What should I look for when buying a used 2018 Mazda MAZDA6?

At 48.2% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should start with a vehicle history report and then prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially if the car has been in a prior collision. Focus on bodywork quality, tire condition, braking feel, and whether the cabin and electronics match the trim level you expect. If you’re comparing multiple listings, the cleanest example with the best maintenance record is usually the smarter buy.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The Sport trim includes standard LED headlights, push-button start, an 8-inch infotainment touchscreen, blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert, and a rear-view camera, while the Touring adds 19-inch wheels, keyless entry, a sunroof, auto wipers and high beams, heated front seats with driver power, and faux leather. The Signature trim adds a digital cluster, front and rear parking sensors, a 360-degree camera, Nappa leather, microfiber faux suede, and real wood trim.
• Powertrain: The base 2.5-liter inline 4-cylinder makes 187 hp and 186 lb-ft of torque, while the turbocharged 2.5-liter engine makes 250 hp and 310 lb-ft of torque. The base engine is paired with a 6-speed manual or optional 6-speed automatic, and the turbo engine uses a 6-speed automatic.
• Safety package: The base Sport trim comes standard with blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert and a rear-view camera. The available i-Activesense package adds forward-collision warning with automatic emergency braking, adaptive cruise, and lane-departure warning with lane-keep assist.
• Infotainment: The Mazda Connect system uses a rotary dial controller and an 8-inch touchscreen that does not respond to touch unless the vehicle is in park. Smartphone integration arrives through Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, and the Signature trim adds a digital dash.
• Fuel efficiency: The base engine returns 26 city mpg and 35 highway mpg, while the turbocharged setup returns 23 city mpg and 31 highway mpg.

Which 2018 Mazda MAZDA6 trim should I buy?

The 2018 Mazda MAZDA6 is offered in 4 trim levels: Sport, Touring, Grand Touring, Grand Touring Reserve.

Here's the short version:

• Sport: This is the value play if you want the lowest entry point and still want a strong safety baseline, standard LED headlights, push-button start, an 8-inch touchscreen, blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, and a rear-view camera. It’s the trim that gives you the core Mazda6 experience without pushing the price too far up.
• Touring: This is the best-value trim for many shoppers because it adds 19-inch wheels, keyless entry, a sunroof, auto wipers and high beams, heated front seats with driver power, faux leather, rear USB charging ports, and rear vents. If you want a more complete daily-driver setup without jumping to the turbo engine, this is the sweet spot.
• Grand Touring: Choose this if you want the turbocharged 2.5-liter engine, the upgraded infotainment system, an 11-speaker stereo, navigation, and satellite radio. It’s the trim that most clearly shifts the Mazda6 toward a more premium and more powerful feel.
• Grand Touring Reserve: This trim adds a heated steering wheel, memory settings for the driver, real leather, heated rear seats, ventilated front seats, adaptive front LEDs with turn following, and a head-up display. It suits you best if comfort and upscale features matter more than value.

The safety package is especially compelling because the base Sport already includes blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert and a rear-view camera, and the available i-Activesense package adds forward-collision warning with automatic emergency braking, adaptive cruise, and lane-departure warning with lane-keep assist.

• Inventory: There are 382 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 2.10% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 48.2% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $15,790, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2018 Mazda MAZDA6's resale value?

The current average of $16,248 sits slightly below last year's $16,597.

That softer pricing suggests the model has become a little more buyer-friendly, which can help you if you’re shopping now. For a future seller, it also means you should expect resale value to depend heavily on condition, mileage, and trim appeal rather than assuming the market will lift prices on its own. Well-kept examples with desirable equipment should hold up better than average.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 5/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2018 Mazda MAZDA6 safe?

The 2018 Mazda MAZDA6 earns five-star ratings in all NHTSA tests except rollover and front passenger side tests, which earned four-star ratings.

It earns an 8/10 safety score from our experts.

The base Sport trim comes standard with blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert and a rear-view camera. If you want the full suite of safety systems, the available i-Activesense package adds forward-collision warning with automatic emergency braking, adaptive cruise, and lane-departure warning with lane-keep assist. One caveat is that braking performance is not as strong as some rivals, so condition and tire quality are worth checking closely on any used example.

Should I buy a 2018 Mazda MAZDA6 or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2018 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2018 if:

• 32.5% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 48.2% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 2.10% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 5/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• Mazda’s redesign, new Signature trim, and turbocharged 2.5-liter engine make this year feel more upscale and more compelling than a basic midsize sedan.

The bottom line: If you want the strongest mix of value, style, and premium feel, the 2018 is the right year to target. If you’re shopping mainly on price, you can still find good opportunities, but you should be selective and prioritize condition, trim, and maintenance history.

How does the 2018 Mazda MAZDA6 compare to the 2018 Honda Accord?

Our experts score the 2018 Mazda MAZDA6 7.8/10 and the 2018 Honda Accord 8.2/10.

The Mazda6 leans harder into style, upscale cabin feel, and driving enjoyment, while the Accord brings a stronger overall expert score and better efficiency. You also get more listings to choose from with the Accord, but the Mazda6 offers a lower average used price and a higher share of good or great deals. If you want the more engaging and premium-feeling sedan, the Mazda6 makes sense; if you want the broader all-around benchmark, the Accord is the safer default.
