That lines up with the overview: you’re looking at a sedan that aims to blend value with a more premium character, especially if you want a comfortable, stylish daily driver with a more upscale cabin. It also scores well with shoppers who care about driving dynamics and a polished presentation.

Is the 2018 Mazda MAZDA6 reliable?

The expert evaluation also describes the car as a tempting value proposition with a full safety package at the lower end of the lineup, which supports the idea that it’s built to be a sensible long-term buy.

The turbocharged engine and upscale trim content add appeal, but used buyers should still pay close attention to maintenance history and wear items so the car’s premium ambitions don’t turn into premium ownership costs.

What should I look for when buying a used 2018 Mazda MAZDA6?

At 47.1% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should start with a vehicle history report and then prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially if you’re considering a higher-mileage example or a car with a price that looks unusually low. Focus on body condition, tire wear, brake condition, and signs of prior repair quality so you can separate a clean, well-kept car from one that has been cosmetically refreshed after damage.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The Sport trim includes LED headlights, push-button start, an 8-inch infotainment touchscreen, blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert, and a rear-view camera, while the Touring adds 19-inch wheels, keyless entry, a sunroof, auto wipers and high beams, heated front seats with driver power, faux leather, rear USB charging ports, and rear vents. The Grand Touring adds an upgraded infotainment system, an 11-speaker stereo, navigation, satellite radio, and the turbocharged engine, while the Grand Touring Reserve adds a heated steering wheel, memory settings, real leather, heated rear seats, ventilated front seats, adaptive LED headlights, and a head-up display. The Signature adds a digital cluster, front and rear parking sensors, a 360-degree camera, Nappa leather, microfiber faux suede, and real wood trim.
• Powertrain: The base engine is a naturally aspirated 2.5-liter inline-four with 187 hp and 186 lb-ft of torque, paired with a 6-speed manual on Sport or an available 6-speed automatic. Higher trims add a turbocharged 2.5-liter engine with 250 hp and 310 lb-ft of torque, paired with a 6-speed automatic.
• Safety package: The standard safety setup includes blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert and a rear-view camera, and the available i-Activesense package adds forward-collision warning with automatic emergency braking, adaptive cruise, and lane-departure warning with lane-keep assist. The base trim gets the core safety gear, while the full suite is available for an added cost.
• Infotainment: The car uses Mazda Connect with a rotary controller and an 8-inch touchscreen that does not respond to touch unless the vehicle is in park. Smartphone integration arrives through an update that adds Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, and every Mazda ships with both starting in December.
• Fuel efficiency: The base 2.5-liter engine returns 26 city mpg and 35 highway mpg, while the turbocharged version returns 23 city mpg and 31 highway mpg.

Which 2018 Mazda MAZDA6 trim should I buy?

The 2018 Mazda MAZDA6 is offered in 5 trim levels: Sport, Touring, Grand Touring, Grand Touring Reserve, Signature.

Here's the short version:

• Sport: This is the value play if you want the lowest entry point and still want standard blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, a rear-view camera, LED headlights, push-button start, and an 8-inch touchscreen. It’s the trim that gives you the core Mazda6 experience without pushing the budget too far.
• Touring: This is the best-value trim for many shoppers because it adds a more complete comfort and convenience package, including 19-inch wheels, keyless entry, a sunroof, heated front seats, faux leather, and rear-seat amenities. If you want the most balanced mix of features and price, this is the one to focus on.
• Grand Touring: Choose this if you want the turbocharged engine, upgraded infotainment, navigation, satellite radio, and the 11-speaker stereo. It’s the trim that most clearly shifts the Mazda6 toward a more premium and more powerful personality.
• Grand Touring Reserve: This trim is for you if comfort upgrades matter most, since it adds a heated steering wheel, memory settings, real leather, heated rear seats, ventilated front seats, adaptive LED headlights, and a head-up display. It’s the step up that feels most luxurious without going all the way to the top.
• Signature: This is the top-tier choice if you want the most upscale cabin, with Nappa leather, real wood trim, a digital cluster, parking sensors, and a 360-degree camera. It’s the trim that best matches Mazda’s premium ambitions.

The safety package is strongest when you add the available i-Activesense bundle, which brings forward-collision warning with automatic emergency braking, adaptive cruise, and lane-departure warning with lane-keep assist.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2018 Mazda MAZDA6?

This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop carefully without feeling rushed.

• Deal availability: 32.4% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 380 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 2.86% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 47.1% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $15,791, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2018 Mazda MAZDA6's resale value?

The current average of $16,146 sits slightly below last year's $16,622.

That softer pricing suggests the model has become a bit more buyer-friendly, which can make it easier for future sellers to attract interest if they price the car realistically. The current market also shows a defined year-round range, so condition and trim level should matter a lot when you eventually go to sell.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 5/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2018 Mazda MAZDA6 safe?

The Mazda6 earns five-star ratings in all NHTSA tests except rollover and front passenger side tests, which earned four-star ratings.

It earns an 8/10 safety score from our experts.

The standard safety setup includes blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert and a rear-view camera, and the available i-Activesense package adds forward-collision warning with automatic emergency braking, adaptive cruise, and lane-departure warning with lane-keep assist. That means you can get a strong core safety package even on the base trim, while the optional suite adds more advanced driver assistance.

The main caveat is that the NHTSA results are not perfect across every test, so if safety is a top priority, you should pay close attention to trim and option content when shopping used examples.

Should I buy a 2018 Mazda MAZDA6 or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2018 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2018 if:

• 32.4% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 47.1% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 2.86% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 5/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• The 2018 model adds a slight redesign, a new Signature trim, and the turbocharged 2.5-liter engine, which help it feel more upscale and more compelling than a typical mainstream sedan.

The bottom line: If you want the strongest mix of style, value, and premium feel, the 2018 is the year to target. If you’re mainly chasing the lowest possible price, you can still shop carefully within this year’s market and focus on the cleanest, best-maintained example you can find.

How does the 2018 Mazda MAZDA6 compare to the 2018 Honda Accord?

Our experts score the 2018 Mazda MAZDA6 7.8/10 and the 2018 Honda Accord 8.2/10.

The Mazda6 is the more style-forward choice, with a more upscale cabin feel and stronger emphasis on driving enjoyment. The Accord counters with a lower starting price, more power from its base engine, better fuel economy, and a much larger pool of listings to shop from. If you want the more premium-feeling sedan, the Mazda6 makes a strong case; if you want broader market availability and a slightly stronger overall score, the Accord has the edge.
