Why it stands out
Mercedes-Benz offers the 2018 E-Class as a midsize luxury car that aims squarely at buyers who want a premium experience. The expert test drive data describes it as “the ultimate midsize luxury car for the ultimate price,” and says that while you pay a lot, the reward is owning one of the finest luxury cars on the face of the planet. The 2018 Mercedes E300 W213 is a very good value in the used car market. Find one with good maintenance history and not abused. The turbocharged four cylinder engine provides enough power for daily driving, is economical, and the car is very comfortable for long trips.

Sadly I was involved in a single car accident with a rim and tire blown out and caused me to lose control and wreck into a guardrail and total my e350 none repairable but am convinced that the car saved my life that day if I had been in any other car I believe I would have died this car is so reliable safe and great on gas for the size and very beautiful looking car I miss her so much the best car I ever had owned hands down I give it a solid 10+

Great engine and transmission. Great immediate power. Nice ride and drive, feedback from the suspension and steering. Very nice interior and every set up. Except there is moderate rattle noise from the dash which I believe can be fixed by padding the inside and the edges of the dash. Other than that, a perfect daily.

Is the 2018 Mercedes-Benz E-Class a good car?
Yes — with a 4.76/5 user rating and an 8/10 expert rating, the 2018 Mercedes-Benz E-Class lands firmly in premium-car territory. The model scores 10/10 across Technology and Safety.
Owners consistently praise the smooth ride, luxurious interior, powerful performance, advanced features, and elegant styling. That lines up with the overview’s focus on a premium experience for buyers who want a no-compromise luxury car rather than a value play.
The market also shows 33.1% of listings as good or great deals, so you still have room to shop carefully without giving up on quality.
Is the 2018 Mercedes-Benz E-Class reliable?
Owners rate it 4.76/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.
The owner summary points to a car that feels smooth, luxurious, and powerful, while also highlighting advanced features and elegant styling. It also suggests the car is dependable enough to satisfy owners over time, even if some note wear-and-tear concerns and higher maintenance costs after the warranty period.
The expert review reinforces that this is a calm, refined car that’s built to deliver a premium driving experience over the long haul. For used buyers, the main ownership risk is that the luxury experience can come with expensive upkeep once warranty coverage is gone.
What should I look for when buying a used 2018 Mercedes-Benz E-Class?
At 59.5% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
You should start with a vehicle history report and then prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially if the car has been optioned heavily or shows signs of wear. Focus on condition details that matter on a luxury car: interior wear, electronics behavior, and evidence of past bodywork or repairs.
Key things to evaluate:
- Trim level: The cabin is loaded with high-end touches such as inlaid wood, large high-res screens, bright LED mood lighting in 64 colors, and two-tone leather combinations. The Luxury Line swaps in a classic thin-lined grille and standing hood ornament, while the coupe uses a pillarless design with powered rear half windows.
- Powertrain: The E300 uses a 2.0-liter turbocharged 4-cylinder with 241 horsepower and 273 pound-feet of torque, while the E400 uses a 3.0-liter twin-turbo V6 with 329 horsepower and 354 pound-feet of torque. The 4-cylinder is described as underpowered in this heavier car, while the V6 is the better choice.
- Safety package: Car-to-X Communication, Pre-Safe Sound, side-bolster inflation in a side collision, automatic braking for crossing traffic and pedestrians, and adaptive cruise control that can react to changing speed limits are all part of the safety story. Many of these features are optional, and several are tied to the expensive Premium 3 package.
- Infotainment: The car offers Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, a Wi-Fi hotspot, a built-in web browser, a head-up display, and a configurable instrument panel. The tech suite is extensive, but some of the most advanced features are bundled into costly packages.
- Fuel efficiency: The E300 is EPA-rated at 22 mpg city and 30 highway, or 21/29 with 4Matic. The E400 coupe is rated at 20/26, and the E400 4Matic wagon at 19/25.
Which 2018 Mercedes-Benz E-Class trim should I buy?
The 2018 Mercedes-Benz E-Class is offered in 4 trim levels: E300 sedan, E300 4Matic sedan, E400 coupe, E400 4Matic wagon.
Here's the short version:
- Base trim: The E300 sedan gives you the entry point, but the 2.0-liter four-cylinder is described as underpowered in this heavier car, and many of the most desirable safety and semi-autonomous features are tied to expensive packages.
- Sweet-spot trim: The E300 4Matic sedan is the better everyday pick if you want all-weather traction, but the E400 remains the stronger value for buyers who care more about performance and refinement than entry price.
- Premium/top trim: The E400 coupe and E400 4Matic wagon bring the stronger 3.0-liter twin-turbo V6, which the review calls the best choice, along with a more satisfying driving experience.
- Off-road trim: The wagon is worth considering if you want the utility, but for typical daily driving the added body style is more about practicality than a different ownership experience.
Many of the safety and semi-autonomous features are locked into the expensive Premium 3 package, so check option content carefully before you buy.

Should I buy a 2018 Mercedes-Benz E-Class or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2018 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2018 if:
- 33.1% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- At 59.5% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 8.45% compared with last year.
- Owners rate it 4.76/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
- You get a luxury car that the expert review describes as one of the finest on the road, with standout technology and safety.
The bottom line: If you want the strongest mix of luxury, technology, and safety in this price range, the 2018 E-Class is the right direction to focus on. If you’re especially price-sensitive, you can still shop this year confidently, but make sure the car’s history and option content justify the asking price before you commit.
