That said, the overview makes clear that the Acadia is more compelling if you value versatility and comfort over maximum cargo space, and the V6 matters if you want stronger performance. With 33.1% of listings marked as good or great deals, there’s a decent amount of market value to work with.

Is the 2018 GMC Acadia reliable?

The expert notes also emphasize that the Acadia’s broader appeal comes from its improved handling, braking, and fuel economy, which supports confidence in long-term ownership.

The main ownership risk for used buyers is making sure the specific vehicle has been maintained well, especially if you’re considering one with higher mileage or heavier family-duty use.

What should I look for when buying a used 2018 GMC Acadia?

At 59.7% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should start with a vehicle history report and then prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially if the listing price looks unusually attractive. Focus on body condition, signs of prior repair, and whether the interior and cargo area show the kind of wear you’d expect from family use.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The SL trim is the most basic setup, with the 2.5-liter engine, front-wheel drive, a 7-inch touchscreen, Android Auto, Apple CarPlay, and a Wi-Fi hotspot. Moving up to SLE and SLT trims adds the features many shoppers will want, including AWD availability, the V6 option, captain’s chairs, leather, upgraded audio, and more convenience equipment.
• Powertrain: The 2.5-liter engine makes 193 horsepower and is described as inadequate for anything beyond commuter duty, while the 3.6-liter V6 makes 310 hp and is the better choice if you want towing, hauling, or stronger acceleration. Both engines use a 6-speed transmission.
• Safety package: Driver Alert I adds blind-spot monitoring, lane-departure warning, rear cross-traffic alert, and rear parking sensors. Driver Alert II adds lane-keep assist, auto high beams, front parking sensors, and low-speed forward-collision warning with auto braking.
• Infotainment: The base system uses a 7-inch touchscreen with Android Auto, Apple CarPlay, and a 4G LTE Wi-Fi hotspot. Higher trims add an upgraded driver display and, on Denali, an 8-inch touchscreen with navigation and virtual gauges.
• Fuel efficiency: The 2.5-liter engine returns 21 mpg city and 26 mpg highway, while the V6 returns 17 mpg city, 25 mpg highway, and 20 combined.

Which 2018 GMC Acadia trim should I buy?

The 2018 GMC Acadia is offered in 6 trim levels: SL, SLE1, SLE2, SLT1, SLT2, Denali.

Here's the short version:

• SL: This is the value entry point if you want the lowest price and can live with the 2.5-liter engine and front-wheel drive only. It still gives you a 7-inch touchscreen, Android Auto, Apple CarPlay, tri-zone climate control, keyless ignition and entry, and a Wi-Fi hotspot, so it’s not stripped down.
• SLE1: This trim is the first step toward broader capability, because it opens the door to AWD and the V6. It also adds LED running lights and satellite radio, making it a sensible middle ground if you want more flexibility without jumping too far up the price ladder.
• SLE2: This is the best-value trim for many shoppers because it adds heated power front seats, a power liftgate, front fog lights, roof rails, remote start, and standard second-row captain’s chairs. If you want family-friendly convenience and easier third-row access, this is the sweet spot.
• SLT1: This trim is the first one that feels clearly upscale, with leather upholstery, power lumbar support, an upgraded driver display, a Bose stereo, and the Driver Alert I safety package. It’s a strong pick if you want more comfort and safety tech without going all the way to luxury pricing.
• SLT2: This trim adds 20-inch wheels, a trailering package, heated second-row seats, and the Driver Alert II package with lane-keep assist, auto high beams, front parking sensors, and low-speed forward-collision warning with auto braking. Choose it if you want the most complete mainstream setup.
• Denali: This is the luxury choice, with an 8-inch touchscreen, navigation, virtual gauges, heated and ventilated front seats, a heated steering wheel, xenon headlights, polished 20-inch wheels, and a hands-free liftgate. It’s the right pick if you want the most upscale Acadia, but it commands a much higher price.

The safety-package trims are worth paying attention to: Driver Alert I starts on SLT1, Driver Alert II arrives on SLT2, and adaptive cruise with full-speed auto braking is Denali-only.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2018 GMC Acadia?

This is a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop carefully and still find worthwhile listings.

• Deal availability: 33.1% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 2,714 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 11.73% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 59.7% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $15,114, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2018 GMC Acadia's resale value?

The current average of $15,114 sits slightly below last year's $17,122.

That decline suggests the Acadia has already absorbed a meaningful amount of depreciation, which can help future sellers if they buy at the right price today. If you keep the vehicle in good condition and choose a desirable trim, you may be better positioned to limit further value loss.

The market still appears active enough to support demand, especially for well-equipped versions with the V6 and strong condition history. Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.8/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2018 GMC Acadia safe?

The Acadia was named a Top Safety Pick by IIHS when equipped with the Driver Alert II package, and it earns five-star ratings in frontal crash tests and four-star ratings in all other NHTSA tests.

It earns an 8/10 safety score from our experts.

The Acadia includes standard 4-wheel antilock disc brakes, traction and stability control, a full suite of airbags, and GM’s Teen Driver technology. The available Driver Alert packages add blind-spot monitoring, lane-departure warning, rear cross-traffic alert, rear parking sensors, lane-keep assist, auto high beams, front parking sensors, and low-speed forward-collision warning with auto braking.

One important caveat is that the strongest IIHS result depends on the Driver Alert II package, so you should verify that a used example has the right equipment if safety tech matters to you.

Should I buy a 2018 GMC Acadia or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2018 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2018 if:

• 33.1% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 59.7% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 11.73% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.8/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• The V6 is now available on more trims, improving versatility and everyday usability.

Consider the 2017 if:

• At $12,714, the 2017 costs less than the current year's $15,114 average.
• It introduced the lighter redesign and a new 4-cylinder engine.

Consider the 2019 if:

• At $16,750, the 2019 costs more than the current year's $15,114 average.
• It feels more upscale and refined.

The bottom line: The 2018 is the better all-around pick if you want the improved trim availability and stronger V6 access. If your budget is tighter, the 2017 can save you money, while the 2019 is worth considering if you want a more upscale feel and can spend more.

How does the 2018 GMC Acadia compare to the 2018 Chevrolet Traverse?

Our experts score the 2018 GMC Acadia 7.2/10 and the 2018 Chevrolet Traverse 8/10. The Traverse has the stronger overall expert score, a more powerful V6, and slightly better highway fuel economy. The Acadia counters with a lower average used price, more listings, and a better city MPG figure.

If you want the better value and a more upscale-feeling midsize SUV, the Acadia is appealing. If you want more power and a roomier family hauler, the Traverse is the stronger choice.
