Summary
With 267 currently listed for sale near Saint Louis, MO and an average price of $26,428, 40.1% of 2019 BMW X5s for sale on CarGurus are rated as good or great deals.
Favorably reviewed: Owners rated the 2019 BMW X5 4.56 / 5 stars and CarGurus experts gave it a 7.83 / 10.

Why it stands out
The 2019 BMW X5 stands out as an all-new version of BMW’s midsize crossover, and its appeal starts with the way it blends car-like handling with SUV practicality. BMW’s original idea for the X5 was to create a vehicle that drove like one of the company’s sport sedans, and this generation continues to lean into that promise. The result is a luxury SUV that aims to feel more engaging on the road than many rivals while still offering the room buyers expect from the segment.
For 2019, the X5 is larger than the previous model, stretching 1 inch longer, 3 inches wider, and 1 inch taller. It also gets a new and bigger kidney grille with active shutters, along with a redesigned interior and an updated version of the iDrive system. Those changes give it a fresher look and a more modern cabin, and the added power and room help strengthen its everyday appeal. At the same time, the technology still lags the segment’s best, and the suite of Level 2 autonomous technology leaves a lot to be desired. Some drivers also noted concerns about electrical issues and the limited size of the back seat, which are worth keeping in mind for long-term ownership.

Tires were worn down and even peeling off on the front right tire. Wheels are aftermarket. Car was clean on the inside, but nor on the outside and faded on plastic parts of vehicle. Compared to others like it, price was high for its condition.

How much does the 2019 BMW X5 cost?
| Metric | Value |
|---|---|
| Current Average Price | $25,148 |
| Year-Round Low | $25,148 |
| Year-Round High | $28,729 |
| Average Price a Year Ago | $28,728 |
| Change vs. Last Year | −12.46% |
Prices have softened 12.46% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.
There are 1,846 listings available, which suggests you have a solid amount of inventory to compare.
Is the 2019 BMW X5 a good car?
Yes — the 2019 BMW X5 earns a 4.56/5 user rating and a 7.83/10 expert rating. The standout strength is Performance at 9/10.
Drivers consistently praise its strong performance, comfort, and luxury features, and the model’s sleek design and advanced technology also come up often in positive feedback. In practical terms, that fits a midsize luxury SUV that aims to give you car-like handling with SUV usefulness, plus enough room for everyday family duty.
The market also looks reasonably supportive, with 35.3% of listings marked as good or great deals.
Is the 2019 BMW X5 reliable?
Owners rate it 4.56/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.
User feedback points to a generally positive ownership experience, with recurring praise for the X5’s dependable feel, strong performance, and comfort. That said, some owners mention electrical issues, so you should treat a clean service history as especially important on a used example.
The powertrain and transmission are described as a strong, trouble-free combination, with smooth operation and consistent power delivery that should inspire confidence over the long term. For used buyers, the main ownership risk is less about day-to-day drivability and more about whether the specific vehicle has been maintained carefully enough to avoid expensive repair surprises.
What should I look for when buying a used 2019 BMW X5?
At 74.5% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
You should start with a vehicle history report and then prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially if the listing price looks unusually attractive. Focus on body condition, signs of prior repair, and whether the vehicle’s equipment and electronics operate as expected, since long-term ownership concerns can be more costly on a luxury SUV like this.
Key things to evaluate:
- Trim level: The base xDrive40i already brings AWD, adaptive LED headlights and foglights, a panoramic sunroof, an adaptive suspension, heated front seats, a power liftgate, ambient lighting, and a digital gauge cluster with a 12.3-inch secondary touchscreen. The M Sport design package adds unique 20-inch wheels, an adaptive M suspension tune, an M steering wheel and aero kit, upgraded leather, four-zone auto climate controls, keyless entry, satellite radio, and roof rails, so it is the better choice if you want a more upscale and sport-focused setup.
- Powertrain: You get a turbocharged 3.0-liter inline 6-cylinder in the xDrive40i or a turbocharged 4.4-liter V8 in the xDrive50i. The inline six is praised for smooth, immediate power and strong efficiency, while the V8 is the choice if you want much quicker acceleration.
- Safety package: The standard safety suite includes adaptive cruise control, automatic emergency braking with pedestrian detection, lane-departure warning, and blind-spot detection with rear cross-traffic alert. The Driving Assistance Plus package adds limited hands-off driving, lane centering, lane changes, and Extended Traffic Jam Assistant, but the expert review says it is not very good at speed.
- Infotainment: The X5 uses an updated iDrive system with a 12.3-inch secondary touchscreen. Available tech includes gesture control, a head-up display, wireless charging, enhanced USB and Bluetooth connectivity, a rear-view camera with 3D view, and Parking Assistant Plus for automatic parallel parking.
- Fuel efficiency: The inline-six powertrain is rated at 20 mpg city, 26 highway, 22 combined.
Which 2019 BMW X5 trim should I buy?
The 2019 BMW X5 is offered in 2 trim levels: xDrive40i, xDrive50i.
Here's the short version:
- xDrive40i: This is the best-value choice because it already gives you the core X5 experience: strong turbocharged inline-six power, AWD, a panoramic sunroof, adaptive suspension, heated front seats, and the full standard safety suite. If you want the X5’s balance of performance, comfort, and price, this is the trim to start with.
- xDrive50i: Choose this if you want the V8 and the extra luxury touches that come with it, including upgraded multi-contour front seats with real leather upholstery and a 16-speaker Harman Kardon stereo. It is the more expensive route, so it makes the most sense if you specifically want more power and a richer standard cabin.
The standard safety suite is already strong on the xDrive40i, so you do not need to move up a trim just to get meaningful driver-assistance coverage.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2019 BMW X5?
This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop carefully and still find worthwhile options.
- Deal availability: 35.3% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 1,846 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 12.46% compared with last year.
- Clean inventory: 74.5% of listings are accident-free.
If you find a listing below $25,148, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2019 BMW X5's resale value?
The current average of $25,148 sits slightly below last year's $28,728.
That decline suggests the market has already adjusted downward, which can help you as a buyer but may temper what a future seller can expect. If you buy at the right price and keep the vehicle in strong condition, you may be better positioned to limit depreciation losses over time.
Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.56/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Is the 2019 BMW X5 safe?
The 2019 BMW X5 earns a Top Safety Pick+ rating from IIHS and a four-star overall rating from NHTSA, with four-star ratings in frontal crash and rollover tests and five-star ratings in side crash tests.
It earns an 8/10 safety score from our experts.
The standard safety suite includes adaptive cruise control, automatic emergency braking with pedestrian detection, lane-departure warning, and blind-spot detection with rear cross-traffic alert. That gives you a solid baseline of driver assistance even before optional tech is added.
One caveat is that the expert review flags the Driving Assistance Plus package as weak at speed, so you should not assume every available semi-autonomous feature is a must-have. If you want the safest-feeling setup, focus on the standard safety equipment and verify that any optional driver-assistance features work properly during your test drive.
Should I buy a 2019 BMW X5 or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2019 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2019 if:
- 35.3% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- At 74.5% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 12.46% compared with last year.
- Owners rate it 4.56/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
- The 2019 model year brings the all-new redesign, with more space, a redesigned interior, and updated iDrive.
The bottom line: If you want the redesigned X5 with strong performance, a good ownership reputation, and a market price that has moved down meaningfully, the 2019 is the right year to target. If you are especially price-sensitive, you may also want to compare it with nearby years to see whether a similar configuration offers a better deal, but the 2019 remains a compelling starting point for shoppers who value the new-generation package.
