CarGurus Analysis: 2018 BMW M3

Summary
With 137 currently listed for sale and an average price of $56,737.00, 38.0% of 2018 BMW M3s for sale on CarGurus are rated as good or great deals.
Favorably reviewed: Owners rated the 2018 BMW M3 4.83 / 5 stars.

Why it stands out
The 2018 BMW M3 stands out as a high-performance sedan that still manages to be practical enough for everyday use. In the fifth-generation M3, BMW made the model a four-door sedan only, while the coupe and convertible moved under the 4 Series name and wore an M4 badge. That change gave the M3 a clearer identity as a sedan, and it also marked the first time the nameplate was unavailable as a two-door coupe.
What makes the 2018 model especially appealing is the way it blends strong performance with useful equipment. BMW’s twin-turbo 3.0-liter inline six-cylinder delivers 425 hp and 406 lb-ft of torque, and the six-speed manual remains standard for buyers who want a more involved driving experience. The 2018 BMW M3 also got an iDrive update to iDrive 6.0, which the source describes as arguably making it the most desirable fifth-generation example of the car. At the same time, the car’s electrically-assisted steering drew criticism for its road feel, so it is not quite as tactile as some enthusiasts might hope.
Even so, the 2018 BMW M3 has the core qualities that define the badge: quick acceleration, rear-wheel-drive balance, and a chassis aimed at driving enjoyment. It also offers the kind of everyday usability that helps separate it from more extreme performance cars. Buyers should still go in with realistic expectations, though, because the model is expensive to buy, maintain, and fix, and used examples deserve careful inspection for signs of abuse or neglected maintenance.

This M3 was so incredibly clean and like new and more than worth the premium price with low mileage and a perfect pre-inspection. I just drove it home from Detroit to Louisville and loved every minute of it.

Comparing with the e92 m3 competition I have: The car I own is a 2018 M3 with competition pack and executive pack and all the options. Black on red spec. This car looks more aggressive. It has more tech, it looks more nicer and modern. It doesnt feel much faster to he honest. The steering feels wider, I have to turn the steering wheel a lot more for the car to really turn. I almost clipped my front end corner of my car because how wide the the car turns as compared to my e92 m3. The e92 m3 feels more like a drivers car. Unlike the f80, the e92 m3 feels instant power and it feels like you go faster and faster. The transmission also feels more aggressive and it really smacks you to the seat on every gear change. The f80 just doesnt feel that way. I love hearing the loud screaming v8, it sounds and feels like it just loves to Rev. It wants to push its limits. The f80 doesnt feel that way, I also dont know how to feel about the fake engine noise in the interior when you rev it out. You want to hear the actual exhaust note but the car forces you to listen to this artificial BS. Its too loud as well. Its a more beautiful car, but the whole driving dynamics is not as good as the e92 m3.

How much does the 2018 BMW M3 cost?
| Metric | Value |
|---|---|
| Current Average Price | $56,702 |
| Year-Round Low | $50,904.22 |
| Year-Round High | $56,704.46 |
| Average Price a Year Ago | $54,386 |
| Change vs. Last Year | +4.26% |
Prices are up 4.26% year-over-year — a sign of continued demand for this model year.
There are 135 listings available, which gives you a modest amount of inventory to compare before you buy.
If you find a listing below $50,904.22, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
Is the 2018 BMW M3 a good car?
Yes — the 4.83/5 user rating points to strong owner satisfaction. Drivers consistently praise the power, comfort, and refined interior, and many also like the smooth ride and the range of tech features. For you, that makes this a compelling choice if you want a high-performance sedan that still works as an everyday car. The market also shows 31.9% of listings as good or great deals, which gives you some room to shop selectively.
Is the 2018 BMW M3 reliable?
Owners rate it 4.83/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.
The owner feedback also highlights a car that feels dependable in daily use, with praise for comfort, refinement, and the kind of ownership experience people can count on over time. At the same time, this is still a performance car, so used buyers should expect long-term ownership risk to rise if maintenance has been deferred or the car has been driven hard.
What should I look for when buying a used 2018 BMW M3?
At 63% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
You should start with a vehicle history report and confirm whether any reported damage was repaired properly. Then prioritize a pre-purchase inspection that focuses on signs of abuse, neglected maintenance, and wear that can be expensive to correct on a performance sedan. Pay close attention to overall condition, because the best used examples are the ones that show careful ownership rather than just low mileage.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2018 BMW M3?
This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop with some leverage if you’re patient and focused.
- Deal availability: 31.9% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 135 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices are up 4.26% year-over-year.
- Clean inventory: 63.0% of listings are accident-free.
If you find a listing below $50,904.22, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2018 BMW M3's resale value?
The current average of $56,702 sits slightly above last year's $54,386.
That upward move suggests the market is still willing to pay for this model year, which can help support resale value if you buy well and keep the car in strong condition. For you as a future seller, that means clean history, solid maintenance records, and overall presentation matter a lot when it comes time to list the car. Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.83/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Should I buy a 2018 BMW M3 or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2018 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2018 if:
- 31.9% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- At 63% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
- Price trend: Prices are up 4.26% year-over-year.
- Owners rate it 4.83/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
The bottom line: If you want the strongest blend of owner satisfaction, current market support, and everyday usability, the 2018 is the primary year to target. If you’re more price-sensitive, you can still shop nearby years, but you should be especially disciplined about condition, history, and maintenance records so you don’t trade away value for a lower sticker price.
