How much does the 2018 BMW X3 cost?

Prices have softened 5.18% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.

There are 1,795 listings available, which gives you a solid pool of options to compare.

Is the 2018 BMW X3 a good car?

Yes — it earns a 5/5 user rating and a 7.67/10 expert rating. The model scores 9/10 across Form and function and Technology.

The 2018 X3 is a complete redesign, so you’re looking at a third-generation version that feels fresh rather than lightly updated. Its appeal is strongest if you want a compact BMW crossover with a premium badge, a practical SUV layout, and a more distinctive presence than many rivals in this crowded segment.

35.3% of listings are priced as good or great deals, which suggests there are still worthwhile opportunities if you shop carefully.

Is the 2018 BMW X3 reliable?

Owners rate it 5/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

BMW describes the X3 as a thoroughly updated third-generation model, and the expert review emphasizes that it feels like a clean break from the previous version. The 2.0-liter turbocharged inline-four is described as strong, smooth, and free of the usual small-engine vibration, while the 8-speed automatic is praised for seamless shifts. BMW also includes three years or 36,000 miles of scheduled maintenance, including oil, brake fluid, air filters, and spark plugs.

For used buyers, the main long-term ownership risk is that premium technology and options can raise repair and upkeep costs once the included maintenance period ends.

What should I look for when buying a used 2018 BMW X3?

At 69.3% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should start with a vehicle history report and then prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially if the listing has any accident history or a long option list. Pay close attention to how the tech, cameras, and driver-assistance features operate, since BMW packed a lot of equipment into this generation and some features were tied to packages.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The standard X3 emphasizes conservative styling, a minimalist cabin, SensaTec vinyl upholstery, and a panoramic moonroof feel when equipped, while higher equipment levels add more luxury and tech. The base setup is less lavish than the more optioned versions, so you should compare feature content carefully.
• Powertrain: The 2.0-liter turbocharged inline four is the core engine here, paired with an 8-speed automatic and standard all-wheel drive. BMW also offered a more powerful 3.0-liter turbocharged inline six in the M40i, which adds more performance-oriented hardware.
• Safety package: Forward-collision alert, auto braking with pedestrian detection, and adaptive cruise control are only available with the Driving Assistance and Driving Assistance Plus packages. The standard Driving Assistance package adds blind-spot monitoring and lane-departure warning.
• Infotainment: The X3 includes the latest iDrive interface, touchscreen capability, a 360-degree camera system on higher equipment levels, wireless device charging, Apple CarPlay, and in-car Wi-Fi. BMW also offers gesture control and a head-up display.
• Fuel efficiency: No fuel-economy figure is stated in the available data.

Which 2018 BMW X3 trim should I buy?

The 2018 BMW X3 is offered in 2 trim levels: xDrive30i, xDrive M40i.

Here's the short version:

• xDrive30i: This is the better-value choice if you want the core X3 experience: standard all-wheel drive, the 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder, and the same upscale cabin and tech foundation that make the model appealing. It gives you the cleanest entry into the redesigned X3 without paying for the more performance-focused hardware.
• xDrive M40i: Choose this if you want the stronger 3.0-liter turbocharged inline six and the added performance hardware that comes with it, including upgraded brakes and a sport suspension. It’s the right pick if you care more about speed and sharper responses than value.

Safety features like forward-collision alert, auto braking with pedestrian detection, and adaptive cruise control still require the Driving Assistance or Driving Assistance Plus packages.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2018 BMW X3?

This looks like a moderate market for selective buyers, with enough inventory and enough deal activity to reward careful shopping.

• Deal availability: 35.3% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 1,795 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 5.18% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 69.3% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $17,368, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2018 BMW X3's resale value?

The current average of $17,897 sits slightly below last year's $18,875.

That decline suggests the market has already adjusted downward, which can help you as a buyer but may limit upside if you plan to resell soon. If you buy at the right price and keep the vehicle in strong condition, you’ll be better positioned to preserve value than someone who pays near the top of the range. The model’s premium badge and broad appeal should still support demand, but resale will depend heavily on mileage, condition, and equipment.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 5/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2018 BMW X3 safe?

The 2018 X3 is still too new to have been rated by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) and the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS). However, the previous 2017 X3 scored a 5-star NHTSA rating and top scores in all IIHS crash and crash-prevention tests, with only a Marginal for headlight performance.

It earns an 8/10 safety score from our experts.

BMW offers driver assists like forward-collision alert, auto braking with pedestrian detection, and adaptive cruise control through the Driving Assistance and Driving Assistance Plus packages. The standard Driving Assistance package adds blind-spot monitoring and lane-departure warning. BMW also includes a pre-collision system that can shut the sunroof and windows, tighten the seat belts, disable the battery, apply the brakes, and unlock the doors after a crash.

Should I buy a 2018 BMW X3 or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2018 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2018 if:

• 35.3% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 69.3% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 5.18% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 5/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• The 2018 model year stands out because it introduced the third-generation redesign, making this X3 feel entirely new.

The bottom line: If you want the cleanest entry into the redesigned third-generation X3, the 2018 is the right place to start. If you’re mainly shopping on price, you can still find value here, but you should compare condition and equipment closely because accident history and option-package differences matter a lot in this market.
