What should I look for when buying a used 2018 Mazda MAZDA6?

At 51.7% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should start with a vehicle history report and then prioritize a careful pre-purchase inspection, especially if the car has had bodywork or shows uneven panel gaps, tire wear, or paint mismatch. Focus on overall condition rather than just trim level, because the best examples of this car are the ones that still feel tight, clean, and well cared for. If you’re comparing multiple listings, the cleanest maintenance history and the best cosmetic condition should carry real weight.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The Sport trim gives you standard LED headlights, push-button start, an 8-inch infotainment touchscreen, blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert, and a rear-view camera, while the Touring adds 19-inch wheels, keyless entry, a sunroof, auto wipers and high beams, heated front seats with driver power, and faux leather. The Touring is the better value if you want a more complete everyday package without jumping to the higher trims.
• Powertrain: You get a naturally aspirated 2.5-liter engine in the lower trims, and the turbocharged 2.5-liter engine adds much more power and torque in the upper trims. The standard engine is efficient and smooth, while the turbo version is the one to choose if you want stronger acceleration and a more energetic driving feel.
• Safety package: The base Sport includes blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert and a rear-view camera, and the available i-Activesense package adds forward-collision warning with automatic emergency braking, adaptive cruise, and lane-departure warning with lane-keep assist. That package is a meaningful upgrade if you want the full driver-assistance suite.
• Infotainment: The Mazda Connect system uses an 8-inch touchscreen with rotary control, and smartphone integration arrives for all models later in the model year with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. The Signature trim adds a digital cluster, while the available head-up display is a standout feature for keeping your eyes on the road.
• Fuel efficiency: The standard engine is rated at 26 city mpg and 35 highway mpg for 29 combined, while the turbocharged version returns 23 city mpg, 31 highway mpg, and 26 combined mpg.

Which 2018 Mazda MAZDA6 trim should I buy?

The 2018 Mazda MAZDA6 is offered in 5 trim levels: Sport, Touring, Grand Touring, Grand Touring Reserve, Signature.

Here's the short version:

• Sport: This is the entry point, but it still gives you LED headlights, push-button start, an 8-inch touchscreen, blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, and a rear-view camera. It makes sense if you want the lowest price and are willing to add the safety package if needed.
• Touring: This is the best-value trim for many shoppers because it adds 19-inch wheels, keyless entry, a sunroof, heated front seats, driver power adjustment, faux leather, rear USB charging, and rear vents. It feels much closer to a well-equipped family sedan without pushing into luxury pricing.
• Grand Touring: This is the trim to choose if you want the turbocharged engine, upgraded infotainment, 11-speaker stereo, navigation, and satellite radio. It’s the right pick if performance matters most.
• Grand Touring Reserve: This trim adds a heated steering wheel, memory settings, real leather, heated rear seats, ventilated front seats, adaptive LED headlights, and a head-up display. It’s the sweet spot if you want near-luxury comfort and convenience.
• Signature: This is the top trim and the most upscale version, with a digital cluster, front and rear parking sensors, a 360-degree camera, Nappa leather, microfiber faux suede, real wood trim, and other premium touches. Choose it if you want the most luxurious Mazda6 experience.

The safety package is available on the Sport trim, and that makes it easier to get strong active safety without moving up the lineup.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2018 Mazda MAZDA6?

This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop patiently but still move quickly on the right car.

• Deal availability: 31.3% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 412 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 3.96% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 51.7% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $15,791, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2018 Mazda MAZDA6's resale value?

The current average of $16,223 sits slightly below last year's $16,893.

That tells you the market has eased a bit, which can help you as a buyer now but may temper what you can expect later as a seller. If you buy at the right price and keep the car in strong condition, you’ll be better positioned to protect value when it’s time to sell. The model’s broad appeal, strong owner satisfaction, and upscale feel should help it stay attractive to used shoppers.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 5/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2018 Mazda MAZDA6 safe?

The Mazda6 earns five-star ratings in all NHTSA tests except rollover and front passenger side tests, which garnered four-star ratings.

It earns an 8/10 safety score from our experts.

The base Sport trim comes standard with blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert and a rear-view camera, and the available i-Activesense package adds forward-collision warning with automatic emergency braking, adaptive cruise, and lane-departure warning with lane-keep assist. That means you can get a strong safety foundation even on the lower trims. The main caveat is that braking performance is a bit disappointing, so if safety is a top priority, you should pay close attention to tire condition and overall stopping feel during your test drive.

Should I buy a 2018 Mazda MAZDA6 or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2018 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2018 if:

• 31.3% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 51.7% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 3.96% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 5/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• The 2018 stands out for its slight redesign, new Signature trim, and turbocharged 2.5-liter engine, which give it a more upscale and more powerful character than the model had before.

The bottom line: If you want the strongest mix of style, performance, and value, the 2018 is the one to target. If you’re more price-sensitive, you can still shop carefully and focus on the best-maintained examples, especially those with clean history reports and the equipment you care about most.
