Is the 2018 Honda Odyssey a good car?

Yes — the 2018 Honda Odyssey earns a 4.75/5 user rating and an 8/10 expert rating. The model scores 9/10 across Technology and Safety.

Owners consistently praise its spaciousness, comfort, family-friendly features, reliability, and modern design. That lines up with the Odyssey’s role as a redesigned minivan that aims to be more refined, more versatile, and more engaging to drive than the typical family hauler.

With 36.8% of listings priced as good or great deals, you have a decent chance of finding a competitive offer if you shop carefully.

Is the 2018 Honda Odyssey reliable?

The owner feedback also points to reliability and a modern design as recurring strengths, which is encouraging if you want a used family vehicle you can count on. The expert evaluation adds that the Odyssey’s improved handling and more powerful drivetrain help make it feel more polished and capable in everyday use.

Honda also positions this generation as a more refined, family-friendly van with better versatility and stronger performance than before, which supports the case for dependable daily ownership. For used buyers, the main long-term risk is making sure the specific vehicle has been maintained well and hasn’t picked up hidden wear from heavy family use.

What should I look for when buying a used 2018 Honda Odyssey?

At 61% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should start with a vehicle history report and then prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially if you’re comparing multiple listings at similar prices. Focus on condition details that matter in a family vehicle: interior wear, seat operation, electronics, and signs of hard use. If you’re shopping a higher-mileage example, make sure the maintenance record supports the asking price.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The base LX is the simplest version and still includes 18-inch alloys, push-button start, auto climate control, power front seats, a reversing camera, Bluetooth, USB input, and a 5-inch screen. The EX adds power-sliding rear doors, keyless ignition and entry, Android Auto/Apple CarPlay, satellite radio, HD Radio, blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert, lane-departure warning and intervention, forward-collision warning and mitigation, adaptive cruise control, remote engine start, heated front seats, 3-zone climate control, second-row sunshades, and Magic Slide second-row seats.
• Powertrain: Every Odyssey uses a 3.5-liter V6 with 280 hp and 262 lb-ft of torque. Most buyers will want to pay attention to transmission choice, since the 10-speed is described as fast and smooth, while the 9-speed is noted as slower to shift and rougher when it does.
• Safety package: HondaSense is standard on every trim other than the base LX. The suite includes blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert, lane-departure warning and intervention, forward-collision warning and mitigation, and adaptive cruise control. Parking sensors are reserved for higher trims.
• Infotainment: The infotainment system uses a 5-inch screen on the base LX and a faster, more responsive interface on higher trims. Android Auto and Apple CarPlay appear on the EX, and the rear-seat entertainment system adds a 10-inch screen with higher resolution, built-in kid-friendly apps, and CabinControl smartphone integration.
• Fuel efficiency: The Odyssey is rated at 19 mpg city, 28 highway, and 22 combined.

Which 2018 Honda Odyssey trim should I buy?

The 2018 Honda Odyssey is offered in 5 trim levels: LX, EX, EX-L, Touring, Elite.

Here's the short version:

• LX: This is the entry point, and it gives you the core Odyssey formula at the lowest price. You get the V6, basic infotainment, and everyday convenience features, but you miss out on the more compelling family tech and safety equipment that make the higher trims easier to recommend.
• EX: This is the best-value trim for most shoppers. It adds the features many buyers will want right away, including power-sliding rear doors, keyless entry and ignition, smartphone integration, and the HondaSense safety suite.
• EX-L: Choose this if you want a more upscale cabin and plan to add family-focused convenience features. It brings leather upholstery, a power liftgate, a moonroof, memory settings, and access to the navigation and rear entertainment options.
• Touring: This is the better pick if you want the Odyssey loaded with comfort and convenience gear. It adds LED headlights, a hands-free liftgate, 4G LTE with Wi-Fi hotspot capability, parking sensors, the start/stop system, a rear-cabin camera, paddle shifters, and the integrated vacuum system.
• Elite: This is the top trim if you want the most premium version of the Odyssey. It builds on Touring with 19-inch alloys, more acoustic glass, ambient lighting, ventilated front seats, a wireless phone charger, rain-sensing wipers, and an upgraded 11-speaker stereo.

HondaSense is standard on every trim other than the base LX, while parking sensors are reserved for higher trims.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2018 Honda Odyssey?

This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop with some leverage if you’re patient.

• Deal availability: 36.8% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 2,195 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 8.46% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 61.0% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $19,502, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2018 Honda Odyssey's resale value?

The current average of $19,589 sits slightly below last year's $21,400.

That decline suggests the market has already adjusted downward, which can help you buy at a more favorable entry point today. For a future seller, it also means resale value may depend heavily on condition, mileage, and how well the van has been maintained.

Because the Odyssey has strong owner satisfaction and broad family appeal, well-kept examples should still attract steady demand. Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.75/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2018 Honda Odyssey safe?

The 2018 Honda Odyssey earns five-star ratings in all NHTSA tests except for a four-star rollover rating.

It earns a 9/10 safety score from our experts.

HondaSense is standard on every trim other than the base LX, and it includes blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert, lane-departure warning and intervention, forward-collision warning and mitigation, and adaptive cruise control. Parking sensors are limited to higher trims.

The safety picture is strong overall, but the rollover result is the main caveat to keep in mind when you’re comparing it with other family vehicles.

Should I buy a 2018 Honda Odyssey or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2018 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2018 if:

• 36.8% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 61% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 8.46% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.75/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• It brings a redesigned package with more features, better handling, improved versatility, and more power.

The bottom line: If you want the strongest mix of value, features, and family-friendly usability, the 2018 Odyssey is the one to target. If you’re especially price-sensitive, you can still shop carefully and look for a well-kept example near the low end of the range, but the 2018 already offers a compelling balance of refinement and equipment.
