How much does the 2018 Mercedes-Benz E-Class cost?

Prices have softened 9.04% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.

There are 1,297 listings available, which gives you a solid pool of options to compare.

Is the 2018 Mercedes-Benz E-Class a good car?

Yes — the 2018 Mercedes-Benz E-Class earns a 4.76/5 user rating and an 8/10 expert rating. The model scores 10/10 across Technology and Safety.

Owners consistently praise the smooth ride, luxurious interior, powerful performance, advanced features, and elegant styling. That lines up with the overview: you’re shopping a midsize luxury car that prioritizes refinement and a premium experience over bargain pricing.

With 37.6% of listings marked as good or great deals, the market still gives you some room to shop selectively.

Is the 2018 Mercedes-Benz E-Class reliable?

Owners rate it 4.76/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

The owner summary points to a car that feels smooth, luxurious, and powerful, while also describing it as a vehicle many buyers enjoy living with over time. The expert driving notes reinforce that sense of composure, describing the car as calm, noise-proof, and built for relaxed driving.

The ownership tradeoff is that maintenance costs can become a concern after the warranty period, so a used example with a clean service history is the safer long-term bet.

What should I look for when buying a used 2018 Mercedes-Benz E-Class?

At 60.8% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should start with a vehicle history report and then prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially if you’re considering a higher-mileage or heavily optioned car. Focus on signs of wear, repair quality, and whether the car’s luxury features still work as intended, since this model’s appeal depends heavily on refinement and equipment.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The E-Class lineup includes sedan, wagon, coupe, and AMG versions, and the Luxury Line is available only on the E300/E400 sedan and E400 wagon. Base versions can miss the more understated Luxury Line look, which swaps in the classic thin-lined grille and standing hood ornament.
• Powertrain: The E300 uses a 2.0-liter turbocharged 4-cylinder with 241 horsepower and 273 pound-feet of torque, while the E400 uses a 3.0-liter twin-turbo V6 with 329 horsepower and 354 pound-feet of torque. The V6 is described as the better choice, while the 4-cylinder is called underpowered in this heavier car.
• Safety package: Mercedes includes Car-to-X Communication, Pre-Safe Sound, automatic braking that can detect crossing traffic and people, and adaptive cruise control that can recognize changing speed limits. Many of these features are optional, and many are not offered by other automakers.
• Infotainment: The cabin tech includes Android Auto, Apple CarPlay, a Wi-Fi hotspot, a built-in web browser, a head-up display, and a configurable instrument panel. Some of the most advanced features are tied to the Premium 3 package.
• Fuel efficiency: The E300 is EPA-rated at 22 mpg city and 30 highway, while the E300 4Matic is rated at 21/29. The E400 coupe is rated at 20/26, and the E400 4Matic wagon is rated at 19/25.

Which 2018 Mercedes-Benz E-Class trim should I buy?

The 2018 Mercedes-Benz E-Class is offered in 4 trim levels: E300 sedan, E300 4Matic sedan, E400 4Matic coupe, E400 4Matic wagon.

Here's the short version:

• E300 sedan: This is the entry point and the most affordable way into the E-Class, but the 2.0-liter turbo four is described as underpowered for the car’s size. It makes sense if you want the lowest starting price and are comfortable with a more basic setup.
• E300 4Matic sedan: This adds all-wheel drive and is one of the most popular trims. It’s the better-value pick if you want broader all-weather confidence without jumping to the pricier V6 models.
• E400 4Matic coupe: This is the best choice if you want the stronger 3.0-liter twin-turbo V6 and the coupe body style. The expert notes call this engine the best choice, with better passing power and a more satisfying overall drive.
• E400 4Matic wagon: This is the wagon version of the V6 setup and suits you if you want the same stronger powertrain with more utility. It’s also one of the trims that can be paired with the Luxury Line treatment.

The safety content also notes that many advanced features are optional, so you should verify exactly which driver-assistance equipment is installed on any car you’re considering.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2018 Mercedes-Benz E-Class?

This is a moderate market for selective buyers, so you can shop carefully and still find worthwhile listings.

• Deal availability: 37.6% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 1,297 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 9.04% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 60.8% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $22,993, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2018 Mercedes-Benz E-Class's resale value?

The current average of $22,993 sits slightly below last year's $25,277.

That decline suggests the market has already adjusted downward, which can help you as a buyer today but may limit upside if you plan to resell soon. For a future seller, the key takeaway is that luxury cars can lose value quickly, especially when maintenance costs and option complexity make shoppers more selective.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.76/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2018 Mercedes-Benz E-Class safe?

The 2018 Mercedes-Benz E-Class earns a five-star overall rating from NHTSA, with five-star ratings in frontal and side crash tests and for rollover vulnerability, and it is rated Top Safety Pick+ by IIHS.

It earns a 10/10 safety score from our experts.

Mercedes includes Car-to-X Communication, Pre-Safe Sound, automatic braking that can detect crossing traffic and people, and adaptive cruise control that can respond to changing speed limits. The safety writeup also notes optional rear side airbags on the coupe and sedan, which is unusual for this class.

Should I buy a 2018 Mercedes-Benz E-Class or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2018 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2018 if:

• 37.6% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 60.8% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 9.04% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.76/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• The expert summary says you get one of the finest luxury cars on the face of the planet, with the reward being refinement and a premium experience.

The bottom line: The 2018 is the right move if you want a deeply polished luxury sedan and you’re willing to pay attention to history, condition, and equipment. If you’re more price-sensitive, a nearby year may be worth comparing, but the 2018 remains especially appealing when you find a clean, well-priced example with the features you want.
