Is the 2018 Volvo XC60 a good car?

Yes — the 2018 Volvo XC60 earns a 4.89/5 user rating and an 8.33/10 expert rating. The model scores 10/10 across Look and feel and Safety.

You get a luxury crossover that stands out for its Scandinavian design, luxurious interior, smooth ride, and impressive safety features. It also appeals if you want a family-friendly SUV with comfort and a premium cabin atmosphere rather than something conventional.

38.5% of listings are priced as good or great deals, which suggests there are still worthwhile opportunities in the market.

Is the 2018 Volvo XC60 reliable?

Owners rate it 4.89/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

Drivers repeatedly praise the XC60 for being reliable, comfortable, and a great family choice, and the feedback also points to a dependable ownership experience for many buyers. The expert drive notes that the XC60 is built on an all-new platform and is meant to feel modern and well sorted, while the cost-effectiveness commentary highlights strong value for the safety, technology, and style you get.

That said, used buyers should pay close attention to electronics and higher-mileage wear, since those are the areas most likely to affect long-term ownership risk.

What should I look for when buying a used 2018 Volvo XC60?

Accident-free inventory is solid at 75.2% — always verify the vehicle history report.

You should still run a history report on any candidate, even if the listing looks clean at first glance. Prioritize a pre-purchase inspection that checks electronics, driver-assistance functions, and overall cabin condition, since those are the kinds of issues that can matter most on a used luxury crossover. Focus on how well the interior systems work and whether the vehicle feels properly maintained, especially if the mileage is higher.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: Base-trim equipment is already strong, with a panoramic sunroof, active safety features, 18-inch wheels, and a 10-way power driver’s seat. Higher trims add more technology, more aggressive styling, 19-inch wheels, stitched leather trim, chrome accents, and optional driftwood inlays.
• Powertrain: You get a 2.0-liter turbocharged 4-cylinder with standard all-wheel drive and an 8-speed automatic. The T5 makes 250 hp and 258 lb-ft of torque, the T6 adds a supercharger for 316 hp and 295 lb-ft of torque, and the T8 plug-in hybrid combines gas and electric power for 400 hp and 472 lb-ft of torque.
• Safety package: Volvo’s City Safety package is standard, with automatic braking or steering intervention at low speeds and braking help at higher speeds. Oncoming Lane Mitigation is also new for this year, while blind-spot detection and lane-keep assist are part of the Vision package.
• Infotainment: Every XC60 gets a 9-inch Sensus touchscreen, and Apple CarPlay and Android Auto come standard. The system is highly customizable, but the menu structure can be confusing and distracting.
• Fuel efficiency: The T8 plug-in hybrid can travel up to 17 miles on electric power alone and is supposed to return a combined 26 mpg. The T6 Momentum with the Convenience Package is described as getting around 23 mpg combined.

Which 2018 Volvo XC60 trim should I buy?

The 2018 Volvo XC60 is offered in 3 trim levels: Momentum, R-Design, Inscription.

Here's the short version:

• Momentum: This is the best-value choice if you want the core XC60 experience without stretching the budget. It already gives you the panoramic sunroof, active safety features, 18-inch wheels, and a power driver’s seat, so you’re not giving up the essentials.
• R-Design: Choose this if you want more technology and a sportier look, plus 19-inch wheels. It’s the step up for buyers who care more about style and added features than absolute value.
• Inscription: This is the most upscale version, with stitched leather trim, chrome accents, and available driftwood inlays. It’s the right pick if you want the most premium cabin presentation.

Blind-spot detection and lane-keep assist are optional and must be ordered with the Vision package.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2018 Volvo XC60?

This is a moderate market for selective buyers, so you can shop carefully and still find value.

• Deal availability: 38.5% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 686 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 9.25% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 75.2% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $17,598, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2018 Volvo XC60's resale value?

The current average of $17,598 sits slightly below last year's $19,392.

That price movement suggests the XC60 has already absorbed some depreciation, which can help future sellers if the market stabilizes. If you buy well now and keep the vehicle in strong condition, you may be starting from a more favorable value position than a buyer who paid closer to last year’s average. The current pricing also indicates that demand is still present, but buyers are being selective.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.89/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2018 Volvo XC60 safe?

The 2018 Volvo XC60 earns an Insurance Institute for Highway Safety Top Safety Pick + rating.

It earns a 10/10 safety score from our experts.

Every XC60 comes standard with Volvo’s City Safety package, which can stop the car or steer it away from potential collisions with pedestrians, bikes, and other cars at low speeds, and can also apply the brakes at higher speeds to help lessen crash impact. New for this year is Oncoming Lane Mitigation, and Pilot Assist II can steer, keep the vehicle between lane lines, and adjust speed to match traffic at speeds up to 80 mph. Blind-spot detection and lane-keep assist are available through the Vision package.

Should I buy a 2018 Volvo XC60 or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2018 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2018 if:

• 38.5% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Accident-free inventory is solid at 75.2% — always verify the vehicle history report.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 9.25% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.89/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• The 2018 XC60 is a thoroughly redesigned model with an all-new platform, a distinct look and feel, and strong safety and technology appeal.

The bottom line: If you want the newer-generation XC60 with standout safety, style, and tech, the 2018 is the right year to target. If your priority is stretching your budget, you can still shop carefully and look for a lower-priced listing, but the 2018 makes the most sense when you want the redesigned model’s premium feel and are willing to pay for it.
