How much does the 2018 Subaru Crosstrek cost?

Prices have softened 4.22% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.

There are 1,911 listings available, which suggests you have a meaningful amount of inventory to compare.

Is the 2018 Subaru Crosstrek a good car?

Generally — the 2018 Subaru Crosstrek earns a 4.2/5 user rating and a 7.33/10 expert rating, which points to a well-liked used crossover with broad appeal. The model scores 9/10 across Technology and Safety.

Owners consistently praise its quality, safety features, and smooth driving experience, with the EyeSight system drawing especially strong approval. The overview also frames it as a practical, high-riding wagon with real versatility and capability, which fits shoppers who want everyday utility, safety, and a tougher look more than outright speed. At the same time, the user feedback notes that the 2.0-liter engine can feel underpowered, so the Crosstrek makes the most sense if you value confidence and usefulness over performance. The market shows 34.0% good or great deals, which gives you some room to shop selectively.

Is the 2018 Subaru Crosstrek reliable?

Owners rate it 4.2/5, a solid signal of long-term satisfaction.

User feedback points to a dependable, solid-feeling vehicle that many owners feel good about living with over time. The expert drive notes also emphasize that Subaru improved the CVT and that the Crosstrek feels composed rather than brittle, which supports the impression of a trouble-free daily driver. The cost-effectiveness notes reinforce that it feels like a good deal for the money, especially given its safety and utility. For used buyers, the main long-term ownership risk is making sure the drivetrain and overall condition match the car’s reputation, since a neglected example can erase the benefits of its strong durability story.

What should I look for when buying a used 2018 Subaru Crosstrek?

At 66.3% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should start with a vehicle history report and then prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially if the listing price looks unusually attractive. Focus on body condition, signs of prior repair, and whether the car’s equipment matches the trim level being advertised. Because this model is often bought for its practicality and all-weather use, it’s worth checking for wear that could come from harder use in rough weather or on imperfect roads.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The Base trim comes with 17-inch alloy wheels, integrated roof rails, manual seats, power windows, a 60/40 split-fold rear bench, and the 6.5-inch StarLink system, while the Premium adds fog lights, heated front seats, a windshield-wiper deicer, heated side mirrors, a leather-wrapped steering wheel, cloth seats with orange stitching, auto on/off headlights, and a six-speaker stereo. The Limited adds leather seats, automatic climate control, an 8-inch StarLink screen, 18-inch alloy wheels, keyless entry with push-button start, and LED headlights that turn with the steering wheel.
• Powertrain: The Crosstrek uses a 2.0-liter 4-cylinder engine with 152 horsepower and 145 pound-feet of torque, paired with either a 6-speed manual or a CVT and all-wheel drive. The manual is standard on Base and Premium, while the CVT is standard on Limited and available on the lower trims.
• Safety package: EyeSight is the named driver-assistance suite, and it includes forward-collision avoidance, lane-departure warning, adaptive cruise control, lane-keeping assist, and sway warning. Automatic high beams, blind-spot detection with rear cross-traffic alert, and reverse automatic braking are also available, with some features depending on trim or option package.
• Infotainment: Base and Premium trims use a 6.5-inch touchscreen, while the Limited gets an 8-inch screen. The system supports Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and the interface is described as easy to use.
• Fuel efficiency: With the manual transmission, fuel economy is 23 mpg city, 29 highway, 25 combined. With the CVT, it improves to 29 city, 33 highway, 29 combined.

Which 2018 Subaru Crosstrek trim should I buy?

The 2018 Subaru Crosstrek is offered in 3 trim levels: Base, Premium, and Limited.

Here's the short version:

• Base: This is the simplest way into the Crosstrek, and it gives you the core rugged look, roof rails, and the 6.5-inch StarLink system. It makes sense if you want the lowest entry price and are comfortable with a more basic cabin.
• Premium: This is the best-value trim for most shoppers because it adds the comfort and convenience features that make daily use easier, including heated front seats, fog lights, a leather-wrapped steering wheel, and a better stereo. If you want the sweet spot between price and equipment, this is the one to target.
• Limited: This trim is the most upscale, with leather seats, automatic climate control, an 8-inch screen, keyless entry with push-button start, and LED headlights that turn with the steering wheel. It suits you if you want the most polished version of the Crosstrek and are willing to pay more for it.

X-Mode and Hill Descent Control are optional on Base and Premium and standard on Limited, so the higher trim gives you the most complete trail-friendly setup.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2018 Subaru Crosstrek?

The market looks selective rather than overheated, so you can shop with some leverage if you stay patient and compare listings carefully.

• Deal availability: 34.0% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 1,911 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 4.22% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 66.3% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $15,475, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2018 Subaru Crosstrek's resale value?

The current average of $15,896 sits slightly below last year's $16,596.

That decline suggests the market has become a bit more buyer-friendly, which can help you if you're shopping now but may temper what you can expect later as a seller. The current pricing range also shows that values are still holding within a fairly tight band, which is a sign of steady demand rather than a sharp drop. If you keep the car in clean condition and avoid accident history, you should be in a better position to protect value when it’s time to sell.

Vehicles with solid owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.2/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2018 Subaru Crosstrek safe?

The 2018 Subaru Crosstrek earns a Top Safety Pick rating from IIHS.

It earns a 9/10 safety score from our experts.

The Crosstrek comes standard with a full array of front and side impact airbags, a reversing camera, tire pressure monitoring, LATCH child-seat anchors, and vehicle dynamics control with traction control. EyeSight adds forward-collision avoidance, lane-departure warning, adaptive cruise control, lane-keeping assist, and sway warning, while automatic high beams, blind-spot detection with rear cross-traffic alert, and reverse automatic braking are also available. Some of those features depend on trim or option package, so you should confirm exactly what’s fitted on the listing you’re considering.

Should I buy a 2018 Subaru Crosstrek or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2018 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2018 if:

• 34.0% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 66.3% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 4.22% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.2/5 — a solid satisfaction signal.
• The 2018 model is the first full redesign, and the expert summary highlights it as a durable, versatile Crosstrek that backs up its outdoorsy image with real capability.

The bottom line: The 2018 is a strong choice if you want the redesigned Crosstrek with a good mix of safety, utility, and current-market value. If you’re especially price-sensitive, you may want to compare it with nearby years to see whether a lower-priced example offers the equipment and condition you need, but the 2018 remains the better pick if you want the refreshed design and a more refined take on the formula.
