How much does the 2019 Ford Ranger cost?

Is the 2019 Ford Ranger a good car?

Yes — the 2019 Ford Ranger earns a 4.5/5 user rating, and our experts give it 7.17/10. The standout strength is Cost effectiveness at 9/10.

Owners consistently praise its robust performance, advanced technology, and good fuel economy. Many also highlight the responsive engine and towing capacity, which fits the Ranger’s role as a practical midsize pickup. If you want a straightforward truck that emphasizes capability and value over luxury, that use case lines up well with what owners liked most. Good and great deals account for 35.1% of listings, so there’s still room to shop selectively.

Is the 2019 Ford Ranger reliable?

Owners rate it 4.5/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

Owner feedback points to a truck that feels dependable in daily use, with many drivers describing the engine and overall ownership experience positively. The expert evaluation also notes that the 2.3-liter EcoBoost has had earlier head-gasket concerns in a different application, but those issues were long resolved, and there’s no indication of problems here so far. Ford’s cost-effectiveness commentary also reinforces the Ranger’s appeal as a capable truck that can be easier to justify financially than some rivals.

For used buyers, the main long-term ownership risk is less about the core powertrain concept and more about how a specific truck was maintained and optioned.

What should I look for when buying a used 2019 Ford Ranger?

At 73.3% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should start with a vehicle history report and then prioritize a close inspection of body panels, alignment, and signs of prior repair. Because this truck was also subject to a recall tied to the shifter wiring sub-harness, it’s smart to confirm that any affected vehicle was repaired properly. Focus on overall condition, since some owners also mentioned production flaws and mixed interior impressions.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The base XL is the most stripped-down version, with steel 16-inch wheels, cloth upholstery, a manual-locking tailgate, and a spartan 4-speaker stereo, but it still includes a rear-view camera, USB port, and forward-collision warning with automatic emergency braking. The XLT adds 17-inch alloys, a 4.2-inch center screen with Ford Sync, an extra USB, a 4G Wi-Fi hotspot, and an upgraded 6-speaker stereo. The Lariat brings LEDs front and back, leather upholstery, dual-zone automatic climate control, an upgraded 8-inch touchscreen, and 18-inch alloys.
• Powertrain: The Ranger uses a 2.3-liter EcoBoost engine paired with a 10-speed transmission. The engine is described as stout and eager, with EPA-estimated 23 mpg combined, 21 city, and 26 highway, while the transmission can feel reluctant unless you use Sport mode.
• Safety package: Ford Co-Pilot360 is available on the XL and includes auto high beams, blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert and trailer tow monitoring, lane-keep warning and assist, forward and reverse parking sensors, and a 110-volt power outlet. The base truck already includes forward-collision warning with automatic emergency braking, but the broader suite is an important upgrade.
• Infotainment: The XLT’s 4.2-inch center screen with Ford Sync can be upgraded to Sync 3, which adds Android Auto, Apple CarPlay, and SiriusXM. The Lariat gets an 8-inch touchscreen, and the truck can also be equipped with a 4G Wi-Fi hotspot.
• Fuel efficiency: The Ranger returns an EPA-estimated 23 mpg combined, with 21 city and 26 highway.

Which 2019 Ford Ranger trim should I buy?

The 2019 Ford Ranger is offered in 3 trim levels: XL, XLT, Lariat.

Here's the short version:

• XL: This is the value play if you want the lowest entry price and can live with a basic cabin. It still gives you useful standard equipment like a rear-view camera, USB port, and automatic emergency braking, and it can be upgraded with Ford Co-Pilot360 if you want more safety tech.
• XLT: This is the best-value trim for most shoppers because it adds a more usable infotainment setup, a 4G Wi-Fi hotspot, and more everyday convenience. It also opens the door to Sync 3, which brings Android Auto and Apple CarPlay.
• Lariat: Choose this if you want the most comfort and the most upscale equipment in the lineup, including leather upholstery, dual-zone climate control, LED lighting, and the larger touchscreen.

The safety package note to keep in mind is that Ford Co-Pilot360 is available on the XL, while the XLT and Lariat can be equipped with additional tech and convenience features.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2019 Ford Ranger?

This is a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop with some leverage if you stay disciplined.

• Deal availability: 35.1% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 1,572 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 9.32% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 73.3% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $22,448, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2019 Ford Ranger's resale value?

The current average of $22,448 sits slightly below last year's $24,755.

That price movement suggests the Ranger has become more accessible for buyers, which can help demand in the near term. For a future seller, that means your resale outcome will depend heavily on condition, mileage, and equipment rather than broad market momentum alone. Well-kept trucks with desirable features should still attract attention, but you should expect pricing pressure if your truck is lightly equipped or shows signs of wear.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.5/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2019 Ford Ranger safe?

It earns a 5/10 safety score from our experts.

Ford says test data for this model is unavailable from both NHTSA and IIHS, so there are no crash-test ratings to cite here. The Ranger does offer forward-collision warning with automatic emergency braking on the base XL, and Ford Co-Pilot360 adds auto high beams, blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert and trailer tow monitoring, lane-keep warning and assist, forward and reverse parking sensors, and a 110-volt power outlet. One caveat worth noting is the recall tied to the shifter wiring sub-harness, which affected some North American vehicles.

Should I buy a 2019 Ford Ranger or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2019 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2019 if:

• 35.1% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 73.3% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 9.32% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.5/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• It returns to the U.S. with a simple, value-focused setup centered on the 2.3-liter EcoBoost and 10-speed transmission.

Consider the 2020 if:

• At $23,949, the 2020 costs more than the current year's $22,448 average.
• It adds a stronger emphasis on technology and a more polished overall appeal.

The bottom line: If you want the better value, the 2019 is the smarter starting point because prices have eased and the truck still delivers the core Ranger formula. If you’re willing to pay more for a newer model year with a stronger tech pitch, the 2020 is the secondary path to consider.
