need to move up from the lower trims to get the full set of advanced safety features.

Should I buy a 2019 Hyundai Elantra or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2019 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2019 if:

• 29.9% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 58.2% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 6.29% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.5/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• The 2019 brings updated styling and improved interior touches, but it still leans heavily on value rather than driving excitement.

Consider the 2020 if:

• At $13,646, the 2020 costs more than the current year's $11,650 average.
• It adds free scheduled maintenance and new standard safety features.

The bottom line: If you want the better bargain, the 2019 is the smarter buy because it delivers strong value, solid owner satisfaction, and a lower average price. If you’re willing to pay more for a newer model with added maintenance and safety updates, the 2020 is the better choice. For most price-sensitive shoppers, though, the 2019 hits the sweet spot.
