How much does the 2018 BMW X3 cost?

Prices have softened 6.38% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.

There are 1,847 listings available, which gives you a solid pool of options to compare.

Is the 2018 BMW X3 a good car?

Yes — it earns a 5/5 user rating and a 7.7/10 expert rating. The model scores 9/10 across Form and function and Technology.

The 2018 X3 is a complete overhaul for the year, and BMW’s approach keeps it familiar while making it thoroughly new underneath. That fits well if you want a compact luxury crossover that blends everyday usefulness with a premium feel and a broad feature set.

36.2% of listings are priced as good or great deals, which suggests there are still worthwhile opportunities if you shop carefully.

Is the 2018 BMW X3 reliable?

Owners rate it 5/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

BMW describes the 2.0-liter turbocharged inline four as strong, smooth, and notably free of the vibration you might expect from a small engine, and the 8-speed automatic is described as essentially flawless. The model also includes three years or 36,000 miles of scheduled maintenance, including oil, brake fluid, air filters, and spark plugs.

For used buyers, the main long-term risk is that this is still a premium vehicle, so condition and maintenance history matter more than they would on a simpler crossover.

What should I look for when buying a used 2018 BMW X3?

At 69.3% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should start with a vehicle history report and then prioritize a close inspection of bodywork, electronics, and any option-package equipment. Because this model can be heavily optioned, it also pays to confirm that the features you want are actually present on the specific listing you’re considering.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The cabin is conservative and tasteful, with standard SensaTec vinyl, a panoramic moonroof, and large side glass that make it feel airy; higher equipment levels add features such as the bi-LED headlights and the 360-degree camera system, so base-trim listings may miss some of the more desirable convenience and visibility upgrades.
• Powertrain: The 2.0-liter turbocharged inline four is rated at 248 horsepower and 258 pound-feet of torque, and BMW also offers a 3.0-liter turbocharged inline six in the M40i with 355 hp and 369 lb-ft of torque; all-wheel drive is standard, and the 8-speed automatic is a standout.
• Safety package: Forward-collision alert, auto braking with pedestrian detection, and adaptive cruise control are only available with the Driving Assistance and Driving Assistance Plus packages, while the Driving Assistance package adds blind-spot monitoring and lane-departure warning.
• Infotainment: The X3 includes the latest iDrive interface, touchscreen capability, a 360-degree camera system, wireless device charging, Apple CarPlay, in-car Wi-Fi, and a head-up display with fast voice dictation and recognition.
• Fuel efficiency: No MPG or MPGe figure is stated in the provided data.

Which 2018 BMW X3 trim should I buy?

The 2018 BMW X3 is offered in 2 trim levels: xDrive30i, xDrive M40i.

Here's the short version:

• xDrive30i: This is the trim that gives you the core X3 experience, including the 248-horsepower turbocharged four-cylinder, standard AWD, and the well-regarded 8-speed automatic. It’s the better-value choice if you want the X3’s comfort, tech, and everyday usability without paying for the more powerful six-cylinder.
• xDrive M40i: This is the performance-oriented choice, with the 3.0-liter turbocharged inline six, 355 hp, upgraded brakes, a sport suspension, and a more aggressive look. Buy this one if you want the strongest acceleration and the most athletic version of the X3.

BMW notes that the Driving Assistance and Driving Assistance Plus packages are where you get the more advanced driver-assistance features, so check package content carefully on any trim you’re considering.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2018 BMW X3?

This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop with some leverage if you’re patient.

• Deal availability: 36.2% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 1,847 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 6.38% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 69.3% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $17,367, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2018 BMW X3's resale value?

The current average of $17,749 sits slightly below last year's $18,958.

That decline suggests the market has moved in buyers’ favor, which can make it harder for a future seller to command a premium unless the vehicle is especially clean, well equipped, and well documented. On the other hand, the X3’s broad appeal and premium positioning help support demand compared with less desirable used crossovers.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 5/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2018 BMW X3 safe?

The 2018 X3 is still too new to have been rated by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) and the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS).

It earns an 8/10 safety score from our experts.

BMW includes a pre-collision system that can shut the sunroof, windows, and pre-tension the seat belts if it detects an imminent crash. The car can also disable the battery, apply the brakes, and unlock the doors automatically after a crash. Driver assists like forward-collision alert, auto braking with pedestrian detection, and adaptive cruise control are only available with two option packages, while the Driving Assistance package adds blind-spot monitoring and lane-departure warning.

Should I buy a 2018 BMW X3 or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2018 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2018 if:

• 36.2% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 69.3% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 6.38% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 5/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• The 2018 model year stands out because it received a complete overhaul, giving the X3 a fresh start with a thoroughly new third-generation design.

The bottom line: If you want the newest-feeling version of this generation and you value the 2018 redesign, this is the year to target. If your priority is simply the lowest purchase price, a nearby model year may be worth comparing, but the 2018’s combination of fresh design, strong tech, and softened pricing makes it the more compelling all-around pick.

How does the 2018 BMW X3 compare to the 2018 Audi Q5?

Our experts score the 2018 BMW X3 7.7/10 and the 2018 Audi Q5 7.8/10. The BMW is the pricier used buy here, but it also brings a slightly stronger expert case for form and function and technology. The Audi undercuts it on average used price and has a slightly better deal share, while the BMW has the stronger accident-free share.
