Summary

Why it stands out
The 2018 Mercedes-Benz GLA stands out as a compact luxury crossover that blends a sleek shape with useful updates. For 2018, it received updated styling front and rear, a redesigned gauge cluster, chrome interior highlights, and a standard 8-inch infotainment screen. It also added a rear-view camera as standard equipment, which helped strengthen its appeal as a small premium SUV with a more modern cabin and better everyday usability.
It was still offered with the same basic formula that defined the first-generation GLA: a turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder with 208 hp and 258 lb-ft of torque in GLA 250 models, plus front-wheel drive or all-wheel drive. The model also kept its dual-clutch automatic transmission, and the GLA 45 AMG remained the high-performance alternative for buyers who wanted much more power. That mix of efficiency, available traction, and AMG performance gave the GLA a broader personality than many small crossovers.
The tradeoff is space. The first-generation GLA’s rakish rear design limited cargo room, and the model was never especially roomy inside. Even so, it offered desirable safety equipment, including a driver-attention monitor and automatic emergency braking, and owners often praise its technology, comfort, and upscale feel. For buyers who want a premium badge, strong features, and a compact footprint, the 2018 Mercedes-Benz GLA has a distinctive appeal.

I bought the car 3 years ago and have had zero problems with it. The only issue was the factory hp of 208 was marginal. I had that fixed by getting a professional performance stage 2 tune to about 300 hp. The AMG version of the GLA uses the same 2 liter turbo engine and is rated at 375 hp. I recently drove a 2018 AMG version and I can say its not that much faster than my re-tuned GLA 250. The MSRP difference is over $20k and my tune cost $1k.

I love my new car. The handing is amazing. The luxury feeling without the luxury price is amazing. I love the look. It’s compact but big enough for me and my two older kids. Seriously I love it.

Yes — the 2018 Mercedes-Benz GLA earns a 5/5 user rating, which points to strong owner satisfaction. Owners consistently praise its technology, safety, and comfort, and many also like its smooth performance and upscale feel. That makes it a good fit if you want a compact luxury crossover with a premium badge, useful features, and a smaller footprint. With 33.7% of listings marked as good or great deals, you have some room to shop selectively.
Is the 2018 Mercedes-Benz GLA reliable?
Owners rate it 5/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.
The owner feedback also emphasizes that it feels dependable and trouble-free in everyday use, especially for shoppers who value comfort and technology over maximum utility. For used buyers, the main long-term ownership risk is less about the core driving experience and more about making sure the specific vehicle has been well maintained and kept in good condition.
What should I look for when buying a used 2018 Mercedes-Benz GLA?
At 57.8% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
You should start with a vehicle history report so you can separate clean examples from cars with prior damage or repeated claims. After that, prioritize a thorough pre-purchase inspection, with extra attention to bodywork, panel alignment, and signs of uneven wear that could point to past repairs. Because this model is compact and premium-focused, condition matters a lot, so you should also check that the cabin, electronics, and visibility-related features all work as expected.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2018 Mercedes-Benz GLA?
This is a moderate market, so you can shop selectively without expecting a deep buyer’s market.
- Deal availability: 33.7% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 585 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 9.47% compared with last year.
- Clean inventory: 57.8% of listings are accident-free.
If you find a listing below $14,581, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2018 Mercedes-Benz GLA's resale value?
The current average of $14,581 sits slightly below last year's $16,106.
That price movement suggests the model has already absorbed some depreciation, which can help a future seller if you buy at the right price today. If you choose a well-kept example with strong equipment and clean history, you may be better positioned to hold value than if you overpay for a higher-mileage or accident-affected listing. The compact luxury crossover format and strong owner satisfaction can also help keep demand steady.
Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 5/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Should I buy a 2018 Mercedes-Benz GLA or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2018 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2018 if:
- 33.7% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- At 57.8% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 9.47% compared with last year.
- Owners rate it 5/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
The bottom line:
The 2018 is the better pick if you want the updated styling, standard 8-inch screen, and rear-view camera while shopping a model year with softened prices. If your priority is finding the lowest entry price, a nearby year may be worth comparing, but the 2018 gives you a strong mix of features, owner satisfaction, and current market value.
