CarGurus Analysis: 2018 BMW 2 Series

Summary
With 42 currently listed for sale and an average price of $17,543, 38.1% of 2018 BMW 2 Series listings on CarGurus are rated as good or great deals.
Favorably reviewed: Owners rated the 2018 BMW 2 Series 5 / 5 stars.
78.6% of 2018 BMW 2 Series listings on CarGurus are accident free.
Why it stands out
The 2018 BMW 2 Series stands out as a compact, entry-level premium sports car that was aimed at drivers who wanted a fun driving experience and small proportions. In this generation, BMW positioned it as a replacement for the 1 Series Coupe and 1 Series Convertible, and the car’s appeal came from its rear-wheel-drive layout and available manual transmission, which helped separate it from rivals. It was also offered with both coupe and convertible body styles, giving buyers a choice between two open- or closed-roof ways to enjoy the same basic formula.
For 2018, the 2 Series carried over the refreshed setup introduced for 2017, including the 230i and M240i models, rear-wheel drive and all-wheel drive availability, and the updated 2.0-liter and 3.0-liter engines. Apple CarPlay had first appeared in the 2 Series at that time, and the model also offered factory packages such as the Track Handling Package, M Sport Package, Driver Assistance Package, and Cold Weather Package. Standard equipment included a 10-speaker audio system with a 6.5-inch display, dual-zone climate control, and rain-sensing wipers, while available features included adaptive suspension, variable-ratio steering, upgraded brakes, a backup camera, and parking sensors.
The tradeoffs were part of the package. The 2 Series was praised for being fun to drive and for its quality interior materials and cargo space, but it also had a cramped back seat, a firm ride, and styling that would not suit everyone. Even so, that mix of engaging dynamics, compact size, and available features made the 2018 BMW 2 Series appealing to buyers who wanted a small BMW with a more performance-focused personality than a typical luxury coupe or convertible.

Amazing daily driver. More comfortable than other cars in its class and the b58 engine pulls and pulls. Luckily the m240i is offered in manual and the auto rev matching is something I never knew I would like as much as I do (I do wish it had a dedicated button to turn it off) as the only way is to turn it off is to turn traction control off. Overall amazing car with massive potential tuning wise. 450whp is possible for under 1000 dollars.

Missing Navigation, although we did believe it was included in this model. Missing heated seats. Otherwise, car has been outstanding. We compared to the Audi A3 cabriolet and liked the BMW much better in terms of styling.

80 to 90% of the M2 which I used to own. M240i is more compliant in suspension than M2 which makes it less fatiguing on the roads we have here in NV. Has plenty of power and more torque than an M2. It will not be the track weapon the M2!is but with a few adjustments it can be close in a more compliant package. Brakes are not M2 caliber, but that can be modified. Think of it as M2 “not too lite”.

|---|---|
| Current Average Price | $20,934 |
| Year-Round Low | $19,495 |
| Year-Round High | $22,236 |
| Average Price a Year Ago | $21,654 |
| Change vs. Last Year | −3.33% |

There are 210 listings available, which suggests you have a workable amount of inventory to compare.
Is the 2018 BMW 2 Series a good car?
Yes — with a 5/5 user rating, this model year lands strongly for shoppers who want a compact, entry-level premium sports car. The overview points to a fun driving experience, rear-wheel-drive dynamics, available manual transmission, and coupe or convertible body styles, so you can prioritize engagement and size over maximum practicality. It also notes quality interior materials and usable cargo space, which helps balance the sporty character. The market still shows 38.1% of listings as good or great deals, which gives you some room to shop selectively.
Is the 2018 BMW 2 Series reliable?
Owners rate it 5/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.
The overview emphasizes a well-rounded package built around engaging driving dynamics, quality materials, and available features rather than major compromises in the core formula. For used buyers, that means your long-term ownership risk is more likely to come from condition, maintenance history, and how the car was driven than from the basic appeal of the model itself.
What should I look for when buying a used 2018 BMW 2 Series?
At 58.6% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
You should start with a vehicle history report and confirm whether any reported damage was repaired properly. Put inspection priority on body condition, panel alignment, and signs of uneven wear, then make sure the car drives as tightly as you expect from a small BMW. Because this model is meant to feel sporty, focus on how the suspension, steering, brakes, and interior condition hold up under a close test drive.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2018 BMW 2 Series?
This is a moderate market, so you can shop selectively without expecting a deep buyer’s market.
- Deal availability: 38.1% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 210 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 3.33% compared with last year.
- Clean inventory: 58.6% of listings are accident-free.
If you find a listing below $19,495, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2018 BMW 2 Series's resale value?
The current average of $20,934 sits slightly below last year's $21,654.
That softer pricing suggests the model has become a bit more accessible for buyers, which can help demand in the near term but may also limit upside for sellers who are trying to maximize return. If you own one in strong condition, the combination of a recognizable premium badge and sporty appeal should still help it stand out. Well-kept examples with clean history and desirable equipment are more likely to hold buyer interest than cars with visible wear or accident history.
Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 5/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Should I buy a 2018 BMW 2 Series or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2018 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2018 if:
- 38.1% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- At 58.6% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 3.33% compared with last year.
- Owners rate it 5/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
The bottom line: If you want the strongest mix of value, driving enjoyment, and current market availability, the 2018 is the primary year to target. If you’re especially price-sensitive, keep an eye on lower-mileage or cleaner-history examples and be ready to move quickly when one lands near the low end of the range.
