How much does the 2018 Subaru Crosstrek cost?

Prices have softened 3.60% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.

There are 1,885 listings available, which gives you a solid pool of options to compare.

Is the 2018 Subaru Crosstrek a good car?

Generally — you’re looking at a 4.2/5 user rating and a 7.3/10 expert rating, which points to a well-liked used crossover with broad appeal. The model scores 9/10 across Technology and Safety.

Owners consistently praise its quality, safety features, and smooth driving experience, and the review summary also highlights the solid feel of the car and its advanced safety systems. That lines up with the Crosstrek’s practical, outdoorsy positioning: it’s built for buyers who want capability, safety, and everyday usefulness more than outright speed. The market also shows 31.9% of listings as good or great deals, which suggests there are still worthwhile opportunities if you shop carefully.

Is the 2018 Subaru Crosstrek reliable?

Owners rate it 4.2/5, a solid signal of long-term satisfaction.

The review summary points to a dependable, trouble-free ownership experience for many drivers, with strong marks for quality and safety. The expert evaluation also emphasizes that Subaru backs up the Crosstrek’s rugged image with real-world practicality and composure, which supports confidence in day-to-day use. The main long-term ownership risk for used buyers is the possibility of getting a higher-mileage example that has been used hard or not maintained consistently, so condition and service history matter.

What should I look for when buying a used 2018 Subaru Crosstrek?

At 66.7% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should start with a vehicle history report and then prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially if you’re considering a lower-priced example. Focus on overall condition, signs of prior bodywork, and whether the car’s equipment matches the trim level you expect. Because this model is often chosen for utility and all-weather use, it’s worth checking for wear that could come from rougher driving or frequent outdoor use.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The Base trim comes with 17-inch alloy wheels, integrated roof rails, manual seats, power windows, a 60/40 split-fold rear bench, and the 6.5-inch StarLink infotainment system, while the Premium adds fog lights, heated front seats, a windshield-wiper deicer, heated side mirrors, a leather-wrapped steering wheel, cloth seats with orange stitching, auto on/off headlights, and a six-speaker stereo. The Limited adds leather seats, automatic climate control, an 8-inch StarLink screen, 18-inch alloy wheels, keyless entry with push-button start, and LED headlights that turn with the steering wheel.
• Powertrain: The 2.0-liter horizontally opposed four-cylinder makes 152 horsepower and 145 pound-feet of torque, and you can get either a 6-speed manual or a CVT with all-wheel drive. Fuel economy is 23 mpg city and 29 highway with the manual, or 29 city and 33 highway with the CVT.
• Safety package: EyeSight is the named driver-assistance suite, and it brings forward-collision avoidance, lane-departure warning, adaptive cruise control, lane-keeping assist, and sway warning. Standard safety equipment also includes front and side impact airbags, a reversing camera, tire pressure monitoring, LATCH child-seat anchors, and vehicle dynamics control with traction control. Automatic high beams, blind-spot detection with rear cross-traffic alert, and reverse automatic braking are available, and EyeSight is not standard on every trim.
• Infotainment: Base and Premium trims use a 6.5-inch touchscreen, while the Limited gets an 8-inch screen. The system supports Apple CarPlay and Android Auto through the phone connection described in the test-drive notes.
• Fuel efficiency: With the manual transmission, the Crosstrek returns 23 mpg city and 29 highway, while the CVT improves that to 29 city and 33 highway. The test-drive notes also mention a real-world result of 31 mpg during evaluation.

Which 2018 Subaru Crosstrek trim should I buy?

The 2018 Subaru Crosstrek is offered in 3 trim levels: Base, Premium, and Limited.

Here's the short version:

• Base: This is the simplest way into the Crosstrek, and it gives you the core rugged look, roof rails, and the basic StarLink system. It makes sense if you want the lowest entry price and plan to add only what you need.
• Premium: This is the best-value trim for most shoppers because it adds the comfort and convenience features that make the Crosstrek easier to live with every day, including heated front seats, fog lights, and the upgraded stereo.
• Limited: This is the right pick if you want the most upscale version, with leather seats, the larger 8-inch screen, keyless entry with push-button start, and LED headlights.

EyeSight is available on the Crosstrek, so it’s worth prioritizing a trim or package that includes it if safety tech is high on your list.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2018 Subaru Crosstrek?

This is a moderate market for selective buyers, so you can shop with some leverage if you’re patient.

• Deal availability: 31.9% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 1,885 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 3.60% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 66.7% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $15,472, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2018 Subaru Crosstrek's resale value?

The current average of $15,839 sits slightly below last year's $16,431.

That decline suggests the market has softened a bit, which can help you as a buyer today but may temper what you can expect later as a seller. If prices continue to ease, resale values may stay under pressure in the near term. On the other hand, a model with strong demand and a reputation for satisfying owners can still hold up better than average when it’s clean, well maintained, and properly equipped.

Vehicles with solid owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.2/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2018 Subaru Crosstrek safe?

The 2018 Subaru Crosstrek earns a 9/10 safety score from our experts.

It comes standard with front and side impact airbags, a reversing camera, tire pressure monitoring, LATCH child-seat anchors, and vehicle dynamics control with traction control. EyeSight is the named driver-assistance suite, and it adds forward-collision avoidance, lane-departure warning, adaptive cruise control, lane-keeping assist, and sway warning. You can also get automatic high beams, blind-spot detection with rear cross-traffic alert, and reverse automatic braking, though those features are not standard on every trim.

Should I buy a 2018 Subaru Crosstrek or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2018 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2018 if:

• 31.9% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 66.7% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 3.60% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.2/5 — a solid satisfaction signal.
• The 2018 model is the first full redesign for the Crosstrek, with a stronger focus on evolving the formula buyers already liked.

The bottom line: If you want the redesigned Crosstrek with strong safety, useful capability, and a broad used-car inventory, the 2018 is the primary year to target. If you’re especially price-sensitive, you may also want to compare nearby years to see whether a lower entry price outweighs the 2018’s redesign and feature improvements.

How does the 2018 Subaru Crosstrek compare to the 2018 Honda HR-V?

Our experts score the 2018 Subaru Crosstrek 7.3/10 and the 2018 Honda HR-V 6.7/10.

The Crosstrek comes across as the more capable and better-rounded choice if you want standard all-wheel drive, stronger safety tech, and a more rugged personality. The HR-V has a lower starting price and better city/highway fuel economy on paper, but the Crosstrek offers more power, more listings to shop from, and a stronger expert score.
