How much does the 2018 BMW X3 cost?

Prices have softened 4.68% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.

There are 1,804 listings available, which gives you a solid pool to compare prices and equipment.

Is the 2018 BMW X3 a good car?

Yes — it earns a 5/5 user rating and a 7.67/10 expert rating. The model scores 9/10 across Form and function and Technology.

The 2018 X3’s appeal comes from being a completely redesigned third-generation compact BMW crossover, so you get the practicality of an SUV with the brand’s familiar character and a fresh update. It is especially relevant if you want a luxury compact crossover that feels distinctive without straying far from BMW’s core identity.

The market also shows 36.1% of listings as good or great deals, which suggests there are worthwhile opportunities if you shop carefully.

Is the 2018 BMW X3 reliable?

Owners rate it 5/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

The X3’s reliability story is helped by its thorough redesign and by BMW’s emphasis on durable, everyday usability in the cabin and controls. The 2.0-liter turbocharged inline-four is described as smooth, strong, and free of the vibration you might expect from a small engine, while the 8-speed automatic is called essentially flawless. BMW also includes three years or 36,000 miles of scheduled maintenance, which helps reduce early ownership friction.

For used buyers, the main long-term risk is that premium technology and options can raise repair exposure once the included maintenance period ends.

What should I look for when buying a used 2018 BMW X3?

At 69.2% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should start with a vehicle history report and then prioritize a close inspection of body panels, paint consistency, and any signs of prior repair. Because this model can be option-heavy, it also makes sense to confirm that the equipment you want is actually present and functioning as expected.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The cabin is described as conservative and tasteful, with standard SensaTec vinyl and a panoramic moonroof and large side glass that make the X3 feel airy. Higher equipment levels add more upscale tech and lighting, so base-trim shoppers should pay close attention to which comfort and convenience features are missing.
• Powertrain: The standard 2.0-liter turbocharged inline four is rated at 248 horsepower and 258 pound-feet of torque, and BMW’s 8-speed automatic is described as exceptionally smooth. All-wheel drive is standard, and the M40i brings a 3.0-liter turbocharged inline six with 355 hp and 369 lb-ft of torque.
• Safety package: Forward-collision alert, auto braking with pedestrian detection, and adaptive cruise control are only available with two option packages. A separate package adds blind-spot monitoring and lane-departure warning, so you should verify exactly which driver-assistance features are installed.
• Infotainment: The X3 includes the latest iDrive interface, touchscreen capability, a 360-degree camera system, in-car Wi-Fi, wireless device charging, Apple CarPlay, and a head-up display with fast voice recognition and navigation response. Some features are tied to higher equipment levels, so confirm the exact setup before you buy.
• Fuel efficiency: No fuel-economy figure is stated in the available data.

Which 2018 BMW X3 trim should I buy?

The 2018 BMW X3 is offered in 2 trim levels: xDrive30i and xDrive M40i.

Here's the short version:

• xDrive30i: This is the trim most buyers should start with because it delivers the core X3 experience: a smooth turbocharged four-cylinder, standard all-wheel drive, and the redesigned cabin and tech that define this generation. It is the better-value choice if you want the new-generation X3 without paying for the more powerful six-cylinder.
• xDrive M40i: Choose this if you want the strongest performance in the lineup, since it adds a turbocharged inline-six, upgraded brakes, a sport suspension, and a more aggressive character. It suits you best if driving performance matters more than keeping costs down.

Driver-assistance features such as forward-collision alert, auto braking with pedestrian detection, and adaptive cruise control are only available with option packages, so check the equipment list carefully.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2018 BMW X3?

This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you have room to shop but still need to move quickly on the right listing.

• Deal availability: 36.1% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 1,804 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 4.68% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 69.2% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $17,367, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2018 BMW X3's resale value?

The current average of $17,921 sits slightly below last year's $18,800.

That decline suggests the market has already adjusted downward, which can help you buy at a more favorable point in the cycle. If you plan to sell later, the current pricing trend means your future resale value will depend heavily on condition, mileage, and equipment.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 5/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2018 BMW X3 safe?

The 2018 X3 is still too new to have been rated by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) and the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS).

It earns an 8/10 safety score from our experts.

BMW offers forward-collision alert, auto braking with pedestrian detection, and adaptive cruise control through two option packages, while a separate package adds blind-spot monitoring and lane-departure warning. The X3 also includes uncommon safety features such as a pre-collision system that can close the sunroof and windows, tighten the seat belts, disable the battery, apply the brakes, and unlock the doors after a crash.

Should I buy a 2018 BMW X3 or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2018 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2018 if:

• 36.1% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 69.2% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 4.68% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 5/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• The 2018 model year is the first year of the third-generation redesign, so you get the fully updated X3 rather than a lightly revised carryover.

The bottom line: If you want the cleanest entry into this generation, the 2018 is the right year to target because it brings the full redesign and strong market availability. If you are especially price-sensitive, keep shopping listings carefully and focus on condition, accident history, and equipment, since the best-value examples will stand out quickly in this market.
