CarGurus Analysis: 2018 Land Rover Range Rover Sport

Summary
With 134 currently listed for sale and an average price of $25,676, 35.1% of 2018 Land Rover Range Rover Sport listings on CarGurus are rated as good or great deals.
Favorably reviewed: Owners rated the 2018 Land Rover Range Rover Sport 4.25 / 5 stars.
78.4% of 2018 Land Rover Range Rover Sport listings on CarGurus are accident free.
Why it stands out
The 2018 Land Rover Range Rover Sport stands out as a luxury SUV that blends high-end style with genuine off-road credibility. Land Rover’s reputation for 4x4 capability gives it unusual authority in this class, and the Range Rover Sport is positioned as a more attainable alternative to the flagship Range Rover while still emphasizing performance and a premium cabin. It is also an expensive vehicle by midsize SUV standards, which makes it feel like an outlier in the luxury market.
For this model year, the Range Rover Sport benefits from the second-generation updates that made it lighter, smoother, quicker, and roomier than before. The aluminum unibody chassis, longer wheelbase, and added length improved passenger and cargo space, while the available 5+2 seating arrangement added flexibility for families. The 2018 refresh brought sleeker exterior lighting and bumpers, plus a second touchscreen that handled climate and Terrain Response functions. It also gained standard forward emergency braking, blind spot monitoring, and lane-keep assist, along with the updated InControl Touch Pro system, which added WiFi and 4G connectivity.
Buyers are drawn to the Range Rover Sport for its strong engines, polished road manners, and serious off-road hardware. The 2018 SVR is the performance standout, with 575 horsepower, while the rest of the lineup still offers the kind of upscale feel and capability that define the model. The tradeoff is that it remains difficult to recommend as a used SUV because reliability, fuel economy, and ownership costs are all weak points.

This is truly one of the best suvs built today! The styling, performance, comfort & ride quality is virtually unmatched in its category. Extremely comfortable quiet ride. You feel completely isolated and its completely competent to handle anything. We absolutely love this vehicle, and have vowed to always have one in our garage. Weve owned Audis, BMWs & Mercedes and they are no match to our RR.

Great highway car, but has also done some of the most difficult roads in Kansas. Great four wheel drive capabilities. Drives very well at 80 plus mph on the freeways. (It’s legal.)

I was personally not impressed with the features, interior space, or drive of this vehicle. It felt cheap and incredibly over priced. I was surprised with how nice my 2018 Jeep Grand Cherokee felt AFTER test driving this vehicle!

Is the 2018 Land Rover Range Rover Sport a good car?
Generally — 4.25/5 is a strong user rating for a luxury SUV, and this model’s appeal comes from its blend of high-end style, genuine off-road credibility, and a premium cabin. The 2018 update also improved passenger and cargo space, added a more flexible seating arrangement, and brought useful tech and safety upgrades, which makes it especially appealing if you want capability without giving up refinement. It is also positioned as a more attainable alternative to the flagship Range Rover while still feeling upscale and performance-oriented. 36.0% of listings are priced as good or great deals, which gives you some room to shop selectively.
Is the 2018 Land Rover Range Rover Sport reliable?
Owners rate it 4.25/5, a solid signal of long-term satisfaction.
The overview still points to weak reliability as a drawback, even though the 2018 model benefits from updates that made it smoother, lighter, and more refined than before. You also get standard forward emergency braking, blind spot monitoring, and lane-keep assist, which adds to the sense that this is a more complete version of the SUV. For used buyers, the main long-term risk is that ownership costs can stay high even when the vehicle looks appealing on paper.
What should I look for when buying a used 2018 Land Rover Range Rover Sport?
At 74% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
You should run a vehicle history report on any promising listing and confirm whether prior damage was cosmetic or structural. A pre-purchase inspection should focus on overall condition, signs of uneven wear, and whether the premium features and off-road systems are functioning properly. Because this model is expensive to own, you want to be especially careful about maintenance records and how well the vehicle has been kept.

What is the 2018 Land Rover Range Rover Sport's resale value?
The current average of $22,969 sits slightly below last year's $26,723.
That price drop suggests the market has already adjusted downward, which can help you as a buyer now but may limit upside if you plan to resell soon. If you buy at the right price and keep the vehicle in strong condition, you may be able to soften the impact of depreciation. The key is to avoid overpaying for a truck with questionable history or deferred maintenance, since those factors can weigh on future demand.
Vehicles with solid owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.25/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Should I buy a 2018 Land Rover Range Rover Sport or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2018 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2018 if:
- 36.0% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- At 74% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 14.05% compared with last year.
- Owners rate it 4.25/5 — a solid satisfaction signal.
The bottom line: The 2018 is the right pick if you want the updated second-generation Range Rover Sport with stronger tech, more space, and a more polished feel than earlier versions. If you are especially price-sensitive, you may want to compare it with nearby years and focus on the cleanest, best-documented example rather than chasing the lowest sticker price.
