Summary
With 440 currently listed for sale and an average price of $14,394, 33.6% of 2018 MINI Coopers for sale on CarGurus are rated as good or great deals.

Why it stands out
The 2018 MINI Cooper stands out for blending retro style with a playful driving character that has long defined the brand. It is a small car with a premium feel, and its appeal comes as much from personality as from practicality. MINI’s go-kart-like handling remains a major draw, and the car’s compact size makes it easy to place on the road while still feeling lively and engaging.
For this generation, the Cooper benefits from a turbocharged three-cylinder engine, and the standard version makes 134 horsepower. The Cooper S is quicker with 189 horsepower, while performance-oriented John Cooper Works versions can reach up to 302 turbocharged horsepower. The cabin also gets an 8-inch infotainment touchscreen with Apple CarPlay and navigation available, though those features were added-cost options, and Android Auto was not available. Buyers also get the choice of a four-door body style, which adds some practicality, but the back seat is still tight and cargo space remains restricted, especially in the Convertible.
That mix of charm, customization potential, and driving fun is what makes the 2018 MINI Cooper distinctive. It is not the roomiest or most straightforward small car, and reliability has been a recurring concern for the model line, but it offers a characterful alternative for shoppers who value style and involvement over maximum space.

It's a great little car. Reminds me of all the little old vws I drove when I was a kid. It's nice and zippy. Really fun to drive on the back roads.

Beautiful clean car deluxe package. This car would be great for a couple. Not great if a tall person is driving and you need leg room in the rear seat behind the driver. Would be a tight ride for four adults or a family with older kids. Small trunk area. I think it is a fair value.

The Mini S Cooper Clubman is a very practical & fun to drive car. For my next car, however, I may consider the MINI S 4 door hardtop, as the back hatch on the 4 door hardtop seems that it might be easier to live with than the barn doors of the Clubman.

There are 432 listings available, which gives you a modest amount of inventory to compare.
If you find a listing below $13,655.21, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
Is the 2018 MINI Cooper a good car?
Yes — the 2018 MINI Cooper earns a 5/5 user rating, which points to strong owner satisfaction.
Drivers consistently praise its zippy performance, fun driving experience, and standout style. The review summary also highlights its practical features and good value, while noting that rear seat space can feel tight and the trunk is limited.
If you want a premium-feeling small car that is fun to drive and easy to recognize, this model year fits that use case well. The market also shows 32.2% of listings as good or great deals, which gives you some room to shop selectively.
Is the 2018 MINI Cooper reliable?
Owners rate it 5/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.
The review summary points to a car that feels dependable in everyday use, with owners repeatedly calling out its fun, practical character and good value over time. That kind of feedback suggests you can count on the ownership experience if the car has been maintained well.
For used buyers, the main long-term risk is less about the driving character and more about finding a well-kept example with a clean history and solid condition.
What should I look for when buying a used 2018 MINI Cooper?
At 69.2% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
You should start with a vehicle history report and confirm whether any reported damage was repaired properly. Put inspection priority on body condition, panel alignment, and signs of past collision work, then verify that the car drives as tightly as it should.
Because this model is valued for its compact, sporty feel, you should also focus on how the cabin and cargo area meet your needs before you commit.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2018 MINI Cooper?
This looks like a moderate, selective buyer's market, so you can shop carefully without expecting every listing to be a bargain.
- Deal availability: 32.2% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 432 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 5.36% compared with last year.
- Clean inventory: 69.2% of listings are accident-free.
If you find a listing below $13,655.21, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2018 MINI Cooper's resale value?
The current average of $14,478 sits slightly below last year's $15,298.
That softer pricing can help you buy more carefully now, but it also means future resale will depend heavily on how well the car is maintained and how clean its history is. If you buy at the right price and keep the car in strong condition, you give yourself a better chance of limiting depreciation pain later.
Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 5/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Should I buy a 2018 MINI Cooper or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2018 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2018 if:
- 32.2% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- At 69.2% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 5.36% compared with last year.
- Owners rate it 5/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
Consider the 2019 if:
- At $15,942, the 2019 costs more than the current year's $14,478 average.
- It leans harder into sporty personality and a more characterful driving feel.
The bottom line: If you want the better value play, the 2018 is the stronger starting point because it combines a lower average price with solid owner satisfaction. If you are willing to pay more for a newer model year and you prioritize personality over value, the 2019 is the secondary path to consider.
