CarGurus Analysis: 2018 Audi Q5
overall

Summary
With 225 currently listed for sale near Nashville, TN and an average price of $13,559.00, 31.6% of 2018 Audi Q5s for sale on CarGurus are rated as good or great deals.
Favorably reviewed: Owners rated the 2018 Audi Q5 4.93 / 5 stars and CarGurus experts gave it a 7.83 / 10.
85.3% of 2018 Q5 models on CarGurus are accident free.
Why it stands out
The 2018 Audi Q5 stands out because it is an all-new redesign wrapped in familiar bodywork, so it can look like the same small SUV Audi has sold since the late 2000s while being a completely updated vehicle underneath. Audi’s best-selling model gets redesigned for the first time in almost a decade, and the result is a compact SUV that aims to feel more sophisticated without abandoning the Q5’s familiar shape.
What makes the 2018 Q5 appealing is its broad mix of strengths. The available information points to the latest technology from Audi’s lineup, improved performance and driving dynamics, more interior room, and a more refined overall character. It is described as an impressive all-rounder that lacks for nothing but personality, which captures its appeal well: it is meant to be polished, capable, and easy to live with rather than especially flashy.
Owner feedback reinforces that impression, with praise for the luxurious interior, smooth driving experience, strong safety features, comfortable ride, handling, spacious rear seats, and technology. The main drawbacks mentioned are more limited, centering on ergonomics such as armrest placement, along with some reports of gear-shifting and braking issues in specific cases.

The features equipped in this vehicle are great, and I do believe it is a great value. I wish that it came equipped with a touch screen infotainment system none the less I love how smooth it is to drive.

Beautiful interior. Car basically has all the features: HUD, digital cockpit display, heated and ventilated seats, huge sun roof with a mechanical cover to block out light, big wheels. The voice commands were better than my 2022 genesis and 2020 NX. Seats were better than the NX, and as good or about as good as the genesis. Very happy with this car. For the price of ~25k it really feels like a steal.

Is the 2018 Audi Q5 reliable?
Owners rate it 4.93/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.
The owner feedback points to a luxurious interior, smooth driving experience, comfortable ride, and strong safety features, which all support the sense that this is a vehicle people feel good about living with over time. The same feedback also highlights spacious rear seats and technology, suggesting the Q5 delivers the kind of everyday usefulness that tends to matter in long-term ownership.
The expert drive notes also describe the Q5 as an improved SUV with greater overall sophistication and a strong all-round character, which reinforces the impression of a well-rounded, dependable luxury crossover. For used buyers, the main ownership risk is less about the vehicle’s basic appeal and more about making sure a specific example has been maintained properly and hasn’t developed hidden issues.
What should I look for when buying a used 2018 Audi Q5?
At 69.4% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
You should start with a vehicle history report and then prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially if the listing price looks unusually attractive. Focus on condition details that matter in a luxury SUV: interior wear, electronics behavior, braking feel, and how smoothly the drivetrain operates in normal driving.
Key things to evaluate:
- Trim level: Premium, Premium Plus, and Prestige are the standard trims, and the biggest gaps are in equipment rather than basic usability. Premium Plus adds blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, and Vehicle Exit Assist, while Prestige gets the Driver Assistance Package, Audi Virtual Cockpit, the head-up display, and the latest Multi-Media Interface All-in-Touch system.
- Powertrain: The Q5 uses a turbocharged 2.0-liter 4-cylinder with 252 horsepower and 273 pound-feet of torque, paired with a 7-speed dual-clutch automated manual transmission and Quattro Ultra all-wheel drive. The setup is tuned for strong everyday response, with some turbo lag from a stop but lively performance once moving.
- Safety package: Audi Pre-Sense is standard and includes forward-collision detection and automatic emergency braking below 52 mph, plus cabin-preparation technology for an unavoidable impact. Prestige models can add the Driver Assistance Package with adaptive cruise control, lane-departure warning, lane-keeping assist, automatic high beams, and Traffic Jam Assist.
- Infotainment: Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are standard, and the latest Multi-Media Interface All-in-Touch system is standard on Prestige and optional on other versions. Audi Virtual Cockpit is standard on Prestige and optional on Premium Plus, and a 4G LTE Wi-Fi connection is available.
- Fuel efficiency: The Q5 is described as returning 25 mpg in combined driving by EPA estimate, though the test vehicle returned 21.3 mpg in real-world use.
Which 2018 Audi Q5 trim should I buy?
The 2018 Audi Q5 is offered in 3 trim levels: Premium, Premium Plus, Prestige.
Here's the short version:
- Premium: This is the entry point, but it still gives you the core Q5 experience with standard AWD, leather seats, real wood trim, a 3-zone climate control system, and Audi Pre-Sense. It makes sense if you want the redesigned Q5’s fundamentals at the lowest cost.
- Premium Plus: This is the best-value trim for many shoppers because it adds blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, and Vehicle Exit Assist, while also opening the door to upgrades like the Bang & Olufsen sound system and Audi Virtual Cockpit. If you want the strongest mix of price and equipment, this is the one to target.
- Prestige: This is the most fully equipped version, adding the Driver Assistance Package, the latest Multi-Media Interface All-in-Touch system, Audi Virtual Cockpit as standard, and a full-color head-up display. Choose this if you want the most advanced tech and driver-assistance content.
The safety-package trim note is simple: Audi’s Driver Assistance Package is exclusive to Prestige models.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2018 Audi Q5?

- Price trend: Prices have softened 9.18% compared with last year.
- Clean inventory: 69.4% of listings are accident-free.
If you find a listing below $15,863.39, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2018 Audi Q5's resale value?
The current average of $15,908 sits slightly below last year's $17,517.
That price movement suggests the market has already adjusted downward, which can help future resale buyers but may temper what you can expect to recover later. If you buy well now, you may have less downside risk than someone who bought when prices were higher. The Q5’s broad appeal and strong owner satisfaction should help support demand, but resale will still depend heavily on condition, mileage, and history.
Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.93/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Is the 2018 Audi Q5 safe?
It earns top marks for moderate overlap frontal impact and side impact protection from IIHS, but a Marginal rating for headlight performance on certain versions.
It earns a 9/10 safety score from our experts.
Audi Pre-Sense is standard on all Q5 models and includes forward-collision detection, automatic emergency braking below 52 mph, and cabin-preparation technology for an unavoidable impact. Premium Plus models also add blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, and Vehicle Exit Assist, while Prestige models can add the Driver Assistance Package with adaptive cruise control, lane-departure warning, lane-keeping assist, automatic high beams, and Traffic Jam Assist.
The main caveat is the headlight result on certain versions, so you should pay close attention to the lighting equipment on any used example you’re considering.
Should I buy a 2018 Audi Q5 or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2018 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2018 if:
- 28.9% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- At 69.4% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 9.18% compared with last year.
- Owners rate it 4.93/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
- Audi’s best-selling model gets redesigned for the first time in almost a decade, bringing more sophistication, more interior room, and the latest technology.
The bottom line: If you want the redesigned Q5 with stronger tech, better refinement, and broad everyday appeal, the 2018 is the right target. If you’re mainly shopping on price, a nearby year may be worth comparing, but the 2018’s combination of softened pricing, strong owner satisfaction, and updated equipment makes it the more compelling buy for most shoppers.
