What should I look for when buying a used 2019 BMW X7?

Accident-free inventory is solid at 76.4% — always verify the vehicle history report.

You should still run a history report on every candidate and prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially on a large luxury SUV with lots of equipment. Pay close attention to how the second row and third row function, since access and seat adjustment can affect day-to-day usability. It also makes sense to focus on condition, because higher-spec examples can carry a lot of expensive features that you’ll want working properly.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The xDrive40i comes with AWD, an air suspension, 4-zone auto climate control, a panoramic sunroof, adaptive LEDs, and power everything, while the xDrive50i adds the twin-turbo V8, a 16-speaker Harman Kardon stereo, multi-contour front seats, and genuine leather. The xDrive40i is the better value if you want the core luxury and utility without stretching to the pricier engine upgrade.
• Powertrain: The xDrive40i uses a turbocharged 3.0-liter inline-6 with 335 horsepower and 330 pound-feet of torque, while the xDrive50i uses a twin-turbocharged 4.4-liter V8 with 456 hp and 479 lb-ft. The inline-6 is described as smooth and linear, while the V8 delivers stronger thrust and a 5.2-second 0-60 time.
• Safety package: Standard safety equipment includes parking sensors front and rear, forward-collision warning with automatic emergency braking, blind-spot monitoring, and lane-departure warning. The Driving Assistance Pro package adds adaptive cruise with lane-keep and lane-change assist, evasive steering, front cross-traffic alert, and BMW’s automated driving system, while the Parking Assistance package adds a 360-degree camera and automated parking.
• Infotainment: A 12.3-inch touchscreen handles navigation and the updated iDrive interface, and Apple CarPlay is subscription-based. The system can also be updated over the air, and the head-up display is large enough to make traditional gauges almost redundant.
• Fuel efficiency: The xDrive40i returns 20/25/22 mpg, while the xDrive50i is rated at 15/21/17 mpg.

Which 2019 BMW X7 trim should I buy?

The 2019 BMW X7 is offered in 2 trim levels: xDrive40i, xDrive50i.

Here's the short version:

• xDrive40i: This is the smarter starting point if you want the X7’s core luxury, standard AWD, air suspension, panoramic sunroof, adaptive LEDs, and strong six-cylinder performance without paying for the V8 upgrade. It gives you the essential X7 experience and is the best-value choice for most shoppers.
• xDrive50i: Choose this if you want the stronger twin-turbo V8, the upgraded stereo, multi-contour front seats, and genuine leather. It suits you best if performance and a richer standard cabin matter more than keeping the purchase price in check.

The safety content notes that the X7 had not yet been tested by NHTSA or IIHS, so you should weigh its long list of standard and optional safety features accordingly.

• Deal availability: 40.6% of listings are priced as good or great deals.

What is the 2019 BMW X7's resale value?

The current average of $28,653 sits slightly below last year's $33,918.

That price movement suggests the market has already adjusted downward, which can help you buy at a more favorable point in the cycle. For a future seller, that also means resale value will depend heavily on condition, mileage, and how well the vehicle is equipped. Well-kept examples with desirable options should be easier to move than neglected ones, especially in a luxury-SUV segment where buyers compare features closely.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 5/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2019 BMW X7 safe?

The 2019 BMW X7 has yet to be tested by the government’s National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) or the independent Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS).

It earns a 6/10 safety score from our experts.

Standard safety equipment includes parking sensors front and rear, forward-collision warning with automatic emergency braking, blind-spot monitoring, and lane-departure warning. If you want more capability, the Driving Assistance Pro package adds adaptive cruise with lane-keep and lane-change assist, evasive steering, front cross-traffic alert, and BMW’s automated driving system. The Parking Assistance package adds a 360-degree camera and automated parking. The expert notes also flag rollover concerns because of the X7’s height and weight, so that is worth keeping in mind when you shop.

Should I buy a 2019 BMW X7 or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2019 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2019 if:

• 40.6% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Accident-free inventory is solid at 76.4% — always verify the vehicle history report.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 15.52% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 5/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• It arrives as BMW’s first dedicated three-row flagship SUV, giving you a clear family-focused role in the lineup.

The bottom line: The 2019 X7 makes sense if you want the earliest version of BMW’s full-size three-row SUV and you’re comfortable shopping carefully for condition and equipment. If you’re more price-sensitive, a later model year may offer a broader feature set, but the 2019 can still be a smart buy when you find a well-kept example at the right price.
