What should I look for when buying a used 2019 Ford F-150?

At 73.2% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should start with a vehicle history report and then prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially if you’re considering a higher-trim or heavily used truck. Focus on condition details that matter in a full-size pickup: cabin wear, evidence of hard towing or hauling, and whether the truck’s equipment matches the listing. If you want the best value, compare feature content carefully because lower trims can leave out a lot of convenience and tech.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The XL is a true work truck with a reversing camera, AM/FM radio, a 4.2-inch audio-system screen, and dynamic hitch assist, while the XLT adds power windows and locks, an 8-inch Sync 3 screen, and a USB port. The Lariat adds a leather interior, heated and ventilated front seats, and satellite radio, while the King Ranch, Platinum, Raptor, and Limited move further up the luxury or specialty ladder. The base trim is the biggest feature gap, so it’s worth checking whether you need the added convenience and comfort of the higher trims.
• Powertrain: The lineup includes a 3.3-liter V6, a 2.7-liter twin-turbo EcoBoost V6, a 3.5-liter EcoBoost V6, a 5.0-liter V8, and a 3.0-liter Power Stroke turbodiesel V6. The diesel makes 250 horsepower and 440 pound-feet of torque, and it can tow up to 11,400 pounds when properly equipped. The 2.7-liter EcoBoost returns 20 mpg city, 26 highway, 22 combined with rear-wheel drive, while the diesel returns 22 mpg city, 30 highway, 25 combined with rear-wheel drive.
• Safety package: Standard safety features include a full array of front- and side-impact airbags, traction control, and a reversing camera. The available driver-assistance features include blind-spot monitoring, forward-collision avoidance, adaptive cruise control, and rear cross-traffic alert. The 360-degree camera system is standard on the Limited trim and optional for the rest of the lineup.
• Infotainment: The base XL uses a 4.2-inch center-stack screen with audio controls and Bluetooth connectivity. XLT and higher trims get Sync 3 with an 8-inch color touchscreen, intuitive menus, Android Auto, and Apple CarPlay. An available Wi-Fi hotspot and B&O Play premium sound system are also mentioned.
• Fuel efficiency: The diesel returns 22 mpg city, 30 highway, 25 combined with rear-wheel drive and 20 city, 25 highway, 22 combined with 4WD. The 2.7-liter EcoBoost returns 20 mpg city, 26 highway, 22 combined with rear-wheel drive, and the V8 with 4WD returns 16 mpg city, 22 highway, 18 combined.

Which 2019 Ford F-150 trim should I buy?

The 2019 Ford F-150 is offered in 7 trim levels: XL, XLT, Lariat, King Ranch, Platinum, Raptor, and Limited.

Here's the short version:

• XL: This is the work-truck choice, and it makes the most sense if you want the lowest entry point and can live without the nicer cabin and tech found higher up. It’s the trim to skip only if you know you’ll want more comfort, because the feature gap versus the XLT is significant.
• XLT: This is the best-value trim for many shoppers because it adds power windows and locks, the larger 8-inch Sync 3 screen, and a USB port without jumping all the way into luxury pricing. If you want a more livable daily driver, this is the trim that most clearly balances price and equipment.
• Lariat: This is the right step up if you want a more upscale cabin, with leather, heated and ventilated front seats, and satellite radio. It suits you best if comfort matters more than keeping the truck strictly utilitarian.
• King Ranch: This trim leans into luxury-truck personality with its Camel Back upholstery and embroidered interior details. It’s a strong pick if you want a distinctive premium cabin and don’t mind paying for it.
• Platinum: This is the more polished luxury choice, adding wood-panel interior treatment and power-deploying running boards. It’s best if you want a high-end feel with a more restrained look than the King Ranch.
• Raptor: This is the full-fledged off-road performance truck, with a wide-body kit, added underbody armor, and specially designed Fox Racing Shox. Choose it only if that character is what you want, because it’s built around a very specific mission.
• Limited: This is the top luxury trim, with 22-inch polished aluminum wheels, a dual-panel moonroof, dual exhaust, and massaging seats. It’s the one to buy if you want the most feature-rich F-150 and are comfortable paying for it.

The 360-degree camera system is standard on the Limited trim and optional for the rest of the lineup.

Should I buy a 2019 Ford F-150 or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2019 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2019 if:

• 33.7% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 73.2% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 6.61% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.57/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• It adds a new diesel engine option and keeps the truck current with modest updates.

Consider the 2018 if:

• At $23,811, the 2018 costs less than the current year's $25,920 average.
• It’s a highly well-rounded pickup with standout towing and fuel economy.

Consider the 2020 if:

• At $28,027, the 2020 costs more than the current year's $25,920 average.
• It offers a more accommodating modern interior and comfortable road manners.

The bottom line: If you want the best balance of price, features, and broad capability, the 2019 is the sensible default. If you’re especially price-sensitive, the 2018 is the value play; if you want to spend more for a newer-feeling cabin, the 2020 is the upgrade path.
