Is the 2018 Nissan Rogue reliable?

The owner feedback also points to a dependable, trouble-free ownership experience centered on comfort, spaciousness, and good safety features. The expert review describes it as a practical crossover that many buyers can count on for everyday use, even if its driving character is not especially exciting.

The main long-term ownership risk for used buyers is making sure the vehicle has been maintained well and still feels solid, since condition matters more when you’re shopping a high-volume crossover.

What should I look for when buying a used 2018 Nissan Rogue?

At 55% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should start with a vehicle history report and then prioritize a close inspection of body panels, paint consistency, and signs of prior repair. It also makes sense to focus on how the cabin, electronics, and driver-assist features function, since this model’s appeal depends heavily on comfort and technology.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The S trim is the entry point, while the SL adds a more upscale interior with padded leather trim on the center console, armrests, and dash, plus ribbed stitching on the seat inserts. Lower-grade trims use darker colors, smaller wheels, and plain all-black cloth interiors, so you should expect a more basic look and feel at the bottom of the range.
• Powertrain: Every trim uses a 2.5-liter inline 4-cylinder engine with 170 horsepower and 175 pound-feet of torque, paired with a continuously variable transmission and either front-wheel drive or all-wheel drive. The tradeoff is that the engine is weak, loud, and rough, even though the transmission does a decent job of keeping it in its power band.
• Safety package: ProPilot Assist is Nissan’s semi-autonomous driving system, and it works with adaptive cruise control to help steer on gentle highway curves and some divided roads. Blind-spot monitoring is standard, Intelligent Trace Control is standard, and 360-degree AroundView cameras are available on lower trims. ProPilot Assist is limited to the SL with both the Premium and Platinum packages.
• Infotainment: Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are standard, and Nissan redesigned the system for 2018 with a more usable interface, a customizable home screen, and a smartphone app connection for walking directions. NissanConnect also adds telematics support such as remote unlocking and automatic 911 notifications.
• Fuel efficiency: FWD models are rated at 26 mpg city and 33 highway, while AWD models are rated at 25/32. The test vehicle averaged 24 mpg.

Which 2018 Nissan Rogue trim should I buy?

The 2018 Nissan Rogue is offered in 4 trim levels: S, SV, Midnight Edition, SL.

Here's the short version:

• S: This is the least expensive way into the Rogue, and it makes sense if you want the model’s core strengths — comfort, space, and standard tech — without paying for extras you may not need.
• SV: This is the best-value trim for most shoppers because it sits in the sweet spot for pricing while still keeping the Rogue’s comfort, space, and technology advantages within reach.
• Midnight Edition: This is an SV with a blacked-out look, so it mainly suits you if appearance matters more than added capability.
• SL: This is the trim to choose if you want the most upscale cabin and the available ProPilot Assist system, but it costs significantly more and is aimed at buyers who want the most advanced equipment.

ProPilot Assist is only available on the SL with both the Premium and Platinum packages.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2018 Nissan Rogue?

This is a moderate market for selective buyers, so it pays to compare listings carefully and move quickly on the best examples.

• Deal availability: 31.5% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 3,434 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 7.53% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 55.0% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $12,548, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2018 Nissan Rogue's resale value?

The current average of $12,548 sits slightly below last year's $13,569.

That decline suggests the Rogue has become more affordable for used buyers, but it also means a future seller may face some price pressure if the market stays soft. If you buy well and keep the vehicle in strong condition, you can help protect your exit value later. The model’s broad appeal and strong owner satisfaction should continue to support demand.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.55/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2018 Nissan Rogue safe?

The 2018 Nissan Rogue earns a Top Safety Pick rating from IIHS and a four-star overall rating from NHTSA. It scored five-star ratings in side crash tests, while frontal crash tests scored three-star for the front passenger and four-star for the driver.

It earns a 7/10 safety score from our experts.

The standard safety suite includes blind-spot monitoring, Intelligent Trace Control, and Nissan’s ProPilot Assist system on the SL with the Premium and Platinum packages. ProPilot Assist works with adaptive cruise control and can help steer on gentle highway curves and some divided roads.

One caveat is that the driver-assist technology is not available across the whole lineup, so you need to shop carefully if that feature matters to you.

Should I buy a 2018 Nissan Rogue or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2018 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2018 if:

• 31.5% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 55% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 7.53% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.55/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• Expert or safety highlight specific to this year from the summary: it adds automated driver assists that rival the best from luxury automakers.

The bottom line: The 2018 Rogue makes the most sense if you want a roomy, comfortable crossover with strong tech and a softer used-car price. If you’re especially price-sensitive, you can still shop nearby years, but the 2018 stands out for its combination of value, safety, and available driver assistance.
