How much does the 2019 BMW 3 Series cost?

Prices have softened 6.22% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.

There are 1,376 listings available, which suggests you should have a workable selection to compare.

Is the 2019 BMW 3 Series a good car?

Yes — the 5/5 user rating points to strong owner satisfaction, and the expert score is 8.17/10. The standout strength is Technology at 10/10.

The 2019 BMW 3 Series is framed as a compact sport sedan that stays true to BMW’s traditional formula: trim, athletic, premium, and driver-focused. The overview also emphasizes that BMW’s software leap for this year is a major part of the appeal, while the car itself remains “pretty good” around that tech. That makes it especially appealing if you want a small luxury sedan that balances driving character with a more advanced digital experience.

The market shows 34.2% of listings as good or great deals, which gives you some room to shop selectively.

Is the 2019 BMW 3 Series reliable?

Owners rate it 5/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

The 2019 3 Series is presented as a polished, premium sedan with strong execution, and the expert notes reinforce that impression with praise for its smooth turbocharged engine, refined driving manners, and top-class fit and finish. The performance notes also describe the 2.0-liter turbo four as smooth, full of torque, and sweet-sounding, which supports the idea that the car’s core mechanical package is well sorted. On the ownership side, BMW includes three years or 36,000 miles of maintenance and four years with unlimited miles of roadside assistance, which helps reduce early ownership friction.

For used buyers, the main long-term risk is that a premium, tech-heavy sedan can become expensive if prior maintenance or option-related repairs were skipped.

What should I look for when buying a used 2019 BMW 3 Series?

At 63.6% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should start with a vehicle history report and then prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially on cars with higher equipment levels or accident records. Focus on bodywork quality, electronic features, and signs that the car’s premium systems still operate as intended. Because this model leans heavily on software and optional driver-assistance equipment, you’ll want to confirm that the features you care about are actually present and functioning.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The cabin is driver-focused and premium, but the review notes that some materials are coarse, including the door toppers and dash. The standard setup is simpler than the better-equipped versions, so base cars may feel less special than higher-spec examples.
• Powertrain: The main engine is a 2.0-liter turbocharged inline-4 with 255 horsepower and 295 pound-feet of torque. The review says it is smooth, torquey, and refined, though there is some turbo lag at low speeds.
• Safety package: The Driving Assistance Professional Package adds automatic steering around curves, even on two-lane roads, and the car can also be equipped with blind-spot monitoring, 360-degree cameras, adaptive cruise control, lane-keeping assist, and Traffic Jam Assist. Some of these features are optional rather than standard.
• Infotainment: BMW’s iDrive system is described as superb, with customizable menu tiles, over-the-air updates, and wireless Apple CarPlay. The system also supports remote camera viewing and a digital key through an NFC-equipped smartphone.
• Fuel efficiency: The 330i xDrive is rated at 25 mpg city, 34 highway, and 28 combined. The rear-wheel-drive version is rated at 26/36/30.

Which 2019 BMW 3 Series trim should I buy?

The 2019 BMW 3 Series is offered in 2 trim levels: 330i and M340i.

Here's the short version:

• 330i: This is the trim most shoppers should start with. It delivers the core 3 Series experience, including the smooth turbocharged four-cylinder, strong tech, and the balanced chassis that makes the car feel like a proper BMW. If you want the best value, this is the one to target, especially if you can find it with the right packages rather than moving straight to a pricier build.
• M340i: This is the stronger, more performance-focused choice, with a twin-turbo six-cylinder and near-M3 output. It suits you if you want more speed and are willing to pay for it, but it is not the value pick.

The safety content also notes that the Driving Assistance Professional Package is optional, so check carefully whether a given car has the driver-assistance features you want.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2019 BMW 3 Series?

This is a moderate market, so you can shop selectively without expecting a deep buyer’s-market fire sale.

• Deal availability: 34.2% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 1,376 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 6.22% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 63.6% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $20,182, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2019 BMW 3 Series's resale value?

The current average of $20,304 sits slightly below last year's $21,650.

That decline suggests the market has already adjusted downward, which can help you as a buyer but may limit upside if you plan to resell soon. For a future seller, the softer pricing means condition, mileage, and equipment will matter more than ever when it comes time to list the car. Well-kept examples with desirable tech and clean history should still stand out better than rougher cars.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 5/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2019 BMW 3 Series safe?

The 2019 BMW 3 Series is a Top Safety Pick+ from IIHS, and it earns five-star ratings in all NHTSA tests.

It earns a 9/10 safety score from our experts.

The standard safety equipment includes forward emergency braking and pedestrian detection. Optional driver-assistance features include blind-spot monitoring, 360-degree cameras, adaptive cruise control, lane-keeping assist, and Traffic Jam Assist with evasive steering assist around obstacles. The safety testing also highlights the optional laser headlights as part of the strong IIHS result.

Should I buy a 2019 BMW 3 Series or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2019 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2019 if:

• 34.2% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 63.6% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 6.22% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 5/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• BMW’s software upgrade and strong tech make this year especially compelling.

Consider the 2020 if:

• At $23,720, the 2020 costs more than the current year's $20,304 average.
• It adds a more powerful M340i-focused driving character.

The bottom line: If you want the better value, the 2019 is the smarter buy because it combines a lower average price with strong tech and solid owner satisfaction. If you’re willing to spend more for a newer-feeling performance step-up, the 2020 is the better path.
