CarGurus Analysis: 2018 Jeep Grand Cherokee

Summary
With 492 currently listed for sale near Atlanta, GA and an average price of $24,749.00, 22.0% of 2018 Jeep Grand Cherokees for sale on CarGurus are rated as good or great deals.
Favorably reviewed: Owners rated the 2018 Jeep Grand Cherokee 4.73 / 5 stars.
74.2% of 2018 Grand Cherokee models on CarGurus are accident free.
Why it stands out
The 2018 Jeep Grand Cherokee stands out because it blends everyday comfort with genuine off-road ability, a combination that has long defined the model. By this point in the fourth generation, Jeep had given the Grand Cherokee a more polished ride, a fully independent suspension, and increasingly sophisticated infotainment systems, while still keeping the SUV’s core capability intact. It also remained available with a wide range of powertrains and four-wheel-drive systems, so buyers could choose a version that leaned toward efficiency, towing, or trail use.
For 2018, the Grand Cherokee added a 7-inch touchscreen, Apple CarPlay, and Android Auto as standard equipment. That update made the cabin feel more modern and helped reinforce one of the model’s strengths: it offered useful technology without losing its rugged character. The Trailhawk trim also debuted that year, bringing upgraded air suspension, a limited-slip differential, and five terrain settings, along with red tow hooks and a blacked-out hood. Those details made the 2018 Grand Cherokee especially appealing to buyers who wanted a luxury-leaning SUV that could still be taken seriously off pavement.
There are tradeoffs, though. The fourth-generation Grand Cherokee’s gas mileage is described as mediocre by midsize SUV standards, and reliability concerns remain part of its story, especially for earlier examples of this generation. Even so, the 2018 model’s mix of capability, comfort, and standard tech makes it one of the more well-rounded versions of the Grand Cherokee formula.

| Metric | Value |
|---|---|
| Current Average Price | $16,596 |
| Year-Round Low | $16,605.35 |
| Year-Round High | $18,268.05 |
| Average Price a Year Ago | $18,268 |
| Change vs. Last Year | −9.15% |
Prices have softened 9.15% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.
There are 5,845 listings available, which suggests solid inventory for comparison shopping.
If you find a listing below $16,605.35, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
Is the 2018 Jeep Grand Cherokee a good car?
Yes — 4.73/5 is a strong user rating, and it lines up with the themes drivers repeat most often: strong performance, comfort, and luxurious features. You also see praise for the spacious interior, impressive technology, and off-road capability, which fits a vehicle that blends everyday comfort with genuine trail ability. For you, that means the 2018 Grand Cherokee makes the most sense if you want a well-rounded SUV that can handle commuting, family duty, and weekend adventure. 28.0% of listings are priced as good or great deals, so there are still worthwhile opportunities if you shop carefully.
Is the 2018 Jeep Grand Cherokee reliable?
Owners rate it 4.73/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.
The owner feedback also points to a dependable-feeling ownership experience, with praise for comfort, performance, and the kind of capability people can count on over time. That said, the same feedback also mentions fuel economy and pricing concerns, so your long-term ownership risk is less about satisfaction and more about choosing the right example and trim for your budget.
What should I look for when buying a used 2018 Jeep Grand Cherokee?
At 63.6% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
You should start with a vehicle history report so you can separate clean examples from those with prior damage. After that, prioritize a thorough pre-purchase inspection, especially on the suspension, drivetrain, and electronics, since condition matters more than mileage alone on a used SUV like this. Focus on maintenance records and overall wear so you can avoid paying strong money for a vehicle that needs immediate work.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2018 Jeep Grand Cherokee?
This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, where you can find value if you compare listings carefully.
- Deal availability: 28.0% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 5,845 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 9.15% compared with last year.
- Clean inventory: 63.6% of listings are accident-free.
If you find a listing below $16,605.35, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2018 Jeep Grand Cherokee's resale value?
The current average of $16,596 sits slightly below last year's $18,268.
That price movement suggests the market has already adjusted downward, which can help you buy more confidently now but may limit short-term upside if you plan to resell soon. If you buy at a strong price and keep the vehicle in good condition, you can reduce the impact of that depreciation. Demand should remain supported by the model’s broad appeal, especially among shoppers who want comfort and capability in one SUV.
Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.73/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Should I buy a 2018 Jeep Grand Cherokee or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2018 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2018 if:
- 28.0% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- At 63.6% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 9.15% compared with last year.
- Owners rate it 4.73/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
Consider the 2017 if:
- At $14,549, the 2017 costs less than the current year's $16,596 average.
- It offers a broad lineup with strong Jeep identity and off-road character.
Consider the 2019 if:
- At $18,308, the 2019 costs more than the current year's $16,596 average.
- It adds broad daily-driving versatility while still handling tougher terrain.
The bottom line: The 2018 is the best all-around pick if you want a strong mix of comfort, capability, and value. If your priority is saving money, the 2017 is the better secondary path. If you want to spend more for a newer-feeling alternative, the 2019 is worth a look, but you should expect to pay more for it.
