At 69.1% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should start with a vehicle history report and confirm whether any prior damage was repaired properly. It’s also smart to pay close attention to overall condition, since luxury SUVs can hide expensive problems behind a polished presentation.

What is the 2017 Volvo XC90's resale value?

The current average of $15,510 sits slightly below last year's $17,915.

That price movement suggests the XC90 has already absorbed a meaningful amount of depreciation, which can help future sellers if the market stabilizes. If you buy well and keep the vehicle in strong condition, you may be better positioned than someone who paid closer to the upper end of the range. Demand should also benefit from the model’s strong owner satisfaction and premium reputation.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.8/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Should I buy a 2017 Volvo XC90 or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2017 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2017 if:

• 35.6% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 69.1% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 13.43% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.8/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.

Consider the 2016 if:

• At $13,936, the 2016 costs less than the current year's $15,510 average.
• It offers an all-new luxury SUV package with straightforward trim choices and strong family appeal.

The bottom line: You should lean toward the 2017 if you want the stronger current-market value story and a model year with solid owner satisfaction. If your priority is spending less upfront, the 2016 is the better secondary path, especially if you find one in excellent condition and can accept the older-year tradeoff.
