CarGurus Analysis: 2018 Toyota Tacoma

Summary
With 3,402 currently listed for sale and an average price of $27,610.00, 30.9% of 2018 Toyota Tacomas for sale on CarGurus are rated as good or great deals.
Favorably reviewed: Owners rated the 2018 Toyota Tacoma 4.62 / 5 stars.
65.7% of 2018 Tacoma models on CarGurus are accident free.
Why it stands out
The 2018 Toyota Tacoma stands out as a midsize truck that blends strong off-road ability with a long-running reputation for reliability. It sits in a sweet spot for buyers who want a pickup that is still nimble enough for daily driving but capable enough for active lifestyles, and it has long been known for holding its value well. That said, it is also expensive relative to comparable pickups, which is part of the Tacoma’s appeal and part of its drawback.
For 2018, the Tacoma benefits from the third generation’s broad mix of cab and bed choices, including Access Cab and Double Cab body styles with five-foot and six-foot beds. It also gets the generation’s standard 2.7-liter four-cylinder engine, which makes 159 horsepower and 180 pound-feet of torque, plus the available 3.5-liter V6 with 278 horsepower and 265 pound-feet of torque. Toyota Safety Sense was made standard in 2018 and brought forward-collision warning, forward-collision avoidance, lane-departure warning, adaptive cruise control, automatic high beams, and more, giving this truck a stronger safety story than many rivals of its era.
The 2018 Tacoma is not perfect, though. The base engine is described as painfully underpowered, and the crew cab is cramped even by small-truck standards. Still, for shoppers who value durability, off-road capability, and a well-equipped safety package, the 2018 Tacoma remains a compelling used-truck choice.

This was a great option for an affordable family vehicle. We loved that it was ready for camping. The price was right, it was just too far away.

Love the tacoma. Roomy but still mid-sized for economy and hauling smaller items. Love the body style, looks, and dependability!!

Great small truck. Limited tow capability until the TRD sport. Expensive but hopefully long lived.

The car has met my expectations. This is my second Tacoma LTD and it is a very nice truck. It is good value. The truck could use power seats which are available in Tacomas after 2018.

If you find a listing below $26,846.90, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
Is the 2018 Toyota Tacoma a good car?
Yes — the 4.62/5 user rating points to strong owner satisfaction. Owners consistently praise its reliability, comfort, and good fuel economy, and many also like the smooth ride and ample cargo space. For you, that makes it a strong fit if you want a midsize truck that can handle daily driving while still offering rugged capability. With 30.8% of listings marked as good or great deals, there are still worthwhile opportunities if you shop carefully.
Is the 2018 Toyota Tacoma reliable?
Owners rate it 4.62/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.
The owner feedback repeatedly highlights reliability, and the same reviews also describe it as dependable and trouble-free over time. That kind of long-term confidence matters if you want a used truck you can count on for regular use. For used buyers, the main ownership risk is paying too much for a truck that has not been maintained or inspected carefully.
What should I look for when buying a used 2018 Toyota Tacoma?
At 62.5% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
You should start with a vehicle history report so you can separate clean examples from trucks with prior damage. After that, prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially if the listing price looks unusually attractive. Focus your condition check on signs of past repairs, uneven wear, and anything that suggests the truck has had a harder life than the photos imply.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2018 Toyota Tacoma?

If you find a listing below $26,846.90, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2018 Toyota Tacoma's resale value?
The current average of $27,615 sits slightly below last year's $28,302.
That softer pricing can help you buy at a more favorable entry point today, but it also means future resale gains may depend more on condition and mileage than on broad market appreciation. If you keep the truck clean, well maintained, and accident-free, you give yourself a better chance of holding value when it’s time to sell. Strong demand for well-kept examples should continue to support pricing.
Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.62/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Should I buy a 2018 Toyota Tacoma or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2018 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2018 if:
- 30.8% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- At 62.5% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 2.43% compared with last year.
- Owners rate it 4.62/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
Consider the 2019 if:
- At $29,679, the 2019 costs more than the current year's $27,615 average.
- It adds a 3.5-liter V6 with 278 horsepower and up to 6,800 pounds of towing.
The bottom line: If you want the better value play, the 2018 is the stronger starting point because pricing has eased and there are still plenty of listings to compare. If you’re willing to spend more for added power and towing capability, the 2019 is the better secondary path for buyers who prioritize performance over price.
