Is the 2018 Hyundai Kona a good car?

Yes — 4.7/5. The 2018 Hyundai Kona stood out in the subcompact SUV class with distinctive styling, a generous amount of equipment for the money, and available all-wheel drive. It also gave you a mix of character and value, with a base setup that included useful everyday tech and higher trims that added more comfort, safety, and convenience features. 34.5% of listings are priced as good or great deals, which suggests there are still worthwhile opportunities in the market.

Is the 2018 Hyundai Kona reliable?

Owners rate it 4.7/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

The 2018 Kona’s appeal comes from its straightforward 2.0-liter engine, six-speed automatic transmission, and available all-wheel drive, which gives you a practical setup for everyday use. Its higher trims also added a range of comfort and safety equipment, which can make ownership feel more complete if you choose carefully. For used buyers, the main long-term risk is ending up with a neglected example, so condition and maintenance history matter.

What should I look for when buying a used 2018 Hyundai Kona?

At 64.8% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should run a vehicle history report before you commit, then prioritize a pre-purchase inspection so you can catch any hidden body, suspension, or drivetrain issues. Focus on overall condition, especially signs of prior damage, uneven wear, or deferred maintenance, because those factors matter more when a meaningful share of the market has accident history.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2018 Hyundai Kona?

This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop patiently and still find value.

• Deal availability: 34.5% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 537 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 3.98% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 64.8% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $12,295, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2018 Hyundai Kona's resale value?

The current average of $12,814 sits slightly below last year's $13,346.

That softer pricing suggests the Kona is currently more buyer-friendly than seller-friendly, which can matter if you plan to trade in or sell within a few years. If you buy at a strong price and keep the vehicle in good condition, you may be better positioned to limit depreciation losses later. The model’s value-oriented reputation and broad appeal should help support demand, but resale will still depend heavily on mileage, condition, and trim.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.7/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Should I buy a 2018 Hyundai Kona or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2018 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2018 if:

• 34.5% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 64.8% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 3.98% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.7/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.

The bottom line: If you want the best balance of price, availability, and the Kona’s distinctive personality, the 2018 is a sensible place to start. If you’re especially price-sensitive, you can use the current market softness to shop carefully and target the cleanest, best-maintained example rather than stretching for a newer year.
