CarGurus Analysis: 2018 Mercedes-Benz S-Class
Summary
With 214 currently listed for sale and an average price of $26,347, 38.8% of 2018 Mercedes-Benz S-Class listings on CarGurus are rated as good or great deals.
Favorably reviewed: Owners rated the 2018 Mercedes-Benz S-Class 4.79 / 5 stars.

Why it stands out
The 2018 Mercedes-Benz S-Class stands out as a flagship luxury sedan that blends advanced technology with the kind of craftsmanship Mercedes-Benz has long used to define the nameplate. For this model year, it sits in the W222 generation, which brought a new aluminum hybrid body shell that cut weight and improved rigidity, along with a cabin that made liberal use of wood and metal accents. It also featured selectable ambient lighting, and Mercedes’ digital interface and infotainment system appeared on two 12.3-inch screens under a single panel, giving the interior a modern look while still retaining many physical controls.
What makes the 2018 model especially appealing is how much equipment and engineering it packs into a single car. The lineup included the S 560 with a 4.0-liter V8 making 463 horsepower and 516 pound-feet of torque, and the S 560e plug-in hybrid with 469 system horsepower and 30 miles of electric range. The generation also offered features such as magic body control, a surround-view camera system, and advanced safety and driver-assist systems, though many of those remained part of option packages. Buyers looking at this car are drawn to its quiet, opulent feel and strong performance, but they should also expect high running costs and a price that places it firmly in the expensive end of the market.
At the same time, the 2018 Mercedes-Benz S-Class is not a car that hides its size or its complexity. It is costly to buy, maintain, fuel, and insure, and even in this generation some of the best features were optional rather than standard. Still, for shoppers who want a large luxury sedan with a reputation for innovation, a richly finished interior, and a broad mix of comfort and performance, the 2018 S-Class remains one of the most distinctive choices in its class.

How much does the 2018 Mercedes-Benz S-Class cost?
| Metric | Value |
|---|---|
| Current Average Price | $34,295 |
| Year-Round Low | $33,595 |
| Year-Round High | $37,043 |
| Average Price a Year Ago | $36,711 |
| Change vs. Last Year | −6.58% |
Prices have softened 6.58% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.
There are 675 listings available, which gives you a meaningful amount of inventory to compare.
Is the 2018 Mercedes-Benz S-Class a good car?
Yes — the 2018 Mercedes-Benz S-Class earns a 4.79/5 user rating, which points to strong owner satisfaction. Drivers consistently praise its luxurious interior, advanced technology, and smooth performance, and they also highlight the high-quality craftsmanship and spacious cabin. For you, that means this model fits especially well if you want a flagship luxury sedan with a quiet, opulent feel and a strong emphasis on comfort and refinement. With 35.4% of listings marked as good or great deals, there is also a decent amount of market opportunity if you shop carefully.
Is the 2018 Mercedes-Benz S-Class reliable?
Owners rate it 4.79/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.
Drivers describe the car as smooth, refined, and well built, with praise centered on its craftsmanship and the way it delivers a premium experience over time. That kind of feedback suggests the ownership experience can be rewarding if you stay ahead of maintenance and buy a well-kept example. For used buyers, the main long-term risk is that a complex luxury sedan can become expensive if prior care was inconsistent.
What should I look for when buying a used 2018 Mercedes-Benz S-Class?
At 62.2% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
You should start with a vehicle history report so you can separate clean examples from cars with collision records or repeated claims. A pre-purchase inspection should be a priority, especially because this is a complex luxury sedan where repairs can be costly. Focus closely on overall condition, service history, and signs that the car has been maintained consistently rather than just looking at mileage alone.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2018 Mercedes-Benz S-Class?
This is a selective buyer’s market, so you can be choosy if you’re willing to compare listings carefully.
- Deal availability: 35.4% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 675 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 6.58% compared with last year.
- Clean inventory: 62.2% of listings are accident-free.
If you find a listing below $33,595, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2018 Mercedes-Benz S-Class's resale value?
The current average of $34,295 sits slightly below last year's $36,711.
That price movement suggests the market has already adjusted downward, which can help you buy with less risk of immediate depreciation pressure. If you plan to resell later, a lower entry price can improve your odds of holding value better than if you bought near the top of the range. Strong demand for well-kept luxury sedans can still support future pricing, especially when the car presents well and has a clean history.
Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.79/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Should I buy a 2018 Mercedes-Benz S-Class or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2018 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2018 if:
- 35.4% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- At 62.2% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 6.58% compared with last year.
- Owners rate it 4.79/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
The bottom line: If you want the best balance of current pricing and owner satisfaction, the 2018 is the primary year to target. It gives you a strong mix of market softness and positive owner feedback, which makes it appealing if you’re shopping for a flagship luxury sedan now. If you’re especially price-sensitive, focus on the cleanest examples with the lowest asking prices, since condition and history matter more than chasing the absolute cheapest listing.
