How much does the 2018 BMW X3 cost?

Prices have softened 5.89% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.

There are 1,755 listings available, which gives you a solid pool to compare prices and equipment.

Is the 2018 BMW X3 a good car?

Yes — it earns a 5/5 user rating and a 7.67/10 expert rating. The model scores 9/10 across Form and function and Technology.

The 2018 X3 is presented as a completely overhauled third-generation model, so you’re looking at a fresh redesign rather than a carryover. The overview frames it as a premium compact crossover for buyers who want a refined take on a crowded segment, and the expert review emphasizes its conservative styling, airy cabin, strong tech, and polished everyday usability.

35.7% of listings are priced as good or great deals, which gives you some room to shop selectively.

Is the 2018 BMW X3 reliable?

Owners rate it 5/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

The overview points to a premium SUV that balances practicality with a more upscale feel, while the expert review highlights a quiet interior, cushy ride, and smart engineering touches. The 2.0-liter turbocharged inline-four is described as strong, smooth, and free of the usual small-engine vibrations, and the 8-speed automatic is praised for seamless shifting.

BMW also includes three years or 36,000 miles of scheduled maintenance, including oil, brake fluid, air filters, and spark plugs. For used buyers, the main long-term ownership risk is that luxury-brand upkeep and option-heavy examples can become expensive if prior maintenance was skipped.

What should I look for when buying a used 2018 BMW X3?

At 69.6% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should run a vehicle history report before you get too far into the process, then prioritize a pre-purchase inspection so you can check for prior bodywork, uneven panel gaps, and signs of deferred maintenance. Focus on the condition of the electronics, suspension, brakes, and interior wear, since this model’s appeal depends heavily on its premium features working as intended.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The cabin comes with standard SensaTec vinyl, while leather is available, and the panoramic moonroof and large side glass help the X3 feel airy and more like a larger SUV. The highest equipment tier is needed for the bi-LED headlights and the 360-degree camera system.
• Powertrain: The 2.0-liter turbocharged inline four is rated at 248 horsepower and 258 pound-feet of torque, and the 3.0-liter turbocharged inline six in the M40i makes 355 hp and 369 lb-ft. All-wheel drive is standard, and the 8-speed automatic is described as exceptionally smooth.
• Safety package: Forward-collision alert, automatic braking with pedestrian detection, and adaptive cruise control are available only with the Driving Assistance and Driving Assistance Plus packages. The Driving Assistance package adds blind-spot monitoring and lane-departure warning, while the car does not center itself in the lane.
• Infotainment: You get the latest iDrive interface, touchscreen capability, a 360-degree camera system, gesture control, in-car Wi-Fi, wireless device charging, Apple CarPlay, and a head-up display with fast voice dictation and recognition.
• Fuel efficiency: No fuel-economy figure is stated in the provided data.

Which 2018 BMW X3 trim should I buy?

The 2018 BMW X3 is offered in 2 trim levels: xDrive30i, xDrive M40i.

Here's the short version:

• xDrive30i: This is the starting point and the best-value choice if you want the core X3 experience without stepping into the pricier performance model. It gives you the 2.0-liter turbo four, standard AWD, and the same polished cabin and tech foundation that make the X3 appealing.
• xDrive M40i: This is the more powerful, more aggressive choice, with the 3.0-liter turbo inline six, upgraded brakes, and a sport suspension. It suits you if you want the strongest performance in the lineup and are willing to pay for it.

BMW notes that driver-assistance features such as forward-collision alert, auto braking with pedestrian detection, and adaptive cruise control require the available Driving Assistance or Driving Assistance Plus packages.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2018 BMW X3?

This is a moderate market for selective buyers, so you can shop carefully and still find worthwhile listings.

• Deal availability: 35.7% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 1,755 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 5.89% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 69.6% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $17,373, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2018 BMW X3's resale value?

The current average of $17,791 sits slightly below last year's $18,906.

That price movement suggests the market has already adjusted downward, which can help you buy at a more favorable entry point today. If you plan to sell later, the current softness means your future resale will depend heavily on mileage, condition, and equipment. Well-kept examples with desirable options should hold up better than neglected ones, especially in a premium segment where buyers expect strong presentation.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 5/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2018 BMW X3 safe?

The 2018 X3 is still too new to have been rated by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) and the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS).

It earns an 8/10 safety score from our experts.

BMW’s available driver-assistance setup includes forward-collision alert, automatic braking with pedestrian detection, and adaptive cruise control through the Driving Assistance and Driving Assistance Plus packages. The standard Driving Assistance package adds blind-spot monitoring and lane-departure warning. The X3 also includes a pre-collision system that can shut the sunroof and windows, tighten the seat belts, disable the battery, apply the brakes, and unlock the doors after a crash.

A key caveat is that the car does not center itself in the lane, so it lacks the more advanced lane-centering behavior found in some rivals.

Should I buy a 2018 BMW X3 or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2018 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2018 if:

• 35.7% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 69.6% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 5.89% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 5/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• The 2018 X3 is notable for being a complete overhaul, making this third-generation version entirely new even if its shape looks familiar.

The bottom line: If you want the freshest version of this generation and you value the 2018 model’s redesigned cabin, strong tech, and premium feel, this is the year to target. If you’re mainly shopping on price, you can also compare nearby model years, but the 2018 stands out as the cleaner choice for buyers who want the new-generation X3 experience without moving up to a newer, pricier example.
