CarGurus Analysis: 2018 Mazda MAZDA6
overall

Summary
With 409 currently listed for sale and an average price of $16,105, 31.5% of 2018 Mazda MAZDA6 listings on CarGurus are rated as good or great deals.
Favorably reviewed: Owners rated the 2018 Mazda MAZDA6 5 / 5 stars and CarGurus experts gave it a 7.83 / 10.
50.6% of 2018 Mazda MAZDA6 listings on CarGurus are accident free.
Why it stands out
The 2018 Mazda MAZDA6 stands out as a midsize sedan that aims higher than many of its peers. Mazda gave it a slight redesign, a new Signature trim, and the addition of a turbocharged 2.5-liter engine from the CX-9, all of which help the car reach toward a more upscale feel. The result is a Mazda6 that is meant to cover both value and luxury in one package, rather than leaning only on practicality.
That upscale ambition is reinforced by the redesigned interior and the new top-tier trim, which give the 2018 MAZDA6 a more premium character than its price might suggest. The turbocharged engine is a major part of its appeal, and owner feedback echoes that strength by praising the car’s powerful performance, comfortable ride, and well-appointed cabin. At the same time, the car’s mission is also its challenge: it is trying to compete with more expensive alternatives without the advantage of a luxury-brand badge.

Very impressionable features. Very good value for price. This vehicle is missing nothing, it's all there. This vehicle is top tier, it's up there with Honda and Toyota.

Love the car!! Ive been a Mazda fan for years and they just continue to improve. I purchased the Signature, and its fantastic. Loaded with features, tons of power thanks to the turbo, and a very very quiet ride. With snow tires on it also does well in the snow.

Easily one of the top choices in its segment. It drives and has an interior from a car that costs twice as much. Its very good looking outside as well. Its efficient, spacious, and reliable. And NOTHING DRIVES LIKE THIS. it feels amazing to be behind the wheel of one of these. Excellent car all the way around.

What should I look for when buying a used 2018 Mazda MAZDA6?
At 50.7% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
You should start with a vehicle history report and then prioritize a careful inspection of bodywork, tires, brakes, and interior condition. Because this model can be found in a wide range of trims and equipment levels, it’s worth confirming that the features you want are actually present on the specific car you’re considering. If you’re shopping a turbocharged example, make sure the car has been maintained properly and drives cleanly under load.
Key things to evaluate:
- Trim level: The Sport trim starts with LED headlights, push-button start, an 8-inch infotainment touchscreen, blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert, and a rear-view camera, while the Touring adds 19-inch wheels, keyless entry, a sunroof, auto wipers and high beams, heated front seats with driver power, faux leather, rear USB charging ports, and rear vents. The Grand Touring and higher trims add more luxury and technology, and the Signature brings the most upscale materials and equipment.
- Powertrain: The base 2.5-liter engine makes 187 hp and 186 lb-ft of torque, while the turbocharged 2.5-liter engine raises output to 250 hp and 310 lb-ft. The base engine is paired with a 6-speed manual or optional 6-speed automatic, and the turbo engine uses a 6-speed automatic.
- Safety package: The base Sport includes blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert and a rear-view camera, and the available i-Activesense package adds forward-collision warning with automatic emergency braking, adaptive cruise, and lane-departure warning with lane-keep assist. That package is a key feature gap to check for on lower-trim cars.
- Infotainment: The Mazda Connect system uses an 8-inch touchscreen with rotary control, and smartphone integration arrives through Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. The available head-up display adds traffic sign recognition and turn-by-turn guidance.
- Fuel efficiency: The base engine returns 26 city mpg, 35 highway, and 29 combined mpg. The turbocharged engine returns 23 city, 31 highway, and 26 combined mpg.
Which 2018 Mazda MAZDA6 trim should I buy?
The 2018 Mazda MAZDA6 is offered in 5 trim levels: Sport, Touring, Grand Touring, Grand Touring Reserve, Signature.
Here's the short version:
- Sport: This is the value play if you want the lowest entry price and still want standard blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, a rear-view camera, LED headlights, and an 8-inch infotainment screen. It’s the trim to choose if you want the essentials and plan to add the safety package only if needed.
- Touring: This is the best-value upgrade for many shoppers because it adds a sunroof, heated front seats, keyless entry, faux leather, 19-inch wheels, and rear-seat conveniences without jumping all the way to the turbo models.
- Grand Touring: Choose this if you want the turbocharged engine, upgraded infotainment, an 11-speaker stereo, navigation, and satellite radio. It’s the right step up if performance matters more to you than keeping the price down.
- Grand Touring Reserve: This trim adds real leather, a heated steering wheel, memory settings, heated rear seats, ventilated front seats, and adaptive front lighting. It suits you if you want a more premium daily driver with comfort features that make sense in colder climates.
- Signature: This is the top luxury-oriented choice, with a digital cluster, front and rear parking sensors, a 360-degree camera, Nappa leather, microfiber faux suede, real wood trim, and other upscale touches. It’s the trim to buy if you want the most premium Mazda6 experience.
The safety package is a worthwhile add-on on lower trims, especially if you want the full suite of driver-assistance features.

That softer pricing suggests the market has become a bit more favorable for buyers, but it also means future sellers may need to stay realistic on asking price. That makes the safety setup especially strong for a mainstream sedan, though you should confirm whether a used example has the optional package if you want the full suite.
Should I buy a 2018 Mazda MAZDA6 or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2018 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2018 if:
- 32.5% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- At 50.7% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 3.67% compared with last year.
- Owners rate it 5/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
- The 2018 stands out for its redesign, new Signature trim, and turbocharged 2.5-liter engine, which help it deliver a more upscale feel than many midsize sedans.
The bottom line: If you want the strongest mix of style, value, and upscale features, the 2018 Mazda MAZDA6 is the year to target. If you’re especially price-sensitive, focus on the lower trims and shop carefully for accident-free examples with the equipment you want.
