How much does the 2019 Ford Explorer cost?

Prices have softened 10.24% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.

There are 5,778 listings available, which suggests solid inventory for comparison shopping.

Is the 2019 Ford Explorer a good car?

Yes — the 4.6/5 user rating points to strong owner satisfaction. Owners commonly praise the value for money, powerful engine options, and advanced features, while the Explorer’s roomy, family-oriented layout makes it a practical fit if you want a midsize SUV with real everyday utility. The market also shows 33.8% of listings as good or great deals, which gives you some room to shop selectively.

Is the 2019 Ford Explorer reliable?

Owners rate it 4.6/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

User feedback highlights reliability as one of the Explorer’s strengths, alongside its useful features and strong engine choices. That said, the broader model-year context points to reliability as only average or below average overall, so you should treat maintenance history and condition as especially important on the used market.

For used buyers, the main long-term ownership risk is ending up with a well-equipped SUV that has been worn harder than its mileage suggests.

What should I look for when buying a used 2019 Ford Explorer?

At 71.9% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should start with a vehicle history report to confirm accident records, title status, and service history. After that, prioritize a pre-purchase inspection that focuses on body condition, signs of prior repair, and how well the cabin and electronics have held up. Because this model is often chosen for family duty, pay close attention to wear in the seats, controls, and other high-use areas.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2019 Ford Explorer?

This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, where you can find value if you shop carefully.

• Deal availability: 33.8% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 5,778 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 10.24% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 71.9% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $16,695, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2019 Ford Explorer's resale value?

The current average of $16,695 sits slightly below last year's $18,598.

That price movement suggests the model has already absorbed a meaningful amount of depreciation, which can help future sellers if they buy at the right price today. If you purchase near the lower end of the current range, you may have less downside than someone who paid closer to the prior-year average. Demand should remain supported by the Explorer’s roomy cabin and family-friendly appeal, but resale will still depend heavily on condition and maintenance.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.6/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Should I buy a 2019 Ford Explorer or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2019 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2019 if:

• 33.8% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 71.9% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 10.24% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.6/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.

Consider the 2020 if:

• At $21,615, the 2020 costs more than the current year's $16,695 average.
• It adds an all-new chassis with hybrid and high-performance powertrains.

The bottom line: If you want the better value play, the 2019 is the stronger starting point because it combines lower pricing with solid owner satisfaction and a broad supply of listings. If you’re willing to spend more for the newer redesign and its added performance and tech, the 2020 is the upgrade path; otherwise, the 2019 is the better choice for price-sensitive buyers who still want a roomy, family-friendly SUV.
