Is the 2018 Mazda CX-3 a good car?

Yes — the 2018 Mazda CX-3 earns a 5/5 user rating and an 8/10 expert rating. The model scores 9/10 across Performance and Safety.

The compact size and AWD capability also come through as recurring strengths, and the overview points to a small crossover that prioritizes driving feel while still adding everyday reassurance and a more refined cabin.

With 31.8% of listings marked as good or great deals, you still have room to shop selectively.

Is the 2018 Mazda CX-3 reliable?

The expert evaluation also emphasizes the model’s improved handling and more comfortable cabin, which supports the sense that Mazda made meaningful long-term refinements for this year.

The added standard low-speed emergency braking and the cabin updates suggest a used CX-3 should feel well sorted, but you should still verify maintenance history and overall condition before committing.

What should I look for when buying a used 2018 Mazda CX-3?

At 62.5% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should start with a vehicle history report and then prioritize a careful inspection of bodywork, alignment, and any signs of prior repair quality. Because this model is compact and cargo space is limited, it also makes sense to focus on whether the interior and load area still fit your needs.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The Sport trim includes 16-inch alloy wheels, push-button start, a 7-inch touchscreen with a reversing camera and app integration through Mazda Connect, cruise control, Bluetooth, air conditioning, and a 6-speaker stereo with CD player. The Touring adds 18-inch alloys, auto headlights and wipers, heated seats, a leather-wrapped steering wheel, auto climate controls, heated mirrors, proximity entry, and blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alerts. The Grand Touring adds full exterior LEDs, leather-trimmed seats with Alcantara inserts, a head-up display, paddle shifters, and navigation.
• Powertrain: Every CX-3 uses a 2.0-liter, 4-cylinder engine with a 6-speed automatic transmission. It makes 146 hp and 146 lb-ft of torque, and Mazda says the setup is efficient enough to come close to its advertised 31 mpg combined rating.
• Safety package: The CX-3 includes low-speed emergency braking as standard, and the Touring trim adds blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alerts. The Premium Package adds upgraded forward-collision warning and auto-braking, adaptive cruise, lane-departure warning, auto high beams, and traffic-sign recognition.
• Infotainment: The CX-3 uses a 7-inch touchscreen with Mazda Connect. It does not include Android Auto or Apple CarPlay, and the rotary-controlled interface can take time to learn.
• Fuel efficiency: The CX-3 is rated at 31 mpg combined, with 29 mpg city and 34 mpg highway.

Which 2018 Mazda CX-3 trim should I buy?

The 2018 Mazda CX-3 is offered in 3 trim levels: Sport, Touring, Grand Touring.

What is the 2018 Mazda CX-3's resale value?

The current average of $15,119 sits slightly below last year's $15,173.

That small decline suggests the CX-3 has been holding value fairly steadily rather than dropping sharply. For you, that means a future resale story that is more about consistency than volatility, which can make ownership costs easier to predict.

Should I buy a 2018 Mazda CX-3 or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2018 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2018 if:

• 31.8% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 62.5% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices have held steady compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 5/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• Mazda added standard low-speed emergency braking and improved the cabin for this year.

Consider the 2019 if:

• At $15,959, the 2019 costs more than the current year's $15,119 average.
• It adds a fresher, more polished feel with even more style and sophistication.

The 2018 is the better pick if you want the strongest value and the same core Mazda driving character at a lower price. If you can stretch for the 2019, you may prefer its updated presentation, but price-sensitive buyers should feel comfortable targeting the 2018.
