CarGurus Analysis: 2018 Chevrolet Volt

Summary
With 194 currently listed for sale and an average price of $13,778.00, 27.3% of 2018 Chevrolet Volts for sale on CarGurus are rated as good or great deals.
Favorably reviewed: Owners rated the 2018 Chevrolet Volt 4.7 / 5 stars.
70.1% of 2018 Volt models on CarGurus are accident free.
Why it stands out
The 2018 Chevrolet Volt stands out because it blends electric driving with gas-powered backup in a way that still feels unusually practical. In this generation, engine torque was sent directly to the wheels through a mechanical connection, which helped boost the EPA-estimated all-electric range to around 53 miles. It also seated five, could run on regular fuel, and came with Apple CarPlay, giving it a mix of efficiency and everyday convenience that made it appealing to buyers who wanted modern technology without giving up flexibility.
The 2018 model also benefited from a well-equipped base setup. The LT trim included automatic climate control, remote start, passive entry, a built-in WiFi hotspot, an eight-inch infotainment touchscreen display, a rearview camera, cruise control, and Apple CarPlay as standard equipment. Available safety and comfort features included heated leather seats, a heated steering wheel, ambient lighting, blind-spot monitoring, lane departure warning, and automatic emergency braking. For 2018, the base model also gained available blind-spot monitoring and rear cross-traffic alert, which added to its appeal as a tech-forward compact car.
At the same time, the Volt was not perfect. The source notes cramped rear seats, a small cargo area, and cheap interior materials, so it was strongest as a smart, efficient commuter rather than a spacious family vehicle. Even so, its combination of electric-only driving for short distances, strong fuel economy, and a long total range made the 2018 Chevrolet Volt distinctive among used cars for shoppers trying to reduce fuel stops without fully committing to a battery-electric vehicle.

The Volt is an excellent car and offers the best of both worlds. The second generation volt offers over 50 miles of pure electric range but also gives you peace of mind with a gas engine that will get you a combined 400 or so miles of range. No range anxiety and no worries about the rising gas prices for your daily commute.

How much does the 2018 Chevrolet Volt cost?
| Metric | Value |
|---|---|
| Current Average Price | $13,821 |
| Year-Round Low | $12,878.35 |
| Year-Round High | $14,801.42 |
| Average Price a Year Ago | $14,804 |
| Change vs. Last Year | −6.64% |
Prices have softened 6.64% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.
There are 206 listings available, which gives you a useful amount of inventory to compare before you buy.
If you find a listing below $12,878.35, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
Is the 2018 Chevrolet Volt a good car?
Yes — the 2018 Chevrolet Volt earns a 4.7/5 user rating, which points to strong owner satisfaction. Drivers consistently praise its flexible hybrid system, its electric range of over 50 miles, and its fuel economy. That makes it a smart fit if you want a commuter-friendly car that can handle short trips on electricity while still giving you gas backup for longer drives. With 35.9% of listings marked as good or great deals, you also have a decent chance of finding one at an attractive price.
Is the 2018 Chevrolet Volt reliable?
Owners rate it 4.7/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.
User feedback also describes the Volt as reliable and dependable, with owners appreciating how trouble-free it feels for everyday use and how well it supports long-term ownership. The car’s ability to deliver electric driving for short trips while keeping gas backup in reserve also helps reduce range anxiety, which is part of why buyers tend to count on it. For used shoppers, the main long-term risk is making sure the specific car you choose has been maintained well and has not been worn down by years of commuter use.
What should I look for when buying a used 2018 Chevrolet Volt?
At 69.9% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
You should start with a vehicle history report so you can confirm accident records, title status, and ownership history before you get too far into the process. After that, prioritize a pre-purchase inspection that focuses on overall condition, because a used Volt’s value depends heavily on how well it has been cared for. Pay close attention to signs of wear that could affect daily usability, especially if you plan to rely on it as a commuter.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2018 Chevrolet Volt?
This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop carefully and still find worthwhile options.
- Deal availability: 35.9% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 206 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 6.64% compared with last year.
- Clean inventory: 69.9% of listings are accident-free.
If you find a listing below $12,878.35, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2018 Chevrolet Volt's resale value?
The current average of $13,821 sits slightly below last year's $14,804.
That softer pricing suggests the market has become a bit more favorable for buyers, but it also means future sellers may need to price competitively to stand out. If you buy well now, you may have a better chance of limiting depreciation pressure later. The Volt’s appeal as a practical hybrid commuter should help support demand, especially among shoppers who want efficiency without giving up gasoline backup.
Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.7/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Should I buy a 2018 Chevrolet Volt or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2018 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2018 if:
- 35.9% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- At 69.9% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 6.64% compared with last year.
- Owners rate it 4.7/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
The bottom line: The 2018 Chevrolet Volt makes the most sense if you want a well-liked, efficiency-focused commuter and you can verify condition carefully.
